The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!

If you can find the 2nd one used at Gamestop that's probably the cheapest (especially if you use the 20% off coupon floating around).
Gaijinwork's latest tweet states the sign-up drive is passed 2,000. 500 more to go! Also, this campaign will conclude in the next four days so if you're still hesitant, don't let this opportunity pass by.
I'm assuming these are going to get crazy rare, especially if only less than 3500 are printed.
XSeed posted their planned release schedule for 2013, which includes the already-announced Killer Is Dead (Summer) and Pandora's Tower (March 26), but there are a few surprises:

-Rune Factory 4 :)3ds:) - Summer
-Valhalla Knights 3 (Vita) - Fall
-Ys: Memories of Celceta (Vita) - Fall
-Ys I & II Chronicles+ (Steam) - February

Source: http://www.newgamernation.com/xseed...lineup-which-includes-suda51s-killer-is-dead/

EDIT: Better source with descriptions for each game (except Pandora's Tower): http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/int...ng-killer-is-dead-rune-factory-4-to-n-america
Once Rune Factory 4 comes out, will the value of RF3 plummet? If so, I'll sell it now and pre-order 4. Fun game, but the price it commands online is crazy.

Is that for the regular or the limited boxed version? The boxed ones are pretty high right now.

Weekends suck for this kind of thing, though. Took almost the whole weekend to get a couple hundred added, yet we got almost 100 in the first few hours today now that everyone's back at work/school. We're only 5 away from 2,200 now.

EDIT: We hit 2200. 300 left. It's clear that weekdays are most certainly better for these kinds of drives. "

NNNNIIIIIIICCCCEEEEE!!! :)

Very rare. Only 2,500 physical copies will be made if the sign-up is a success. There will be no reprint so the only way to obtain CoH2 will be to buy it off the Playstation Store once the game is up.

What's another great thing about the physical UMD copy is that Vic mentioned of doing either an interview with one of the developers of CoH2 or a Translations Q&A feature in the manual, just like what he did during the Working Designs days.

It looks like Class of Heroes 2 won't be the swan song for PSP UMDs here in NA. Aksys unveiled a Valentine's Day gift in the form of Sweet Fuse, a visual novel title. If it looks like Ace Attorney, that's because the art style is done by Tatsuro Iwamoto, who worked on the Ace Attorney series.

It'll come out in this summer and it will have a UMD and PSN release. Nice to see Aksys still supporting the PSP with retail releases...unlike other companies *coughAtluscough*.

It's not going to be limited to 2500, they just needed that many units before opening up preorders. Don't get me wrong, it's a one chance only thing; but it's not like people have already missed out on anything.

It is still an Otomate game, just make sure people know what they are getting into.

Well yeah, it was later found out that Vic just needed at least 2,500 people interested. If folks order more than 2,500 copies total, he'll print that many out. The Kickstarter copies will definitely be more valuable so hopefully all 882 backers of that project takes advantage of it.
Growlanser: Heritage of War got a print of 5,000 and it is not as rare as RPGs with a larger print
Are you sure? That doesn't seem like much at all.

That doesn't sound right. I am pretty sure that number pertains to how many copies it sold in North America the year it released. It came from the guy who posted some of the NPD sales figures we requested some years ago.

PSP is one resilient console! I can't believe Aksys is giving us yet another UMD release this year. I'll be buying Sweet Fuse just to support their efforts as well as their release this month.

The NPD number was under 5,000 the last time I checked.

Nice. Pre-ordering the physical as soon as it's available from Amazon. I love these things, and wish more of them would get an English localization.

Did I read that right? We are Keiji Inafune's niece?? +1 to creativity. Will the Blue Bomber *dares not speak his real name* be in this? Can I date him? haha

Well it looks like Persona 2: EP will be played on the PSP and Vita...as well as the PS3. It looks like Atlus has voted on bringing the PS One Classic game to the Playstation Store, according to the ESRB.

While I would've love for the PSP version of EP to come out and seeing that Atlus is much bigger than other smaller publishers who still continue to localize PSP games, I guess it's better than no EP ever hitting the current gen. It's also one heck of a deal, seeing that it'll be cheaper compared to the prices found for physical copies on eBay and whatnot.
Well it wont have the extra content from the PSP version, and the localization is based on the old names.
True but it's better than the worst option: No P2: EP at all. However, it looks like this will be the final nail in the coffin in pertaining to a localization of the PSP game.
Growlanser: Heritage of War got a print of 5,000 and it is not as rare as RPGs with a larger print
Are you sure? I remember Amazon running out before and waiting at least a month for them to get more in stock, which I assume was due to a second (small) print run.

So... maybe one of you can help me figure out if there is something wrong with my computer or if it's Xseed's site.

If you Google "xseed games store", one of the first results shows up as "viagra buy - XSEED games". The same thing happens on my phone. It's definitely their official store... but I'm wondering why it returns as that. Is this happening for anyone else?
Are you sure? I remember Amazon running out before and waiting at least a month for them to get more in stock, which I assume was due to a second (small) print run.
There was no second run, it was probably just Amazon's re-stock from returns and un-shippable orders (due to charging issues such as expired cards or billing issues).

I definitely remember Heritage of War official being limited to 5,000 but there was a CAG who had access to full NPD data (or something) as he worked for some game developer. He made a thread where people could ask for sales data for any game, and I'm fairly sure the official number for Heritage of War was 6,700. Not sure if anyone remembers that thread.. this was back in 06, I think?

Yea, they know about it. They were hacked at least once. They posted on Twitter and FB telling people not to visit the site until it gets fixed, etc.
That's a shame. Kinda feel bad for posting an image of it on their forums now too.
I didn't realize they got hacked. That sucks. Seems like an odd site to hack... probably some disgruntled fan.

According to one of the editors at Atlus, for some reason they couldn't release the PSP version of EP.

But hey, we're getting it in one shape or another and don't have to shell out a hundred bucks to play it.

I love to find out why this couldn't be released in NA. I mean, after all, XSEED had the balls to say Grand Knights History was canceled due to the developer not being able to lend a hand in programming the English script.

I know this is their own IP but they should be honest to their fanbase. Well, we'll find out what is in that blog post in the coming weeks.

that seems odd to me, I don't think there is any major difference engine wise between the PSP versions of Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment

what possible problem could they have run into with Eternal Punishment that is impossible to overcome that Innocent Sin wouldn't have had?

That's considered having balls? They threw the developers under the bus. The developers likely have their hands tied for reasons unknown to us. It's no surprise that a publisher would want to keep mum about delivering an inferior product, especially their own. My guess: porting a PS1 game is considerably easier/cheaper than porting a PSP game.

There is a huge difference. The PSOne version is done and very little work is involve. They dont need any original stuff to do any work. The PSP version got some new stuff, requires Q&A and so on.

There could be a few reasons. The PSP team was let go, assigned to a new project, ect.

Does anyone know what's going on with the Class of Heroes 2 stuff? I know we hit 2500 and I signed up for 1 before we hit 400. So what is the next step? I did the Amazon payments account thing. I haven't gotten any e-mails or anything.

Well voting for the cover art was supposed to begin a couple of days ago but it sounds like Vic was busy designing five potential candidates to win the coveted spot. Supposedly, everyone who signed up will be sent an email Monday morning on preordering a voucher for the retail copies. No idea if that will face a Working Designs delay either.

UPDATE: Voting has officially gone live for the CoH2 cover art over at Gaijinworks' website.

What was previously announced as 3 choices for the cover art, it looks like you have a choice between 6 different front cover art works for the physical release. Furthermore, it looks like it won't be a dual-release launch for the digital download game and the physical + digital code bundle. The game will hit the Playstation Store first and until a timedate on when the games will be reached to us, the preorder sale is on a temporary hold. It shouldn't be too long, I hope. By the way, I chose C. Cover art D is currently in the lead with 33%.

Thanks for the notice on the live voting. I voted for C. (Was torn between A, C, and D).

98 votes in, D has taken the lead at 47% to C's 30%. All the others are single-digits at the moment.

Voted D before reading the percentage spread. I almost never like what other people like, so that was a nice surprise.
