Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

I haven't played enough P5 as yet to compare the casts, but P4 had a significantly better main cast and set of social links than did P3, when taken as a whole. There are a few specific exceptions, but overall the cast of P4 was just more likeable, which I'd say is the main reason P4 has a few more spin-offs than P3, despite P3 being a better game.
p3p edges out p4 slink wise. Larger cast and most of p4 s links derailed not like some of 3's didn't crash and burn like junpeis. But what little they did do of junpeis background made me appreciate him more since he has a bad home life.

Shinjis link was awesome and mitsurus is significantly improved with femc.

Feels good to have gotten the Hatsune Miku Future Tone DX game for $25
Are there English subs / menus?

Are there English subs / menus?
nope. But as with most rhythm games, easy to navigate with a quick menu translation guide. Plus too much happening on the screen for me to actually read the lyrics.

But biggest win is getting the entire thing for 25 on disc.

The girls in P5 were really awesome as a group though. That's why P4 feels so tired and played out. Those characters were lacking compared to both P3 and P5; specifically the girls, when Rise and Naoto are the most attractive ones. Kanji and those two were cool but the rest of the cast was pretty lackluster and often annoying. The girls in P5 were top notch by comparison. Makoto and Futaba rule and Haru was pretty cute too. Ann wasn't bad either for a distant fourth. Honestly I love Futaba's style and fashion. Ryuji was also the best partner when compared to annoying Yosuke and Junpei. They always set you up with that annoying hornball sidekick that the girls loathe, and start you from the very bottom of the social caste.

These are just my opinions.
I don't understand how those are just your opinions when everything you just said were literally facts. It's like you ripped that paragraph right out of my head. I couldn't agree more, since the P4 cast always irked me a little as being pretentious. The P5 teammates were definitely fantastic companions, and the synergy and dialogue were done really well. Up to the point where I wished it wasn't just the Protag and his harem, but like Ann and Ryuji could be a couple. And yeah, out of the 3 lame sidekicks, Ryuji imo was the most fleshed out and the one I could sympathize with the most.

But P3 has Aigis so that reigns supreme.

Hes got brave blade and vorple blade right?
Speaking more about his Persona's Ice Moves.

I eventually dropped him since one of my Persona's already had Vorpal/Brave. Especially when I finally got Yoshitsune. In the end, team comp became Ann, Ryuji, and Makoto/Haru.

I never used Morgana, just using him as a spare healing bank. LOL

Got my P3/P4/P5 Famitsu DX Crystal triple pack today. It's very nice =D I didn't notice that the posters were going to be lenticular 3D and they look really good. It was a nice surprise :D

With the Xenoblade 2 OST yesterday and the Zelda BotW OST a few weeks ago, I've been seeing a lot of (probably too much of) the DHL guy lol

To be fair they fixed chie in golden so she can get better spells but yeah original chie was hot garbage.

I still used kanji over her though because of higher damage when an enemy is knocked over. But I did put them both in the party occasionally for bosses. yosuke yukiko yu naoto was otherwise my regular mob party in both version.

Bullet Girls Phantasia Limited edition preorder is up at Play-asia for $110 for PS4 or Vita.

I still wanna see some gameplay and how it performs on vita before I commit, but I'm probably gonna get the LE since I like Silvia's design and the mousepad looks nice.

Good deal. I had to have the limited edition of this though. Picked up the import with the blurays and preorder bonus earlier this year ... Love it!

I was at Megacon Orlando this weekend and took some photos here and there if anyone wants to take a look.

EDIT: removed link, IG account deactivated.

For anyone that cares my long coming Magical Marriage Lunatics review is likely coming this week. I only have about 2 routes to go. Pretty good sized game, that I took a break from playing, but am just about done.

Yeah, sure, I could use another 3DS system. I mean, 12 is clearly not enough... At least I didn't have a New 2DS XL yet. That makes it 'slightly' less absurd.

LOL, I'm eyeballing that unit myself. The 2DS XL is really well made, as it offers good size screens, with a much lighter weight and better ergonomics than the standard XL models. I've been wanting to get one for the bigger screens, but haven't liked the themes of the others offered. This is for sure the best one so far, for me at least, so I might place a preorder, but I really don't need the game included, so I may just grab the standard white unit, as those are $130 at Walmart right now.

Mega Man 11 looks cool, I'm stoked.   The one thing I'm struggling with is whether to buy these games like the new X Legacy Collection, and the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection on either Nintendo or Playstation.  But I'm leaning towards the latter.

X collection I will definitely do on PS since half of it is digital on Switch. Not decided on Street Fighter.

Will hold off on buying Megaman X Collection. The games usually go on clearance by the end of the year around Black Friday and I"m not in a big rush to play it.

Megaman 11 Amiibo Edition says "Only at Gamestop", does this mean the amiibo is exclusive to GS? Or does it mean this kind of bundle(stickers and all) is what is exclusive? I just care about the game and amiibo and not the stickers
yes this edition and the amiibo are both gamestop exclusives

Got my copy of Fallen Legion in the mail today. Is there one story I should play before the other?

I realize it's the same story from two different sides, but there's usually one that is better/more enjoyable to play first.

I went with SF Anniversary Collection on Switch (it is supposed to contain an extra exclusive play mode) and will get MegaMan X Legacy Collection on PS4 since it is two discs and the Switch version is half digital (which kind of defeats the purpose of a physical release).
