The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games.
There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

NOTE: Please check the most recent page for the latest deals.

And I want to thank many of you in advance who submit their deals and their support!!!

Speaking of Rorona Plus this is straight from the PSN entry:

*Limited time Campaign! For 4 weeks after release, get the new 'Peach Vacation', 'The Orange Swimsuit', 'The Lady's Etiquette' costume set free!

Right now The Lady's Etiquette costume is available from the store:

https://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/#!/en-us/games/addons/atelier-rorona-plus-costume-the-lady's-etiquette/cid=UP4108-PCSE00466_00-SPECIALFREE00002

Yes this is the exclusive costumes from Gamestop so have a go at them when they become free.

Also can someone tell me how to post links not showing the full path?
make some text you want the link to be...

highlight that text and then press

12aad54f09.jpg

which is located on this bar

a388eabd9c.jpg
and just put the link you want in the box that pops up and you should be all set.

Thanks. I noticed that "The Lady's Etiquette" says it's for PS Vita; does that mean it won't work with PS3?

The link I put for the Rorona Plus costume seems to not quite work right....I tried fixing it but it comes up dead...just search for it on the store.

Also from the page:

With this purchase, you can also download the same item for PlayStation®3 system for free from PlayStation®Store!

So it should work for both!

For now--Atelier Rorona Plus was listed for at least a week before it was delisted, and there's still time for Best Buy to delist those two. I just hope they don't.
i would worry about tales of xilla 2 collectors edition. betsbuy has never really been pro-jrpg games, when it comes to stocking item. just look at games like Atelier series. it was up for preorder , and delisted after 2 months of release.

Cool, thanks! Now I don't have to worry about preordering from Gamestop.

You can do that, but I was never interested in that CE.

i got burn by tales of xilla collectors rarity, i am not purchasing it day one, maybe when there is a discount down the road. Hyperdimension Neptunia pp is another game that looks like bestbuy might not fulfill , since it was delisted as well

Yeah, I'll admit that if the ToX2 CE ever dropped closer to $60-$70, I might pick it up, but we'll see.
but then i wouldn't count out bestbuy pulling a mind zero, and restocking the game a month after release. LOL

since the mods of their forum has no idea when it comes to game listings.

Just pre-ordered Tales of Heart R for the Vita at GameStop to insure abother Xenoblade Chronicles fiasco doesn't happen again. Anyone do the same? Also, will Tales of Heart R be available digitally or just physically through GameStop?

all signs point to gamestop exclusive

Tales of Hearts R will probably go digital as well. The physical copy is exclusive to Gamestop currently though it may appear on Namco's web store sometime....I don't think Tales of Hearts R has a release window yet.

I preordered a copy, too, if only to show more support for the Tales of series. I just hope they'll subtitle the end-of-battle quotes before release, as they were absent in all of the gameplay videos from E3. :???:

How is Innocent Life A Futuristic Harvest Moon. Found one for like $7 and I have never played a HM game before.
Gameplay wise it's good, but the story, characters, are really boring, almost non existent. Therr's not much you can buy in the game either

There is no marriage or events like hat as well

I keep hearing people talk about games to watch out for going out of stock.

Can someone make a list or some shit. I don't wanna miss some game that i need to preorder now.

Is Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (mint condition) at $64.99 ($46.79 with bday coupon + PUR) a good deal? My local gamestop has one and I think it'd it be hard to find one complete nowadays for much lower. Tell me what you think! Not really a niche title, but a Japanese game nonetheless xD

that's high hope their, as modders have proved that almost every ps3 game can be remote play, the fact the are pushing the vita as a ps4 accessory which since most ps fan boys are ignorant too and complain about exclusive xbox content but not when ps does the same and are stupid and were bit****** about xbox prices but when they reduce those prices and don't complain that a ps4 plus vita is 600 plus not counting the overpriced memory cards or the half assed attempted with the vita tv, anyway, pretweens need to swallow a bullet, you are not helping America and only sucking Obama off

I'm bummed that Rorona went out of stock / no available from Best Buy. I figured I would have plenty of time to order it. :/
Does anyone know why bestbuy does this, order only a handful of copies of niche titles then delist the item? There are still people wanting to buy these games and bestbuy is just losing sales to other companies. What is the upside for bestbuy here?

You really lost me there. I'm not getting the connection. Anyway isn't remote play playing console games on vita? I'm hoping to play vita games on my tv with a dualshock which is why I want ps tv

I would guess they are just being overly cautious about having stock leftover sitting around. They're clearly being far too cautious, though, and it sucks for those of us with GCU that miss out.

Just bought htoL#NiQ -hotaru no nikki-” from HKD PSN $200 JPN PSN 3,086 円

$25 ~ $30 title, bit expensive for PSN title but I think its worth it

If your buying the game to play or collect then sure, it's a good deal considering the game is going for $60-70. Then again remember the new FE game can be had for cheap, so really consider how die hard of a collector/SRPG fan you are.

Started Drakengard 3 tonight because I am getting tired of Watch Dogs. Have not gotten too far but from what I played it's not bad. Soundtrack is godly though.

I'm going to guess this. In late 2011-2012 they tried very hard to "take on" gamestop. Video Game department supervisors (I loved that job), preorder 5 get $100, more midnight launches, etc. with this came getting waaaay too many copies of certain games. I don't know who thought getting as many copies as we did of The Darkness II, Disney Universe, Epic Mickey, etc, etc, was a good idea, but it wasn't. Those games sat there, did not sell, and eventually became super cheap deals of the day, and Best Buy lost money. After Best Buy failed (or gave up too quickly IMO) to take the gaming world by storm, the cut back on everything. The number of copies of new releases we got in 2013 was pathetic. The number of times we ran out of games on release day was crazy. I believe we got about twice as many copies of The Darkness II on release than we did The Last of Us. It got to the point I was preordering any game I was remotely interested in as soon as it was announced just so I knew we'd get in a few copies.

Why they are cutting off preorders, which is a definite sale I have no idea, but for niche titles at Best Buy I preorder as soon as available, to be sure I get a copy at GCU price. And my Xillia II Collectors Edition better ship, or I'm gonna have a fit.

Rorona Plus isn't being sold by Best Buy. They refunded everyone who preordered it and will not carry it.
That's a damn shame. They've carried every previous PS3 game in the series. :/

Yeah, this perfectly expands on the what I was thinking. Thanks for your 'insider' input ;).

You're right. Last time I went to Best Buy (which was a while ago since they don't have much gaming stock.) it was a wasteland in the gaming section. Looked like Kmart's gaming area.

That's a damn shame. They've carried every previous PS3 game in the series. :/

Yeah, it's terrible. I was hoping to get it with my GCU. Well, now guess I have to get it from Amazon since I dislike Gamestop.

radiant dawn is a pretty bad sequel just for starters. I'm playing it currently which i bought a week or 2 ago off amazon for 45$ like new.

the main issues are the horrible new tos2 like characters/plot especially macaih ugh, the dawn brigade sucks, an the random parties divvied up over the course of the game and really awful character availabilty.

the only improvements were archers being able to counter 1x1 away, skills being mostly interchangeable, faster weapon level gains and 3rd tier. oh and having ranged swords easily available is nice too since swordsman typically lack a ranged option.

meanwhile staffs now count as equipped weapons making healers even more annoying to use -_-

Arc Rise Fantasia - fantastic premise, story looks promising, but the voice acting is horrible. I don't know if it or Resident Evil is worse in that department lol.

Xenoblade Chronicles still goes for $49.99 used ;(
Worth every penny. Best JRPG of the gen IMO. I put around 120 hours into it easy and didn't come close to doing everything.

Just saw the Japanese trailer myself. I still wish there was a definite release date besides "Summer 2014". I'm not surprised at the flame wars that transpired in the YouTube comments. "Should also be on 3DS, it can handle it", "Nothing to play on Vita", "SAO ripped off .Hack". etc. Basically, ardent fan pointless arguments.

I also just found out myself that Tales of Heart R will only have the Japanese Dub with Subtitles. While it won't stop me from purchasing it I've never really been the biggest fan when it comes to Japanese dubs/subtitles when I have to end up doing two things at once. In the end I'll still purchase it. Then you've got people who think that English Dubs are awful in general. I'll admit there are some bad ones but they aren't all awful. I bring up that last part up, because of the GameInformer comments I also read.
I used to be a sub-only snob in my younger days - but then again, in the early days of anime & games the English tracks really *did* suck. Most of what people claim to be horrible voice acting these days is extremely good by comparison.

I did actually switch Tales of Symphonia to the Japanese track only because the skits are fully voiced in Japanese but not in English. :whistle2:(

This is EU isn't it? I see the lady's etiquette set for US but I thought the other free dlcs were just EU. I don't like GS the company either, but I like th employees and amazon has tax in CA so I'd rather just pick it up in store day 1.

Thank you guys for your impressions on Sorcery Saga. I haven't bought it yet, as I'm still unsure. If I do end up buying, it will be my first rouge-like game. Plus it will automatically end up in my backlog, as I still need to finish Neptunia PP. XBlaze comes out next week too...

I've learned my lesson when buying niche games from Best Buy after I received a cancellation on my Danganronpa order. It's a shame how they won't carry these games as online-only titles. Would love to use my GCU on them. I know Gamestop gets a lot of flack for their policies, but they've been really good to me as far as getting all of the niche games, as well as perfect CE boxes.

Your Danganronpa cancellation must have been an anomaly, as I preordered my copy online through Bestbuy.com and received it release week.

Just want to make sure I don't miss out on this, the class for heroes preorder isn't up yet right? I just see the email sign up thing still
I check every morning and every evening to make sure I don't miss out on the order. Yes, I'm a sucker for LE's.

Its not as bad as everyone says it is, I honestly have played worse games example: Time and Eternity. It really plays just like the other Drakengard games so if you played those and enjoyed them than you will enjoy it. Also a few tips:

* Do not stop playing the game once you are finished with Branch A. (This is the first bad ending.)

* To open up the real ending you have to beat branch A,B,C and collect all the weapons, this opens up Branch D. (This is not very hard to do.)

* Play the game in Japanese with subtitles.

* If you die you start over and the mobs do less damage. The exp bonus that you get for not dying is really not worth it as it is very low, so if you are having a hard time just die a lot and the mobs will do less damage.

My main gripe about the game is this:

Why the fuck would you put a white background with white subtitles? When you complete a mission there will be a narrator that speaks but during this they show either a map showing your progress or a timeline to show you when the events took place, well you can not see what the hell the narrator is saying because the background is fucking white and the subtitles are white.

Huh. Guess that sucked for me then. Thankfully I was able to pick up a non pre ordered copy at my GS on release day.

I thought the English voice acting was really good. There are issues with lip sync, but I found the performances to be top notch. Also, the Japanese VA DLC is incredibly huge.

God, I love Drakengard 3. It's not Nier, but it's a whole different kind of gem.

Not entirely sure this is still going, but it is still advertised on their site. Magino Drive is offering two free downloads from the infinity series (Never7, Remember11, Ever17); the site is in Japanese, you will have to make a dummy account and the games will be in Japanese.

Info courtesy of Fuwanovel. Their blog post will have information on navigating the site.

thought , Neptunia PP. was short as hell read somewhere it was like only 3 to 4 hours long... so its longer then that. Tempted to buy it but that review really pushed me off
