John Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13
No, keep your $6, go buy lunch or a cheap game, its probably the worst movie ive seen in the last year
Are you sure you are talking about the John Carpenter version and not the recent remake with Fishburne and Hawke?

I personally like them both. JC's original AoP13 is cheesy in that 70s kind of way. I enjoyed it though. It's interesting that the gang that attacked the precinct NEVER say a word through the entire movie. Makes it kind of creepy.

I really liked the 2004 version (except Ja Rule). It was intense and had some decent twists. It is very well made.

I'm thinking he must be talking about the original, seeing as he refers to it as John Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13.

And if that is the case, then I would say buy it. It's an interesting movie, though it's not for everyone.

Okay......it seems this movie is worth of my $5.50 :)

I've heard there is an infamous scene of an ice cream truck........what is that?

You'll just have to wait and watch it but its slightly disturbing.

Yeah, it's not one of those movies you'll watch all the time, but you'll more than likely watch it a few tiimes a year. Don't expect anything even remotely CLOSE to some of his other movies, but For 5.50, it's a good deal. As for the Ice Cream truck thing, people say it's disturbing, but I found it more comical than anything.

If it's the 1976 original, it's a steal at $5.50. I don't support giving money to Wal-Mart, but I do support buying gret John Carpenter flicks for less than six bucks.

Oh yes, definitely. Since it was made on a very low budget, the acting isn't too great, but the action, suspense and plot are all top-notch. I'm a huge Carpenter fan, and despite being one of his earliest, I still think this is one of his best and most effective films. The DVD's good as well, and it's got a great commentary from Johnny himself (and he's widely regarded as one of the best commentary speakers out there).

I haven't seen the remake yet, but I do know Carpenter wasn't a fan of the idea. He said something along the lines of "just another example of how Hollywood has no good ideas left, anymore". It hasn't gotten too horrible reviews, so it may be worth a look. If nothing else, the DTS track on the disc is supposed to be great. :p

A scene that they wouldn't even DREAM of remaking today. They could do it, but they would edit it to hell, and make it as subtle as possible.

Pretty cold blooded.

Carpenter's "Assault on Precinct 13" is amazing. Definitely worth $5.50.

If you get it and like it, you might want to check out "Rio Bravo", a western with John Wayne and Dean Martin. Carpenter adapted the "Rio Bravo" screenplay into "Assault on Precinct 13".

"Rio Bravo" is regarded as one of the finest films in cinema history, too. It's #249 on imdb.com, and it used to be higher.

I bought this about 6 months ago. It's pretty good. I was humming the repetitive soundtrack for about a week after I watched it. The chick at the ice-cream truck was the Escape From Witch Mountain chick, right? Or is it TO Witch Mountain? Anyways, it's a pretty entertaining movie with a couple pretty funny scenes that must have inspired Q Tarantino among others.

I was planning on watching it with commentary some time soon.
I'd get it at Deep Discount DVD in a 2-pack with Dreamscape, which is $8, or $6.40 if you wait a week or so for the 20% off sale.
I thought it was next month around 4 of july. DAMN I will have no funds for the sale if it next week.

By the way CC has the special edition for John Carpenters "Assault On Precinct 13" for $7.49 this week. The SE has an audio commentary with Carpenter, a Q&A session with Carpenter and Austin Stoker, photo gallary, storyboards, and radio spots. The Wal-Mart one for $5.50 however is just the movie itself.

Its well worth $2 more for just the Carpenter audio commentary, as he's usually very informative. :)
