Joystiq: BS Announcement - IBM shipping processors
Because the DMC4 countdown ends tonight at 12 eastern. And I believe on the site it will show a 360 logo.
Nice try, but the countdown is already over. ;)

If you believe Kotaku, it isn't about the 360.

Expect to hear some kinda interesting news about a very interesting upcoming console at 12:01 a.m. EST Friday.

I'm betting on Kotaku making a mistake and it being about 360.

Nah, its either

Atari 15600

Super Jaguar

TurboDuo 780

Amiga 512

Coleco 3000

3DO-2

Maybe it's the next gen sequel to Space War?

As someone who's been completely out of the Devil May Cry hype (never played any of the games), would it be that big of a deal if it was ported over to Xbox 360? Is the series that popular? What I'm guessing is that it's popular enough to add one more notch on the increasingly growing xbox 360 fanbase.

It hurts PS3 more than it helps 360. After losing Assasin's Creed (if they ever had it as exclusive...) as an exclusive launch title they don't have a lot of bright shiny exclusive launch titles which is what the absolutely need in order to convince people their console is worth the extra money.

part of the reason why it makes sense that it's 360 related is because this news is initially being reported by american gaming sites... not japanese. Thus, Sony and Nintendo have less of a chance of showing stuff since they are both primarily japan based, but I know I could be highly wrong.

Even if it's just news of a firmware update for the 360, I'll be happy.
Unless it's a first party game, what weight does the word "Exclusive" hold nowadays.
it depends. If Capcom thinks the game could be a huge hit on another system, like RE4 on the PS2, then they'll port it. They don't have the most confidence in the Xbox though.

in any case, as of now, it's exclusive, according to the trailer and the official site.
Apparently the author of the Joystiq article just confirmed that it's about the Wii.
where? which post? I think it could be what will be included in the wii package.

Yep, here's the quote:
I read all the comments in my stories, so of course I'll see yours.

My embargo has to do with details on a next-gen system. I really can't get into specifics, because I can't break that embargo.

I really don't know who else has gotten the news. I would assume major outlets did also. But, I did get an interview with a major party involved, so there's a chance I could have content that someone else might not.

Now that we're just 4 hours away, I'll tell you this: It has to do with the Wii. More than that, I really can't say.
EDIT: Another Summa comment:
Less than 3 hours away: It has nothing to do with price.
Where is this on Joystiq anyway? I go to their main page and I don't see a single mention of it.

Edit- Nevermind, its on the second page. I didn't know there was a second page of news stuff.
ooh yay! long awaited Wii info!

release date and price are my main bet since it's getting too close to the beleived late october/early november release date.
Someone suggested that on joystiq and the next post from the Joystiq guy was the response: "It has nothing to do with price"

This, and the fact that earlier he mentioned a lot of people would be disappointed, leads me to believe it will be the release date of the Wii.

well eitehr one or the other is fine with me. If both the price and date are given, then awsome... but any new major news of Wii is great news to me.

Lebowsky just updated his post. No Wii pricing just yet, it seems. I don't think it is a first party announcement. Like I said before, they have their big event on the 15th. What would they gain by doing this now? Maybe a third party exclusive on the Wii? Dragon Quest IX, like everybody was speculating? Star Wars light saber game?

You mean when he was saying it obviously wouldn't live up to the hype now? That just means it's not as amazing as expected.

One person who claimed to know what it was wasn't all that excited as a Nintendo fanboy, which would imply that it's positive news, just not all that positive.

Should also add that Summa mentioned he had gotten an interview with "one of the parties involved," so it definitely seems like less of a singular Nintendo news item, unless he's referring to an employee of Nintendo, and not an organization. With that, I'd lean more towards VC or other third-party software news.

Twlight Princess has been canceled due to lack of interest. Big Rigs 2 has taken over as the primary focus of the wii launch.

Capcom has tons of confidence in the 360 after Dead Rising.

That can go through anything and over everything, and not stop, and go thousands of miles an hour, BACKWARDS!!

Calm down, what I (and I think he) meant by the disappointed thing is that people have built this up to be some amazing news when in reality, its good news but nothing spectacular.

I am starting to think that HD Wii is what it is. "will be endlessly fascinating but won't bring us closer to what we want to know" fits perfecty

Then they shouldn't have made this whole thing into a giant ordeal with the "we know something but can't tell you until midnight hehe!!"

Hey, I'm with you on this one, I'm just relaying his message.

If they didn't want a huge ordeal then why have a prerelease news release, why not just release the news at midnight?

Maybe its not the Wii launch price but what the system package will contain.

I'd still be pretty happy with this. Thrilled if they had pictures of the final packaging.

Maybe they interviewed one of the factory workers in China?

He said it was "about the console", which would imply that this isn't just a game release or something.

Konami Classic Collection: TMNT, TMNT2 Arcade (Perfect Arcade Port), TMNT 3 (with Mega Man Powered Up! Like updated Graphics), TMNT IV (Perfect Arcade Port), and The Simpson's unlocked after beating all the games on hard.

No other news is big news afaic.

I can see the interview now:
"So how do you like working on the Wii?"

"Help...me... they havent fed us in day!"

"Uh.. are you looking forward to the Wii?"

"THEY BEAT US! WITH BIG STICK! HELP!"

Hahaha... beating workers...

Hype is your worst enemy. Don't try to make this bigger than it is.

In all reality, it's probably something like the official launch lineup or what colors the Wii will launch in. Nothing more.

There are going to be a lot of disappointed Nintendo fanboys out there come midnight.
Latest hint from Summa:

"Three letters are involved." See comment #666 (how ironic)!
Wii
360
PS3
MGS
DMC
GH2 (Guitar Hero 2)
WWE
OMG
BBQ
WTF
THQ

..and pretty much everything else has three letters.

I'm going in the camp that its either gonna be VC info (either a new developer is opening up to it or price / how it will work details) or colors that are going to be available at launch or solid launch details.

Now wouldn't it be the damnest thing if Nintendo were to announce the launch date for Sept. 14 and all those parties are launch parties? I know it isn't gonna happen since it doesn't have to do anything with launch date or price, but I would be very impressed on Nintendo's part.

If this was true retailers would already have the systems in their stock room.

I'm going against VC information, since it seems Nintendo would want to announce that themselves.

Uh... SNK? We already know they're onboard with the VC though.

IBM, ATI, SDK, DVD, HDD are all decent guess from Joystiq commenters.
