The following thread are for niche-based Japanese video games by smaller companies such as Atlus, NIS America, AKSYS, XSEED, D3 Publisher, KOEI/TECMO, SNK Playmore, Ignition, Natsume or any sweet deals for those who are passionate and hardcore about Japanese video games even from the bigger companies like SquareEnix, Sega, Bandai Namco, etc.

But to avoid any messiness of links everywhere, we'll focus on games within the last 2-3 years as opposed to the last five-ten. [although, if you do see older titles on sale, please post them regardless].

The theme of these deals are Japanese video games distributed in the US by the smaller niche companies. The thread is literally for those who love Japanese games. There will be a few Korean games that you may see on this list, such as the "DJ Max" games.

If you see a deal, please post!

Shit finally got around to opening my NISA package. It was Criminal girls LE which i forgot to cancel. Its also ripped on the front. Guess i gotta try calling CS to get a replacement or a refund. They used to be good about that, but getting ahold of anyone now adays is sketchy.

ALso finally opened my Neptunia LE from iffy. Its kinda odd. Was there a big gap in the packaging at the top and bottom for anyone else? Its kinda like the lid is too big for the box or something. Looks very odd

? Havent watched the anime but read a bunch of the manga a while back well before the anime aired and not sure how you could call it a typical shonen anime. People die left and right in that crap

fuck yes, i loved Katanagatari. Was very disappointed in NISA"s release of it though. Their translation was all over the place, and the subs were super tiny. I much prefer my older fansubs of it. Man i havent watched that in a while, i need to give it another watch. As someone mentioned that final tower climb was awesome

yeah nameless npcs for the most part.  and when they do have names they are insignificant side characters so they pointlessly die to add a death count and shock value. Also you can have crazy death counts and still be shonen look no further than a crap load of them even one piece stepped up now.  Really outside the 2 asian assassins, pixis, blonde general and zoey the cast doesn't really have much of a main group.  its more of a bleach style but with copy pasted character designs out the wazoo. crap load of people with some focus on the main character then jumps all around because of whos popular.

I actually agree that mc should of died would of been cool for them to move to a new better character or just pull a gurren loggan and make blondie fem boy the new main. only after a time skip so he become like 15 yr later hope.  all boss and business like.

oh and someone mentioned accelerator

It's hard to overrate or overhype perfection, tho.

As for Knights of Sidonia, anything above a 1/10 is overrating it. I've watched over a thousand animes (not to brag, desu) and very few of them caused me to actually fall asleep while watching them. Sidonia did though, which is an achievement of sorts. The only reason people claim to like it is because it's so counter-culture and edgy to do so. "Wow, CG! Such deep, many smart!" You know, the same people who watch Kaiba and Kemonozume (or maybe Flowers of Evil, since those references are probably too obscure for most of the people in this thread) to affirm their self-proclaimed intelligence.

Come up with a better series, please. And if you could avoid being casual in the process, that'd be much appreciated.

 
knights of sidonia characters alone were more interesting than 90% of anime out last year... the other 10% would be jojo, haikyuu and a few others.

I'm not sure if you are trolling, because while I didn't like Knights of Sidonia that much, AoT is massively over hyped and has terrible pacing. You can't call someone a casual just because they don't agree with you. By your logic, I'm sure the majority of people would say that AoT is a show for casuals and agree that it is over hyped.

it's an adaptation of one of Tsutomu Nihei mangas, all his works are stylized but more of a cyberpunk style for the majority of them... but regardless of the style, his stories and characters are quite interesting and addictive.

Yeah, that did come off as a little snobbish, but Anime arguments are just like Video Game arguments. We aren't all going to enjoy the same Animes or types of Animes. There's no need to speak in a belittling way to people posting their opinions.

Plenty of series are stylish and original. RWBY is too. But if your argument concentrates on "it looks weird, which makes it good", then I guess I was right to pick out three series that you think are bad. I doubt you've seen any of them though, since Sidonia (and CG in general) is hardly standout visually.

So the majority of people doing/saying something doesn't make it casual? Maybe you've got your definitions mixed, cuz hating on the Shingekis is probably the most casual thing there is.

The story is also great and the only one of its kind. The stylish CG is just another plus that really makes it stand out from the usual generic looking anime.

It's the other way around. Almost anyone who has watched more than AoT and Naruto dubbed on Adult Swim would say that show is overrated.

the art was ok, nothing special. yeah the manga pacing is slow and dry at times, even the comedy felt forced.

Before I watch an anime I visit Hot Topic to make sure they're not selling anything from it so I know it's good and also not popular. That's how I knew Knights of Sidonia would be excellent.

I was actually in the process of modding my PSP and importing the Japanese release of it until Sky's got that cease and desist letter. I doubt I'll have a PS4 before it comes out, but I have a feeling it'll be the first game I get for the PS4 whenever I do. Everything I've read and watched about it makes me think it'll be well received.

Square-Enix is awful for charging $60 for a demo, but at least they're giving us a free game with it. I'm literally considering getting a PS4 just to play Episode Duscae. Unfortunately, there are no great deals or price errors that I can get on PS4s as of yet.

another anime that is a bit under the radar, and underrated is aldnoah zero, it is like a combination of gundam seed + evangelion+ code geass

there's been plenty of deals for the ps4 since christmas. you can find them on ebay for $350 (new) or amazon $400 bundled with 2 games and 1 year ps+. even without any deals, you could grab a mover's coupon from the post office and drop it to $360 any day of the week.

And that's before tax. Tax kills the better deals for me. I'm not willing to pay anything over $300 for a console anymore. On top of that, I'm waiting until E3 for a possible price drop/slim announcement. Really don't care for the PS4's design.

Knights of Sidonia or Shingeki no Eotens. i think knights of sidonia will be officially broadcast outside of the US regions in late 2015. attack on titans wouldn't be out till 2016

 
Gais, gais, seriously, there's anime thread. While I don't mind off-topic, it's like 2-3 pages now. When there is a relatively active anime/manga thread. Can we please move it there (or at least the anime deals thread)? I promise I'll still read it.
