'Jeanne d'Arc' - Gen Discussion & Info

I just picked up this game today, and put around two hours into it. I have to say it's much too hard for my taste. Nothing worse for me than battling for 15 minutes just to die and start over from the begining of the fight. I could see how this would be fun for some people, but I really wish they had put in an easy mode or something.

I have only started playing my new copy yesterday, and I have a question.... Does anyone have a problem with the color fading in and out??? This doesn't happen with any other game. At random times, the color becomes very faded/washed out??? Do I have a bad copy of the game, imagining it, or???? ANy help would be appreciated :)

Don't worry about losing weapons or armor when someone leaves your party. Thankfully, they leave everything behind. Also, don't worry about leveling up too much since it just makes the game way too easy. I leveled up way too much at the beginning and started to get bored by the end.

I take it I can't explore towns right? I am on S4 at the moment. Are there random battles in this game or is it all story based?

You should definitely train Lianne. She will become a required party member later.

You can't explore towns. When you enter a place on the map, you could equip your units with weapons, armor and skills or shop if possible. And on most maps, you could go back to them and level your units. There's also something called
"Free Stages" which have much tougher enemies but have nice drops if you finish the level. There are no random battles, all of it story based.

Should I train her hardcore, or just make sure to put her in all the battles? What about the other people, do they go in and out as well, because of the story?

Just keep her levels up with the remainder of your main party members that you use.

Wow. I just got this game, played it for a little bit. I'm hooked. I love the art, and the cutscenes. The game is beautiful. I'm new to the PSP, so I don't have a lot to compare it to, but..... wow.

Is the side level with the dragon (around Level 13) a good place to level up? I got owned when I just did it. My main party is around level 24-25.

Also any tips for combining? Still messing around with it but I need better magic/ traits.

I think the recommended level is at least 30. I didn't do it until I got right before the last couple levels, so it was hard to say for my experience.

As for traits combining, take a look at the FAQ on Gamefaqs. It list the recipe for all the stuff you need.

For the people who beat the game, what level were your characters before you went on the last couple levels? I want to finish the game, but don't want to get stuck if my characters aren't strong enough.

At the end game, my chars. ranged from 55-60.That was like the last 4 or 5 levels.

Ignore the dragon stage when it first pops up, your probably under leveled. You need at least level 30 +to handle them. It's worth coming back to that stage since all bonus stages nets you some high end equipment. That stage isn't ideal place to level up, dragons have too much health. The best place to level up is smaller stages with weaker enemies. You almost guarantee 3-5 experience per attack. When you add ease of stage and bonus experience you should level up in no time. When you get stronger, slowly move on to harder stages for better stones. Use mages or archers for fast stage runs.

Combining is very easy since they blank out most of possible outcome. Just focus on blue stuff, they are generally the best with stats boost- mp,hp, atk up.

Most of my characters was around level 55 except Jeanne and Richard, both of those are level 70( I overabuse transformation for those characters)

I'm at the end of the game and have hardly done skill binding. I checked the guide at gamefaqs and that thing is way too long. What are some spells I should make for the end of the game? What are the best ones to have?

Damn dude. How have you been playing? Strictly brute force?

You just need strong healing spells and your team full of the jewel users so you have plenty of transformations. The super strong spells like earthquake and that lightning storm thing can damage your squad. All I did for the end of the game was wail on the bosses using my transformations and heal people in between then. Hopefully you have picked up the extra jewels along the way so each character has at least 3 transformations.

3...Jewels? Damn how did I miss that? I only have 2 each.

Well, not exactly brute force. I have some II spells and healing. I also leveled up a bit, but the game has been a challenge. I'm on stage 35 right now, stage 34 almost made me rip out my hair, lol.

It's been a challenge? See what I did was struggle through those extra battles. And it made the main game easier. Also, I used my thief guy's (the one with the thick accent ya know) stone that locates hidden treasure on a map. So for every new map I entered, I brought him along. That way I could find all the secret jewels that you are sorely lacking.

:(

Did you get the 2nd mage or the whip chick? I wish I had of gotten the whip chick.

Yeah I screwed up. I missed those stones. I should have read an FAQ. I just beat the game right now. Overall it was a great game. I really enjoyed it.

I got the mage. I kind of regretted it but the mage turned out all right.

You should enjoy it, Rolento. I actually liked it more than the FF Tactics remake. The Burning Aura and Unified Gaurd systems were nice additions to the game.

ok I seem to be stuck in this game . It was late and I saved on a battlefield that was a free battle unknowingly the monsters are far to high lvl for me to beat and I can't seem to find a way to flee off the map is there anyway to get off the map and go to an easier free battle mission to build up my guys or am I basically stuck?

Bought this tonight on a whim at TRU for $16 because I like RPGs. I realize its a sRPG, now, given I've never extensively played one and the only one I've ever actually played for more than an hour is tactics advance, which I did like, and I don't particularly enjoy turn based strategy such as advance wars, should I open and play this, or return it?

^^^ It's a fun game. Open it and play it. It may be turn based but you're only working with like 6 or 7 characters on the field at most so turns go quicker. Infact the whole game has a quick pace to it. And it's easy to get into. You don't need to track your stats or anything unless you want to.

Which free map are you on? The one with the four dragons, birdie things, and the queen bitch? It's been awhile since I played but what happens when you lose? If all you do is go back to the overworld screen then just lose. But I think you are just stuck otherwise.

yeah its the one with the four dragons on it and when I die I go back to the title screen. I think I"m mostly hosed so I started it over again and I"m doing more of the free battles between story battles this time so hopefully that won't happen to me again by the time I get there :/.

Here's what you do. Once you get resident expert theif Collete, you find/create the skill stone that shows the hidden treasure on maps and always ALWAYS FREAKING ALWAYS use him in battle. And if you repeat each map once you'll be fine. The dragons are still going to be really hard to kill so I would jump ahead a few missions in the game before going to fight them. I posted a strategy somewhere in this thread on how to defeat them.

So I should NEVER use Collete..gotcha ;) just kidding man I'll do what I can get that skill setup ^_^. Thanks for the advice.
I beat those 4 dragons no problem, but now what I presume is the final boss is kicking my ass bigtime. I have given up on trying to beat it.
The final boss being all the bosses plus the final boss? Because that's the final boss. And you can't seem to beat them all? Last stage was not hard at all. Figuring out how to beat those four dragons early on was more of a problem than fighting the final boss(s). All you have to do is use all the jewel users (sorry that I forgot their names) and make sure that you finish off bosses with transformed characters so that you can get God Speed. Shit, I had Collette on the map picking up the jewels while the rest of my squad (frog dude, jeanne, jeanne's man, magician, big fuzzy lion dude, boyish looking archer) took on the bosses. I mean granted, I went through all the missions, some even twice to get all the hidden treasure and I had the best of the best when it came to equipment. I had a lot of very good skill stones as well.

I guess people underestimate Collette because he's a little guy. He's the fastest out them all and his robbing ability is hella useful for collecting skill stones and items. Not to mention that he can find treasure and later in the game his poison skill is strong and some of his direct dagger techniques are potent. And don't forget his high critical hit rate which I think there is also a skill stone for to raise even higher. Just let him stab a motherfucker in the back. Watch what happens. And like I've said, if you are using him on EVERY mission he's going to be very strong by the end of the game.

I didn't even bother with Colet. I used Roger, LaHire, Cuisses, Richard, and the 2 archers alot and just went through the game with a little grinding. I did stop to kill the dragons a couple times. Archers become key because they get to avoid the counter attack. I'd just move them close to a tank after attacking so I could take adavantage the Unified Guard.

Alternate between 2 or 3 different save files, so you'll at least have a fallback point if you get stuck along the way.

That's a good idea with any game especially RPGs.

I had given up on this game, as I couldn't beat Altos Prairie. I 10 fights worth of grinding, and still didn't have an army of 30's, so I said fuck it, and just continued along the story line. I beat the next couple battles due to some stellar play/and luck. Easily my two best battles (for not screwing up, and always making right decision). I leveled up more on those two battles, than the ten grinding battles I did (due to fighting higher level enemies). Then I went back and did Altos Prairie (AP), and it was fairly easy, if you have lots of guys with Cyclone II. I wish I would have done it before
I lost Jean though. Speaking of which, that came as a bit of a surprise.

I was so frustrated by AP, I was ready to trade it in. But after picking it up again, skipping AP, and later beating it, I am even more addicted than before (and I am not an RPG/SRPG fan). I hope this advice prevents frustration for others.

Great. Now get to Lvl 50 and go back to Altois Prairie a second time...
how do you get the 'reveal treasure' thing for Collette?
FAQ says you can get it at TOWER OF ALSACE

+-----------------------------------------------------------------+
FREE STAGE: TOWER OF ALSACE FST003
+-----------------------------------------------------------------+
+=========-----------------------------------------------=========+
VICTORY: Defeat the Qrow Leader
+-----------------------------------------------------------------+
DEFEAT : Colet falls in battle
+-----------------------------------------------------------------+
TURNS : 40
+-----------------------------------------------------------------+
ENEMIES: Qrow Leader, Qrow x2, Qrow Knight x3, Wyvern Lord x1
Frost Demon x1
+-----------------------------------------------------------------+

Tips:
You can only bring three characters here and Colet is already a fixed
member. So, I suggest bringing in Jeanne and Gilles. The target of
interest here is the Wyvern Lord that has the skill Mobility +1.
Although its rarity is just 3, that doesn’t mean that this skillstone
is common. Increasing your mobility increases your maximum movement
space so this will be helpful for low MOV characters like your tanks
and archers.
You will need to reach the Qrow Leader by setting up ladders (which
takes 1 turn). Sure you can bring archers instead but remember that
the Qrows have no elevation restriction; thus they can pretty go
wherever they want with ease.

HIDDEN ITEMS:
#1: [13, 11] Just below the 4th ladder
#2: [17, 18] At the northeastern corner of the tower, behind the frost
demon
#3: [13, 18] Two tiles north of the 7th ladder
#4: [ 4, 20] At the back of the rooftop of the main building (north
side)

REWARDS:
454E
1000G
Paladin’s Sword
Assassin’s Knife (Colet)
Treasure Hunter (Colet only)

I just recieved a new copy of this game from a CAGer....

Wow! I couldn't put it down for a couple hours! Its great! I wonder why it seems like such a flop, at least in North America?

I've been playing this quite alot even through all the GTAIV and whatnot... It's a very well made game and brings me slightly back to FFT but with a more user friendly interface/system.

so far I am at
the part where Jeane wakes up in the swamp forest and trains

I am really glad to see people enjoying this game so far after the fact. Sony should have marketed this game some more.

Hey Rolly..
I hope you don't feel too fucked up about a certain someone dying. I was actually mad as hell. I wanted to break shit and scream. Just ain't right dude. People aren't supposed to die in RPGS!
