Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

I'm sure I'll snag this game one of these days much like I did with Sorcery Saga whenever it dips down into the $20 and under range. I want to mostly buy it to support Vita games, but it can wait for now.
I still have curry saga in the backlog but proud I scored it for 7$.

I never found zombies scary, even before we were desensitized to them. They're slow, literally braindead, and can barely stand. You can easily outrun them in any of the older games. The biggest threat in the old style games was getting used to the controls if you hadn't played them before. I love the Resident Evil franchise and I see no reason to go back to that style. 4 was a great evolution in gameplay, 5 was sort of more of the same of 4, and 6 was a logical gameplay evolution to 4/5 and fixed all the co-op issues of 5. Not to mention each campaign was about as long as the one campaign in 5. RE6 was a lot of game for your money.

I enjoy the older style for what it is, but the gameplay is incredibly dated and going back to it would be a terrible thing.
I was saying how those games were by far scarier than current RE games & no they shouldn't purposely do tank controls.
To me an ideal current gen version would be like Sega's Alien isolation, just replace the alien with the nemesis, replace the android guys with randomly roaming zombies & obvious the setting in Racoon City.
Maybe throw in a casual mode difficulty for the casuals where you play as chris have all unlocked guns, infinite ammo, fps aim & can punch the nemesis. Now they can't complain.

I'm really glad Grand Kingdom had a beta, because I didn't expect it to be so boring. Now I have to decide whether keeping the double-discount CE preorder is worth it.

It was a tad repetitive. Your squad other than the cutscenes was very generic as well, and you have gung ho jones on your squad and being rude to the lady guide or whatever her official title was, since I forgot it. I thought it played alright but seemed to be missing something that really made it better than just average.

Has anyone gotten their mega tagmension yet? ...Mine hasn't even shipped.
Bestbuy.ca got me my regular edition today, with free shipping. They're so much better than Amazon.

No idea on the LE though. AFAIK it hasn't even shipped yet...

Edit: Spoke too soon. Iffy sent me spam 3 minutes after my post saying stuff was going out, and then emailed me a tracking number half an hour later too.

Had an email earlier from Iffystore saying not all orders could be shipped today, so they're moving some back the earliest they can tomorrow. Again, I really appreciate the nice gestures from this company and the way they keep us up to date. They seem really polite and well-mannered in their emails, and are honest about stuff, which I like.

Anyway, hope you game with you guys soon! I call Noire!

Edit: And mine just shipped, so I guess they are working overtime.

why does the launch edition of etrian odyssey 2 say there's a staff book when there's no staff book? It's only the game and the music cd.

Perhaps it was a massive production error and they forgot to give everybody staff books, and nobody noticed because we all put the sealed game in our backlog :whistle2:

Mine came with one.

Edit: It's in the game case, not the box.

My Blanc+ridiculous name shipped. It is coming from Grand Prarie, TX as opposed to Cali like all the other Iffy LEs. Looks like they swapped to the same company NISA uses as that is where their's ship from.

Phoenix Wright as digital-only on a Nintendo system? Does Nintendo even have good digital sale numbers for anything beyond $10? This decision is rather perplexing.

Why does it surprise anyone? Dual Destinies was also digital only. It's Capcom's choice and obviously they feel the series is too niche for them so digital only it is.

Style Savvy 3....that is a good localization announcement. The previous 3DS one was really good actually. One of my 3DS surprises.

I skipped over Dual Destinies (Well, the last few Phoenix games) and didn't realize there was a digital-only Phoenix game already, which would be why. I just don't see Nintendo as a plausible digital-only platform for higher priced titles. Though I guess if that one sold well enough, then I suppose it makes sense.

True it's the same over on Sony's platform as well though. I bet a lot of people including myself haven't bought Ray Gigant cause it's digital only and higher priced and Monster Monpiece may have not sold as well because it was high priced digital only too. People will buy AAA games with high digital prices, but doesn't seem as well for more niche titles IMHO.

$29 Phoenix Wright... nice.   I can deal with it being digital since it wont be a full $40.

And I got the email about the Blanc LE being slightly delayed. Sucks since I definitely thought that email was going to be my shipping notice... -_-

In terms of Nintendo digital titles, I see no issue with them. Sure the account system is still kinda messed up, but I prefer to have games on my very affordable 32 GB SD card and not have to worry about it filling up every time I want to get something from the shop. (Damn Vita memory cards lol). Plus, there's been a lot of good digital sales recently like for SMT IV and the other ones. I think the only full priced digital 3DS games that I've gotten are Senran Kagura, Attack on Titan, Phoenix Wright Dual Destinies, Phoenix Wright Trilogy and a couple others I can't remember right now.

I was all against digital releases for a long time being the collector that I am, but in some cases I'm fine with digital if its the only release I'll get. I'm playing through Ray Gigant now and its quite enjoyable. Plus, all of the PSN free games, and exclusive releases; I haven't touched Amnesia Memories yet. As well as all of the old PS1/PSP releases for Vita.

I will shell out the extra cash for a physical release in the event its released in the UK, or China has a release with Subs.

Still buying Ace Attorney 6 day 1 but I actually had my hopes up that Capcom would deliver a physical release this time around =/

At least they actually dub their digital games unlike some people...
