Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

You have good taste yukiko wise^  Too bad her s link went to shit as I was really rooting for her to strike it out on her own and become independent instead of choosing to live in a bird cage.

I felt horrible when I did a harem route in Persona 4 Golden.

For some reason I thought thought there would be a funny scene were all the girls beat up Yu. Instead one after another you see them heartbroken. I was thinking "Oh God. Make it stop. I'm so sorry.".

Did you do the Harem Route for Persona 5?

 
You should, it's hilarious instead of heartbreaking.... even more so if you choose Ryuji.

Besides, in some of the friendship routes, they end up kinda hating you anyway (Futaba comes to mind).

Why can’t Persona have friendship routes with girls where they don’t fall in love with the main character and he has to turn then down? It’s super awkward. Why can’t they just be friends with no romantic feelings on either side?
 
The main protagonist doesn't really "turn them down". The female confidants/social links leave an opening for a romantic route, and you can give the oblivious/neutral/friendly answer or response to their opening and that's it for any romance. It's never "I like you, do you like me? - No thanks"

P5 has friendship routes. You get to choose between romance and friendship for each female confidant somewhere around rank 7-8. I went the harem romance route on my first playthrough (except Tae, somehow I messed up a dialogue choice with her and didn’t get romance as an option with her) and romanced only Tae on my second playthrough, going the friendship route with all the other girls, but I maxed out all of the confidants on both playthroughs.

Umm, the Ann romance/friendship "opening" in P5 was really a cringe-dumping moment probably the worst one. Makoto's had a bit of that feel too. The rest of them were less "dump-y".

In P4G, I thought Naoto's friend/romance moment was subtle enough to not feel like a love confession.

For Ann, after Shio gets well she tells you "I guess I'm alone again", and you could've told her "You have the others" (stay friends) or "You have me" (romance). That's not really a cringe-dumping imho. Honestly I didn't even see that as a confession at all... the game just made it that way. You're either reminding her that she has an entire group of new friends to lean on including yourself, or just yourself. Not really a dumping at all when you think about it.

For Makoto, you just tell her that she will find someone someday. Not really a dumping either, just encouraging her in the vein that she will find someone compatible.

Something I wish they did was let you ship couples together. Like Ryuji x Ann and Akihiko x Mitsuru would be perfect storylines, and wouldn't just have to be Protag x Everyone. This could even be applied to games like Dragon Age and Mass Effect.

I always thought RPGs would take after Star Ocean: The Second Story and do this. I remember reading the game had over 80 endings, but they were just individual epilogue scenes which paired off characters if they had enough relationship points after you'd beaten the game. A very nice idea that could work pretty great these days.

Decided to pick up Sakura Sakura on PC. I haven't finished an ending but am close to finishing one. I am likely not playing anymore though as this game is a huge turn off for me. The main protagonist is pretty spineless and gets walked over by just about everyone. Also pretty much everyone is annoying as heck and I know it's kind of like a romantic comedy the VN, but it's so stupid sometimes. I generally don't drop VNs that are of more decent quality, but the storytelling and characters are just dumb. I'm tired of it already.

Speaking of waifus, I hope I get Mercy's new Christmas skin as easily as I got Pharah's Halloween skin. I got Pharah's in my eighth loot box for that event. Crap, I hope the event pity timer for legendaries doesn't carry over between events.

Nothing but whites and blues in my free loot box and three arcade loot boxes. Yeti Hunter makes getting the weekly loot boxes pretty easy.

Senran Kagura Peach Ball is out in Japan now. 10% launch discount on both standard and special edition digital.

A physical copy of Senran Kagura Reflexions and Peach Beach Splash were released as a limited edition. The games contain only Japanese text.

 
Two days behind but the Overwatch Winterland started December 11th and continues until January 2nd. Just a heads up to check the game on December 25th as they gave out 5 Loot Boxes the past 2 years so if history repeats itself we'll be getting it again this year (no guarantee tho).

Reflexions on the eShop is a separate application from Refle. Also Xseed needs something to sell Fall 2019 when they finish translating Peach Ball.

The additional massage options for the Refle premium version are 1000 yen for the download copy.

It's baffling to me that the Tokyo Xanadu EX+ LE dropped from $150 to $50 and the standard is still at $40. It was on sale at Gamefly and the Aksys store for a few hours each at $20, but I've yet to see copies drop below $40 beyond that.

I don't want all the extra crap, I just want the game. :whistle2:(
