Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

Based on similar situations of the very recent past, for people upset it seems like the way to send a message to Nintendo is to immediately preorder at least one copy of the inevitable collectors edition and then complain about how upset you are on forums.

Things will change if enough people complain on CAG.

Would anyone happen to know the exact date that DoA Xtreme 3 is coming out? The Asia version from Playasia specifically. It's still listed as March 2016, and I heard it was delayed a couple of months ago, but I haven't heard anything concrete yet. Thanks!

So Valkyria Chronicles Remastered is not GS and Amazon exclusive like people thought? I always wondered where everyone got that idea since it was never actually said and just assumed (that I could find at least).

Rhythm Heaven yay! Also Monster Hunter, though I really don't play or like those games (I still need to play more MH4U). Also good that Starfox and that FEx WiiU game has a release date though I wont likely have a WiiU for a while unless the next system is backwards compatible.

Well that didn't take long. At least they saved me the trouble on whether to decide I was going to preorder it. I'm no longer even going to even consider getting a game on the principal with any petty censorship edits to satisfy any potential demands of a almost nonexistent minority, who may or may not complain about it, doesn't actually care about the product, who wouldn't buy it in the first place and will just find something else to outcry on about.

I have better things to do with my money.

I think the exclusive part was the steelbook portion of it, and currently, the BB listing does not appear to include a steelbook like Amazon and GS has listed.

Otherwise, I'd just get it at BB to get me that much closer to elite. T___T

If you look at the images, it shows the steelbook.

The biggest question is. Are they coming to retail?

Thank god SEGA bought Atlus Japan.

This is a scary glimpse into a possible future/parallel universe of what could have happened to all future Megaten and other Atlus Japan games if Nintendo had bought them from Index.

I kinda see who censorship is annoying but if it doesnt have any affect on gameplay it shouldnt really matter.
But it does have an impact on enjoyment. Everyone enjoys a game differently. Some people care more about the music, others about FPS, others the art style, and so forth.

It's like eating food, sometimes you want something healthy, and other times, you want junk food like fries. And some might like their fries without salt/ketchup, others might want it with.

Gamestop has its uses, even if it's just to bring over DLC that would otherwise be locked to Japanese retailers.

All in all, I'd say it passes. Definitely better than Star Ocean 4 VO.

Also went ahead and updated the Wiki with the new Nintendo games recently announced. Not that there's store links yet.

If these all come over here and aren't too expensive, I'm seriously going to consider moving from my 3DS XL to a N3DS.

I think this point is missed far more often by the anti-censorshp crowd than it is the indifferent ones; "How can you still buy this game? They put her in a BRA??!!"

And to be clear I'm not referring to you (or anyone on this site) specifically, just a general observation.
I honestly have not heard most of the anti-censorship crowd saying anything remotely close to that.

The general line of thought is "Some of us want to enjoy the game as close to the original source as possible and rather be given the option to do so, instead of simply having contents removed/altered." The whole rally with boycotting is simply the act of voting with wallet so companies would stop censoring and removing contents. Not saying that more options is bad.

No one is upset when XSeed added a male strip portrait gallery to Akiba's Trip, instead of removing the female only strip portrait gallery found in the original version.

The line of thinking regarding "How can anyone enjoy x game if x is not available" usually is the mentality to those who favor certain dubbing.

I am....cautiously optimistic about this game. I've played all of the Star Ocean Games and love that they all take place in the same universe, but what I really love about the Star Ocean Games is the music. Star Ocean: Till the End of Time probably has my favorite opening theme of all time. It gives me chills every time I hear it.

I have seen some people with the "how can you enjoy that garbage" mentality but you're gonna get that with any group. Personally, I don't hold it against anyone that's enjoying the "localized" Fire Emblem Fates, I'm just holding off myself for the restoration patches. Like I just can't get into it knowing there's times when an entire scene's dialog has been changed to "...","..." etc.

As for SMTxFE and the idea isn't so much "how can you enjoy the game without her cleavage" but rather "well, if that's getting covered what else are they doing".

I kinda see who censorship is annoying but if it doesnt have any affect on gameplay it shouldnt really matter.
But it is having a affect on gameplay. Fire Emblem Fates release and soon to be release Bravely the Second both have gameplay elements removed under the same idiotic guise logic.

Look with this particular instance with SMTxFE, I honestly could not give a care about the content itself that was change. It makes no difference to me personally one way or another. My problem is with the principle that is being used to make these changes. The fact that it is being thrown around so loosely, is on the precipice to become totally out of control and is only going to get worse as time goes on. That is something I do not want to support.

Because next thing you know Mario is no longer a stereotypical italian plumber out to save the mushroom kingdom. He's a non-ethnic door to door insurance salesman from Ohio named Joe.

I'd rather support a good game than make a stand against censorship. Publishers are gonna do what they are gonna do, Devs need to stay in business. New IPs need more support than usual as well.

I like atlus, they make good games, i will preorder Tokyo Mirage Sessions.

Yeah, I think it's silly to blame people for buying the game and "complaining". Like I want to play the game and support the creators but I want all the original content. I'm even willing to bend on cosmetic edits or when images are removed like Monster Monpiece and let them pass without issue but decimating dialog or removing gameplay elements is more serious.
