Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

Thanks to both.  Currently have a growing interest in VN's.  The ties to Zero Escape is what caught my interest in the first place.

Was going to buy two P5R dlc packs at $6 apiece, but decided just to buy a new game instead.

Shining Resonance Refrain is under $6 on MX eshop. Was worth grabbing despite owning the steam version. More likely to actually play it on handheld.

There's some whining over the Ryza 2 trailer uploaded to Koei Tecmo America and Playstation's respective YouTube accounts. They put a visual smear over the video when a female character's skirt flips up doing an attack and later position the character to cover her butt in a "Summer Outfit" DLC advertisement. It's not present in the PEGI rated trailer uploaded to Koei Tecmo Europe or any other region.

As long as nothing is covered in the actual game. But, as usual, screw Sony, I'll be getting the game on Switch like I did for the last one.

I'm legitimately shocked we're getting that game. I actually just recently played a little DW9 (after playing a ton of it when it came out) and I just couldn't get past how easy it was, so I hope this game at least fixes that. I didn't even hate the open world, just how stupid the difficulty balancing was (higher difficulties gave you more EXP, so it was somehow easier than lower difficulties). I think I just can't get into DW the way I can get into Samurai Warriors, though, since I didn't really like DW8 either, and that one's considered the best (just announce SW5 already, Koei!). With all that said, if DW9E fixes my issues with the base game, I might give it a shot.

Man, Hiro Mashima is on top of the world lately. Barely a few months after Fairy Tail releases and we've got two games announced based on Edens Zero. I've never read Edens Zero, but those trailers look pretty damn cool.

Patiently waiting for Amazon to match since since its still available for shipping. Tired of gutted game bullshit from Gamestop.

I guess I can also have BB chat match it tomorrow if it is still in stock.

I found it pretty funny Gal Gun Returns is skipping PlayStation but is being released on Xbox.

I had planned to try it last night but on PC the servers were busted and I was only getting roughly 0.30 mb/sec download to download the game so I could not finish it before I had to go to bed. Hopefully servers are good today.

 
Then don't waste your bandwidth as there is plenty. Folks in beta have been complaining about the changes to pull rates to be rather stingy. 

 
I'm going to try it but F2P games stick around me usually for a few days max and then I get tired of the grind. Some like League of Legends I played enough to unlock all the runes I needed, but I would probably not be as patient these days.

 
I am going to give it a go, looks like a game that will be fun to play whenever I am in the mood for something grindy. It's also only 10 gigs on PS4 apparently so it's something I can just leave on the hard drive even if I don't play it often.

Same. Granted I've only played a handful. Pokemon shuffle and ff record keeper are both quite fun imo. And pokemon shuffle had changed drastically till they stopped updating it around 3 years after it released. Lots of abilities got changed some for the better some for the worse. But when they added in power of 3 for eevee evolutions that was a major difference.

Record keeper is still going and just updated semi recently. The nice update was changing limit breaks to being upgradable so you can lower those 3 bar limit breaks costs and increase usage to more than once a dungeon/battle. As they are pretty useless compared to infinite usage 1 bar cost ones. They also have series summons now and those are crazy op once maxed out dealing about 200k damage plus occasional 30k damage every few minutes. But they changed the book rewards system so now you have to accept them in the menu for that instead of the daily gift menu which is tedious and clunky.

I see "Store Pickup Only" with an estimated 10/7 arrival date for my local store.

EDIT: It looks like there was only 1 copy left--after I placed my store pickup order, I checked the page again and now "none are available within 250 miles". Thanks for the heads-up.

Hard to tell if that's gonna come back in stock for a while like the PS4 ver. sitting at 39.99 or if it's going to be a quick restock and vanish again due to the hype of it's rarity / value. Those brief Amazon restocks aren't lasting long at all.

 
Still waiting on Target to ship my 13 Sentinels preorder.  Backorder is until 10/6 but I have a feeling it may be canceled after that if no stock comes in.  Amazon got a restock so I don't see why Target wouldn't.

Uggh, and my backup Bull Moose is sold out now too.  Probably should have went with them to begin with.

You could still get one from VideogameplusCA. I don't think they collecting tax either. If you are concerned about whether its included artbook, they confirmed on Twitter the copies in their latest shipment do included one.

Ha I see I wasn't the only one who knows of videogamesplusca. Yeah And with conversion rates its usually cheaper to order through them too. The only issue is shipping can take a while and tracking disappears after it enters the us.

Been playing Genshin Impact. The gacha is for characters/weapons (I believe you can craft weapons). Besides the whole gacha part, the game is actually really fun and I think I will put a good bit of time in this game assuming the end grind is not horrible.

Part of it is I been wanting a true JRPG Zelda for quite some time and this is scratching that niche. I hope someone makes a game almost like this but more fleshed out and $60 instead of microtransactions.

The last three times I've ordered via VGPlus (all in the past six months) I've just gotten a USPS tracking number that's worked through delivery.

Worth noting that their site is suspected to have security issues, though. As long as you pay via PayPal you'll be fine - just don't enter your credit card info on their site.

I haven't used them since I want to say cyber sleuth came out on the vita either that or sword art online hollow fragment and they were the only option to get a physical copy since it wasn't getting a retail physical release in na in cybersleuths case. I always use paypal when the option is there. Especially since discover gets an extra 5% on that.

My most wanted characters are Rex/Pyra, Elma from Xenoblade X, Adol Christin, Estelle Bright, Saber (with a Nero skin because why not), ANY Zelda character (BoTW Impa may be likely, due to her being featured in the new Hyrule Warriors), Sophitia or Mitsurugi, a Monster Hunter (for my husband, since he loves that series) Lloyd or Yuri from Tales, Spyro, Noctis (because I'm one of those evil FFXV fans), and Asuka from Senran Kagura (which will NEVER happen lol).

So, it's probably gonna be Crash :???:
