just a warning about EBgames.com

Sancho

CAGiversary!
Not sure if anyone figured this out already, but it's just something i've noticed while placing numerous items in my cart on ebgames.com over the past few months

be careful w/ deals like 15% off po dvd's and/or games
not only do they rip you off by taking 15% off the whole order(instead of each game like they advertise),but I've caught them subtracting only 1.50 from my order numerous times w/ games 8-18 dollars(don't quote me w/ the price range on this, but rather my point that -1.50 from multiple games for many different prices=fraud)

just be careful

they do this in-store also, albeit not as bad........they also allow some people to use their eb edge card in-store to take off on preowned purchases, while i've caught them saying the edge card doesn't take off preowned, and is just towards trade-in

you'll notice numerous deceptions on the price drop sections on ebgames.com also

some games that never sold for average price, slashed to new price drop price
I believe red faction for the ps2 is advertised going from 52.99 to 9.99

You aren't a math major, I take it.

The edge card only gives 10% off if you signed up for the GMR or the new discount only card, $10 and $5 respectively. If you just have an edge card but no membership, then you don't get the discount until you sign up. Second, whether they take 15% off each game or 15% off the whole order, it winds up being the same amount. Lastly, Red Faction 2 launched at some stores for $52.99, mostly at mall stores who have KB Toys as competition (KB sold titles for $54.99 at launch, so EB grabbed a couple extra bucks while remaining lower than the competition).

What do you mean? You don't need to sign up for GMR to get the discount, you just get the $5 Edge card and it works fine for 10% online and in store.

what are you guys talking about?
how is taking 1.50 way from any game from 9.99 to 19 dollars 15% off?
it doesn't take a "math major" to know that if they ring up -1.50 off a 9.99 game,then -1.50 on a 14.99 game=wrong

and it doesn't come out to the same discount if you purchase a few games at a time rather than one at a time

I've tried numerous times....once the other night as a matter of fact where I had 3 games in my cart(don't recall the exact amounts) at about 2.99 for 1,5.99 for another, and 9.99 for the third, and it still subtracted only 1.50

I'll admit I'm terrible at math because numbers and my brain just don't mix,but I'm telling you something is suspicious w/ the way they program these deals in at eb

and I have a gmr subscription(to whomever queried) and I was told from day one that I get a percentage taken off my preowned purchases and more trade in value, and twice a clerk b-s'd me by saying"oh,no that's only towards trade ins"

I've been going to eb since 91,and since the dreamcast came out,I've noticed the franchise changed the ways it does business in a myriad of forms.I've noticed blatant lies, sneakiness, mark ups, fraud, and a tremendous drop in standards for who they hire as clerks!

from 2001 and on,they started pushing preowned games sales and trades even more while subsequently and dramatically lowering trade credit to as low as 90% in many cases

In a BIT of fairness to Sancho here I've noticed with the "Classic games" deal you must buy 3 games of equal price otherwise they figure it up for you to get hosed and I've looked at it a bit and it doesn't make sense. What I mean is the math doesn't mesh out even if you count this item with this or whatever.

no jarrett it's not a joke!
I've gotten ripped off plenty of times w/ in-store multiple purchases of pre-owned games
plenty of times I'll notice on my slip that they will take 15% off only one game, even when I purchased 2 or 3.I also mentioned of how I've been told at certain times that I can't use my edge card for preowned discounts, but the clerk always says it in a "brushing off" manner just to shut me up.

ya know granted I'm wrong for not getting certain things straight before I make a thread like this, but I thought I'd be of help to people here that don't care to get ripped off by sneaky businesses, and apparently some would rather be 3 shakes away from debasing me and/or signing me off.

If I didn't notice anything w/ these matters that would make me suspicious enough,I would'nt have even made this thread.Like I said in a previous post,it seems they've stopped doing this on the site(I've tested it a few times ),but as far as in-store,that's a whole other story completely.

Ive never not gotten my 10% with my Edge card. It has always shown the discount being taken off of each item on the recipt. Believe me, if there wasn't a discount being taken, I'd be the 1st to complain. It sounds like you have either a rogue store/store manager or they are just idiots. I would ask to speak to the manager about it. If thats no good, get the DM number and call him/her.
On the buy x get x free deals, remember the free one will always be the cheapest of the bunch. If its buy 2 get 1 the cheapest 1 is the free one. Always been that way every store I go to, wheather its EB, Target, Best Buy, whereever. So don't bitch about it just being EB, its everyone on those deals.

Thanks for letting us know, but it was funny since you were complaining about something that doesn't make sense (15% off each item amounts to 15% off the entire thing). And it could be for example that you bought 6 games for 60 dollars total (some $5, some $15, whatever) and their system showed the $9 discount by subtracting $1.50 from each game, even though it was actually $1 for some and $2 for others. As long as the totals add up, who cares? And if not, you should have them reverse the transaction and leave the store. If you're not satisfied with the product or service, and they refuse to address the problem, why are you doing business with them?

I don't know man. I've never had a problem with the site or in store with coupons or the GMR card and just about everyday I'm adding games to my cart on EBgames.com to see what the price would be after coupon.

I think what he might be saying is that if you take 15% off the order and then take 10% off that total you are not getting your whole 10% off, and this has happen to be when in store EB games had that buy 2 get 10% off, buy 5 get 25% off, etc.

say you order 100 dollars, take 15%, now you pay $85, take 10%, now you pay $76.50 instead of $100 take 25% play $75 dollars

oh i see what you are saying. You mean, if you have buy "4 get 30% off, or 40% off with the edge card" isnt actually 40 percent:

Lets say i buy 5 preowned games that are twenty dollars apiece before discount:

100 before discount - 30% off promotion brings the price down to 70 dollars. The edge card takes an additional ten percent off, BUT the regmonkey may take ten percent off of 70 dollars, instead of 10 percent off of 100 dollars so the total is 63 dollars instead of 60 dollars.

LET THE BUYER BEWARE. Most of the reg monkey's cant do math to save their life, so you be sure to do the math for them.

And then you still hand over your money? :? i wouldn't care if I was wrong, if I felt I was getting ripped off I wouldn't just let them brush me off.

what I was really asking is not about in-store but online because Ebgames.com is in the title. I am sure it is possible for clerks to mess up the percentages but the website should be doing it right.

Personally, I've never had a problem ordering from ebgames.com. All the discounts have worked perfectly. The only thing I don't like is the added taxes, but hey, what can you expect :)

One thing I like about EB is that when they do buy 2 get one free in-store, and I use my edge card, I even get 10% off of the "free" game. So, if the free game was $20, not only is it free, but I also save $2 on the rest of my order.

Since no one is doing the math, I guess I will:

Game A: $20
Game B: $5
Game C: $10

15% of 20: .15x20 = $3.00
15% of 5: .15x5 = $0.75
15% of 10: .15x10 = $1.50

Total per game: $3.00 + $0.75 + $1.50 = $5.25

Total of whole order at regular price: $20 + $5 + $10 = $35

15% of $35: .15x35 = $5.25

Hmmm.... they appear to be the same... looks like someone needs to go back to elementary algebra...

Although the average seems to be like $1.50 per game in your example (not my own) you're forgetting that 15% off the total order is the same as taking 15% off each individual item.

Im not sure if you are complaining about the discounts on this one, but I would like to inform you that all stores do this. Since it is a multiple discount, they give you the promotion one first, hence the 30% off then they give you your normal discount the 10% off. I have never seen a store that added the percentage up and then give you that off the price. This is how it has always been and will always be, thats why they say, 30% off and you can save an extra 10% with your Edge card.

yeahokthenfu is right. Don't complain about not getting 25% off when you're getting a 15% discount plus a 10% discount. If a game is 15% off, THAT'S HOW MUCH THE GAME COSTS AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. You don't get your 10% off what it NORMALLY costs.

In essence, you're asking for more off with your card than you're entitled to. You get 10% off the price of your purchase, not 10% off what the price of your purchase would be if it weren't on sale.

Actually no, when they run the special in store it says get 25% off when you buy 4 games, later they explain if you don't have an edge card it is only 15%, but the total never works right in the system, this might how it always is, but it if you call them on it they will change it for you. now the website does do it seperate so that is understandable

wow, someone's proved they are a complete asschampion a few times in this thread

first the math major jab,now another childish"look at me,I'm so pretentious and intelligent and I also go to college"

IF a store advertjses "40% off" sale and they try to only give me 37 percent, i will try my luck trying to talk my way down to a bigger discount. If i walk out and i think i got a good deal, i am happy. But to offer a sale of 40 % off and only give 37 percent off is false advertising plain and simple
