Alright, what are some must-own titles for the Genesis?

And no Sonic recommendations. I'm sure we all know that other than 3D Blast, those are worth owning.

Here's what I already have:
-Sonic The Hedgehog
-Altered Beast
-Monopoly
-Golden Axe II
-Rocket Knight Adventures

Feel free to recommend stuff that I already own, since I'm not only making this thread for me, but for anyone else who is wondering about Genesis must-owns.

Also, if you have a Genesis and don't own Rocket Knight Adventures, get it ASAP.

X-men or X-men 2, and I'm partial to Shinobi games, so I'll throw Revenge of Shinobi in there.

Also, go for Gunstar Heroes, a classic Treasure shooter. Everyone that I know that had a Genesis instead of an SNES had that game and wouldn't shut up about it.

Madden 96
NHL 94 or 93, not sure...I think 93
Sonic 2
Columns (The one I had was on a 3-in-1 cartridge with Super Hang-On and a soccer game)

If all of my games hadn't gotten stolen, I could recommend some more. But those were some of my favorites.

Super Tecmo Bowl III & Super High Impact Football (that is if you have any minimal interest in football games), Ghouls N Ghosts, Paperboy, and the Road Rashes are all great games to have for the Genesis.

I'm a huge fan of Dick Tracy. Awesome title. Also look for Vectorman 1, 2.. and.. quite possibly my fav Genesis title next to the classic SEGA stuff...

Comix Zone

Of course, it depends largely on what kind of games you're into. For starters, I'll recommend the following Genesis games:

Castlevania: Bloodlines
Contra: Hard Corps
Earthworm Jim series
Gunstar Heroes
Phantasy Star series
Road Rash series
Sega 6-Pak
Shinobi series (Secret of, Shadow Dancer, III)
Splatterhouse 2
Streets of Rage series
Toe Jam & Earl
MUTANT LEAGUE FOOTBALL

MUTANT LEAGUE HOCKEY.

MUST HAVE! These are the best sports games I have played!
Damnit! I was going to say that. I usually don't brag about my gaming skill, but I'm probably better at Mutant League Hockey than I have ever been at any other game.

I used to play the hell outta that game, and now I can pick up most any hockey game and be somewhat decent at it.

I would love for the Dev. company to do a sequel to that little gem.

Do you guys remember the cartoon? Absolute greatness!

Last battle, it was like fist of the north star(the anime movie) I to have been doing the same picking up genesis games, is 10.00 too much for mutant football? Some used local game place has it. I also have been getting ALOT for Dreamcast stuff , I kick my self for EVER getting rid of it and it's kick ass fighting games!

Shining Force 2, Shining in the Darkness, and Phantasy Star 4. I'd recommend Contra Hard Corps if you really hate your life.

Boogerman and Shaq-fu. Everyone keeps dogging it but I used to love that game...would beat it everyday after school.

I loved Zombies Ate My Neighbors too.

Heres some kick ass/good stuff nobody mentioned

Weaponlord
Phantom 2040
Lion King
Micheal Jackson Moonwalker
The Punisher
Shadowrun
Eternal Champions ( not very good but worth checking out)
Spiderman: Maximum Carnage (best beat 'em up on Genesis)
Strider
Road Rash II or III

ghouls n ghost
strider
6 in 1 cart
rolling thunder 2,3
midnight resistence
moonwalker
phantasy star 2
street fighter 2 champ ed

I know u said no sonic games, but sonic cd is worth the purchase of a sega cd IMHO

Also find a power base converter and you could enjoy some sega master system gems also .

Theeternal aleready mentioned it, but Warsong is so great that it alomost made two of my friends fail out of college. Far and away the most played game in my Genny collection back then.

toejam and earl
pirates gold
mercs
streets of rage series (especially 3)
Shining Force 2, Shining in the Darkness, and Phantasy Star 4. I'd recommend Contra Hard Corps if you really hate your life.
yea contra will make you want to kill yourself. its so fricking hard. i dont noramally play contra, but i bought this near the end of the genny's life. i still havent beaten the third level.

Shadow of the Beast and SotB II are both good on Genesis. One of my all-time favorite series. Those really hold a special place in my heart, for truely taking me to another place. Beautiful games. Only problem with the Gen version of SotB 1 is that they changed the awesome music...but it's still sounds good.

Out of this World, if you can find it, and Virtua Racing, if you enjoy racers. Nobunaga's Ambition is classic, and you MUST get Gain Ground. There's so many.

If you like shooters, get ThunderForce II and Gunstar Heroes. If you've got a hundred bucks, get Alien Soldier. Gaiares is also a favorite.

Although a lot of people didn't like them, I liked the Sega CD and 32X. There are a lot of good RPGs and Strategy RPGs on Sega CD, like Lunar I and II, Vay, Dark Wizard, Shining Force CD, etc. If you were to get a Sega CD and had another hundred bucks, then get Snatcher. Trust me. Silpheed is also another good reason to own a Sega CD. Pretty much any non-FMV game (Night Trap...awful memories...). For 32X, I'd reccomend Kolibri (like Ecco the Dolphin, but with a hummingbird), Star Wars Arcade, Stellar Assault, Tempo, Virtua Racing 32X, and most other games for it.

Oh...oops. Guess I went off there. There's so many; I'm only scraping the surface...but those are a few of my favorites.

Mickey Mouse and the Castle of Illusion

Don't laugh, it's the best platformer on the console IMHO, I enjoyed it much more than any of the Sonic games with the exception of the Japanese Sonic CD.

i think that land of illusion was a lot better. had more substace and variety.

Hiya,

For RPGs, Phantasy Star IV, and if you liked that enough, you might wanna old-school it and go Phantasy Star II. Get gamefaqs.com loaded up for Phantasy Star II, though. :p

BY THE WAY, Phantasy Star IV must be the ONLY RPG that won't let you forget what you're supposed to do, because it had that nifty "TALK" feature that made your characters chat with each other, reminding you of your objective. Best thing ever.

Besides the Phantasy Star games, Shining Force I and II are great fun (both of them are... almost equally so) if you like strategy and stuff.

Action games? Popular ones were Vectorman 1 and 2, as well as Earthworm Jim 1 and 2.

Sonic 3 was awesome... especially coupled with Sonic & Knuckles.

Streets of Rage games were fun as well... good beat'em ups. :D

- Phantasy Star Series (especially IV, omg)
- Dr. Robotniks Mean Bean Machine (really fun 2-player)
- Lion King (I'm a sucker for these Disney platformers)
- Mickey Mania (Read above)
- Aladdin (read above again)
- Streets of Rage Series
- Bomberman Series
- Sonic, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles :p
- Ecco the Dolphin Series

as far as hockey games go, it's all about nhlpa '93.

-the vectorman games
-toe jam and earl 1
-general chaos
-crusader of centy
-kid chameleon

i know they all have been mentioned, but i just wanted to second (or third or fourth) them.

Hiya,

Actually, I don't think it was mentioned yet, but my friend used to be into this action / adventure game (part RPG? I don't know) called Light Crusader.

It's made by Treasure (I believe), a company known for their unique games... they've made uh... Mischief Makers (N64), Radiant Silvergun (Saturn), Ikaruga (Dreamcast, Gamecube), and lots of others... lots of sleeper hits, so since nobody's mentioned Light Crusader, you might want to check it out. :p
