Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

Miraculously, this was still available. Grabbed it.

I've, uh, never been in a closed beta test before. Are there some sort of actual responsibilities beyond reporting weird bugs or whatever? The legalese in the agreement is pretty thick for my tastes.
 
Outside of the new Uncharted game, there isn't much new this week. Although I will recommend checking out Mages of Mystralia to see if it would catch your interest. No demo for it unfortunately.

Amazon warehouse deals had DQ VIII for the 3DS for $24 shipped so I decided to bite. I figured might as well grab it now before I forget about it again. I been wanting to play that for years now anyway (even though it's going to be backlog).

Agreed. minus the social links which were an improvement over most of mc's. I flat out refused to do moons in p3 and immediately reset. I like that pic of a joke ending for the mc doing nothing for all the social links. Minus tower which I think he should have gotten but whatever.

Really? P3 actually had my favorite social links, the top 2 being the Sick kid (Sun), and the Old couple (Hierophant). I couldn't remember any memorable ones from P4. Maybe I'd give a nod to the dog. And P5 had some pretty good ones, again it's probably since I played it most recently, but I loved the Doctor, Maid, and Gamer King. (Yeah I know... the Gamer King is a dweeb but he's got a really touching backstory, and one of his lines at the end of the game gave me chills.)

Here is a neat little chart I found to help you remember/compare the social links: (I didn't count any that were teammates/characters substantial to the main story)

I only liked Rise and the Nurse in Persona 4. And I guess Yukiko. And Margaret. The Fox Guardian was the homie.

Looks like 5 clear wins for P4, 7 clear wins for P3, and the rest are pretty even or muddled up by having one of P3MCs or FemC's links better than the other. Or by Adachi, because Adachi just likes muddling things.

Some of these are pretty close, though—for instance, Ken and Nanako are nearly neck and neck, Ken just edges out Nanako for having more character development. And then, of course, some of them are ridiculously far: e.g. Yukiko beating Fuuka's low frequency waist slimmer pad off.

*I've never actually done Ayane's S.Link.

When I clicked the link, I didn't think it was a legit reveal of FFXV on PC because of the decent number of dislikes. Then as I was reading through the comments, it became obvious that the dislikes came from people who didn't like that FFXV wouldn't be a console exclusive anymore.

Square should sell the nude mods as DLC. It might be the only way they'll make their budget back for FFXV.

4 was better fight me.

Also the only reason 5 let you romance the old hags was because for the target persona audience, the older women are just women now.

I also liked P4 more than P5, but calling some characters old hags is going overboard....

I would like P6 to take place in a University setting. Yeah, still school I know but it would remove the limitations that High School always brought. Just something I think that would be interesting.

 
If you don't pay attention to the LRG thread, it looks like they announced two releases this Friday that are both RPGs. Wish they would've done it sooner so I could've included it in my weekly release list.
