I totally agree, I bought my copy when it was still $50 and I never regretted it.

How's the language barrier? I heard there are a lot of non-fighting elements as well, like for unlocking/upgrading things. I took three quarters of Japanese but definitely don't know/remember enough to make sense of an import game's instructions.

I bought this for $50, don't regret it at all, and know 0 Japanese.

Buy it. You'll enjoy it 10x as much as JSS.

How better is JUS than JSS? I played JSS and thought it sucked (granted, I don't really give a damn about anime, so that may have a lot to do with me not going ape-shit over it), so if this one is similar I won't bother giving it a chance.

So, besides every weeaboo's dream to have all these different anime characters in one game, is it really worth the hassle?

Well, if you plain didn't like the gameplay, this is no different.

However you no longe rhave to match the characters for new ones- just 'evolve' them with gems you get during battle.

There's also no more levels like 1-2,1-3,4-5, etc. There's different worlds, each clusters of smaller worlds, which each pertain to an anime series. Each one of those has missions, which have objectives. So it's easier to follow than JSS.
Are Death Note characters playable?
No.
I'm still having trouble convincing myself that it is going to be $40+S/H worth of good fun...
Then this is not for you.
