^

So the last 'real' KOTR was Lesnar in 2002 - I remember going to that show, best match on the card was Jamie Knoble v Hurricane. I think Kurt Angle was wearing the toupee/wrestling headpiece combo then, too - did he wrestle Hulk Hogan?

Saying it died then is well and good - but I'd argue you're dismissing the "King Booker" character. Though I'd agree that Regal did fuck all after winning KOTR.

Not gonna lie .. this picture looks like Cena, Hernandez and Rick Steiner all had a child together.

I can't totally dismiss the King Booker character, but it's tough to get past the fact that there was a 4 year gap before it, and a two year gap afterwards. To me, it just smacked of creative needing a new gimmick for Booker T and using KotR to get there. That, and it was a little over-the-top, and also went on for *way* too long. If he had been King Booker for a shorter amount of time, I'd give it more credit... still, it was the biggest push he ever received, so that's something.

And Regal... I hate to pin a lot of this on him, but I think the Wellness violation torpedoed what could've been a nice return to form for KotR. Had the push continued and culminated where it seemed to be headed (Regal as champ), I think it would've given KotR a great amount of credibility again. One of my favorite 2008 moments was him sitting in the throne with that smug evil look on his face and his 'heel' Regal music playing. It just looked right, and I was excited to see where it was headed. It's a shame, too, because that was a great run... if I'm remembering correctly, isn't that where he Regal-plexed then-champ Orton?

Also, I love Juan Cena. How anyone is complaining about this is beyond me.

Typical WWE story line. They did this similar "fired" angle some time back with Hulk Hogan when he was Mr. America.

WWE just keeps spiraling down. RAW needs more Vince.
I'm sure it would've been some sort of wrestling thread revolution :)
No. I was going to do "The Angry Miz Girl Wrestling Topic." But this Juan Cena one will do.

The hilarity of this is the possibility of new merchandise sales!

AND....the hispanic audience...which loves wrestling as it is

WIN...WIN....WIIIIIIIIIIIIIN

This is how they're going to combat Mysterio's supposed backstage politics. Get Juan Cena to rake in the mask money so that Super Rey can't.

Almost thought we'd get a Leslie Nielsen pro wrestling thread since he died today and had a brief series of taped videos about looking for the Undertaker around 17 years ago but the all spanish was a nice touch. :p.Should be a good show tonight.

To be fair, the fired wrestler coming back under a mask is not a WWE originated storyline. It has been used several times.

Never said it was, did I? :booty:

Brackets for tonight have been released:

1st Round:
* John Morrison vs. Cody Rhodes
* Daniel Bryan vs. Alberto Del Rio
* Ezekiel Jackson vs. Drew McIntyre
* Kofi Kingston vs. Sheamus

2nd Round:
* Winner of John Morrison/Cody Rhodes vs. Winner of Daniel Bryan/Alberto Del Rio
* Winner of Ezekiel Jackson/Drew McIntyre vs. Winner of Kofi Kingston/Sheamus

My thoughts
1st Round:
Cody Rhodes
Daniel Bryan (Rey interferes, costing del rio)
Ezekiel Jackson
Sheamus

2nd Round:
Daniel Bryan
Sheamus

Sheamus overall, turning into a fued with Triple H. Trips comes out and takes him out and says something about how he is the King of Kings.

This kind of angle goes back decades and CAN work. Dusty made it work in the early '80s, as did Jimmy Valiant. Mr. America was pretty awful though. RAW having more Vince on it won't do anything to help WWE's bigger problems.

I remember that, the gray gloved undertaker. Nielsen was a detective or something.

I hope they open the show with The Miz coming out and giving a really good promo. Interrupted by Barret or Orton or both but give him the mic time. Been one of his strongest abilities as a performer, except for maybe his first night on Raw.

I always like Mike on The Real World, real prick but hilarious. I seen him as host on Smackdown and then this and I was just like well there goes his career. My how things have changed. He has improved himself over the years and has basically been willing to do whatever it seems and kept his ass out of trouble. Reliable worker. Always good to have a guy like that on the roster.

Opening montage was great plus adding shots of Miz with the belt was AWESOME!

Punk starting early on the shots at Riley. Riley handling it all with stride. Definitely scripted but still a pretty good opening bit from Riley.

I really wanted Juan Cena to just be John Cena with a fake mustache, if for no other reason than because Wade Barrett would have to say "oh come on, that's clearly just John Cena in a fake mustache!"

Punk with a nice Rio reference, and then completely ruining it by having to spell it out. He's like the Jay Leno of the announce team.
