Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

There's a Vita emulator? You can play it on a hacked Vita, which is incredibly easy to hack.
Sorry if I'm being obtuse. I was mainly asking if the Moero Crystal fan translation project has a patch. IA/VT apparently does (though I haven't tried it myself -- language isn't much of a barrier there!)

There's a handful of games with patches actually. Moero actually seems to be still just in the works and I don't see any updates in teh past two months but I don't see anything about it being cancelled either. So as far as I can tell just wait and hope.

Has anyone else stopped getting emails from Square Enix? I'm used to getting several emails from them each month, but my last one is dated 11/30 and I haven't gotten any new ones since then.
I failed to get New Year Sara after 655 stones. Salt is real.
Just checked my inbox, and last one I got was on the 12/29 and before that the 22nd, then quite a few from the week before that

I'm not really seeing any new free PSN junk this week. The only thing would be the January PS+ Games which changed today. I do know the Tales of Berseria demo will arrive on both PSN and Steam next week (January 10th).

For you few Overwatch players, [customspoiler='Oasis']
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhVZ-QIu4jk[/customspoiler] is now live. Of course the Christmas event is now over as well or rather should be shortly (For some reason it's still going). Managed to get all the skins, but had to buy Xenyatta, Roadhog & Reaper. Glad I managed to get Zarya's legendary emote too.

Thanks to everyone that checked out my Twitch Stream recently, I know Midori, Texan, Gershomcz, and etc. popped in. I wanted to create a twitch group/team for the niche thread since the CAG one is just CheapyD and his friends, but it seems you have to be partnered to do so. If anyone else streams as well, I would be more than happy to check it out, just remember to link it on your CAG account.

I know Vic_x51 streams, and Neomonk I think used to stream some Future Tone, so check them out as well. Thanks again guys!

I was one of the few to check in, should thank CAG for putting your stream on the Front Page. :D/

I followed your channel and ill follow anyone else's from this thread if i ever see an active link for your streams. (on your profile or on the front page).

Now go raise your stamina stat (in bloodborne), it should help some in those late game dungeons :whistle2:$ if you're going for the plat.

Dang, missed it :wall:

& I haven't streamed in awhile, Maybe I should start that back up :whistle2:

Haha I was thinking the same thing when the event ended... but I just resubbed to FF 14 so I think I just doomed my backlog.
This is the reason for my eternal backlog lol. I bounce back and forth between XIV and Overwatch, usually combined with another long ass RPG (Currently Pokemon and XV)

I'm still trying to get the true ending of Criminal Girls 2. I know it will take a few hours but just thinking of that torture of a battle I have to do like 5-6 more times keeps me from trying for that platinum/ending. I think I will do it someday......why did that game have to disappoint me so much.

Those multi-ending games where its the same fight 8 different times is annoying. It's a lot like the affection scenes in Trails of Cold Steel, though, they're not as tedious as the Criminal Girls' ones.

I mainly stream LoL and currently FFXV. A group would be awesome though.

You're pretty much through the hard parts of the chalice dungeons. The cursed dog was the biggest pain in the ass. Some of the dungeons before the queen can get annoying, but nothing compared to that boss fight.

I'll try and stream more often. Maybe when Future Tone drops. I usually only stream stuff like Freedom Wars, Dreamcast, Gamecube, and my PSP/PS1 stuff. Figure might as well put stuff out there that people can't easily find.

I may stream when I figure out how to do it.

Finally got around to trying HoTS (Mostly to get my pro Genju skin). Safe to say I have realized I hate MOBAs.

Not sure if it was because my monitor was too big (27 inch mac, and I was constantly losing the location of my cursor and moving and casting in the wrong directions). Or if I just hate point and click mechanics in general.

Heh I tried it too for the same reason. I kept losing my cursor too, but then I found an option to make it much bigger. That helped loads.

I love to stream to show my friends how to do stuff in the games.

I did one with Dragon Quest Builders showing my friends how to build certain things and how to kill dragons with just bombs.

Last thing I streamed was Paragon.

I only stream when someone asks me to stream more or less. Since I don't really advertise it, I obviously rarely ever do it. Most of my sessions would consist of me walking away while the game is still running anyways and nobody wants to stare at a static screen.

While we're on the topic of streaming, GamesDoneQuick (Speedrunning for charity) is doing their Winter version of streams for a week. It starts Sunday at 11:30AM Eastern Time and ends very early the following Sunday morning. Here's the schedule, which has plenty of old and new games, many of which are Japanese. Here's a link to the twitch channel as well. It's more or less PG/PG-13 due to the sponsors the last few years, but there are still some worthwhile segments here and there. Unfortunately [customspoiler='Tetris the Grandmaster']
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPQFeMRXwmg[/customspoiler] segment is gone, but last GDQ there was a [customspoiler='one-handed run of Momodora']
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXtUwIW7cL8[/customspoiler] on the highest difficulty which was rather interesting to watch.

At the very least, it makes great fodder for a second monitor if you have one and aren't actively using it at the time.

I saw that Miki from Idolm@ster is getting a figma, this should make someone around here very happy  :whistle2:

There's also a new IA figure coming soon, which makes ME very happy  :applause:

But... Do they even have the Harvest Moon license that's celebrating the 20th anniversary?
The license is all that Natsume has. They never developed the Harvest Moon games, only the recent spinoffs because they wanted to keep making money off the name.

Marvelous decided a couple years ago to publish the real 'Harvest Moon' games here in the US through XSeed as 'Story of Seasons'.

These free themes are amazing, especially the 2nd one with Kula undressing. They give like 3 free every week, and there's been like a good 10 or so available already. They are probably better than themes you have to pay for, although I wonder if this marketing strategy actually works...

Also, Htol#niq for Vita is an amazon lightning deal at 7:16 tonight, which also happens to be a very significant number for me.

This is off topic, but I figured this was a good place to ask. Does anyone know how to track a shipment from Play-Asia? I have a tracking number, but I don't know where to use it.

if the tracking # they gave you has a SG last, then use the Singapore post site.

Cool, thanks. Does "arrived at destination post" basically just mean it's in the country now?
Usually when it reaches the US, it will have something in regards to customs, and "clearing" customs, at some point. If the first message you got was arrive at destination post, more than likely it is at customs.

Every time I get an international package, it can be slightly different in the messages you may receive(and the wording), but the process is normally the same. Arrive in US at customs, clear customs, and then en route to post office for delivery.

Huh, the Chinese versions of Trails to Zero and Trails to Azure are on Steam Greenlight. This may bode well for an English translation of them after Trails in the Sky the 3rd releases. Obviously it doesn't mean it will, but there has definitely been a surge of Chinese games releasing on Steam as of late. Oh and it sounds like the fan translation of Trails to Zero will be for both the PSP and PC versions.

EDIT: Also, it seems Ys VII and Ys: Memories of Celceta Chinese versions are also up on Greenlight by Falcom's Chinese publisher, Joyoland. Time to start praying to the gods of gaming for English PC ports.

That's fantastic news. I hope the surge in interest for the Cold Steel, and SC/3rd have caught Falcom/XSEED's attention. I know the XSEED messageboard for the Trails game stays pretty active and with a lot of posts from different people. I need to finally finish FC, and move onto SC...if FFXV will allow me to.

That would be wonderful. Playing those two games on PSP/Vita after replaying the rest on Steam felt like a huge step backwards.
