Just got a 360... Best MS Points or Live membership deals?

I wasn't planning on getting a 360, but my little brother needed a loan (and to stop f*cking around with video games when he should be trying to pass school)... so I "bought" his off of him.

I've never researched 360 accessory/ game prices, so what are the best deals? I was thinking about picking up only a few games from the live arcade:

Wing Commander
Puzzle Quest
Geometry Wars
Worms

But it would be nice to have some extra points laying around.

Man, paying for a monthly membership to play online sounds so ridiculously stupid ... I'm used to PS2 and most non-MMO PC games being free and stuff.

xbox live arcade unplugged has geometry wars, 1 month of live membership, and 5 other games. I thought I got a good deal on it buying a used copy for $12.99 at gamestop, but it's $7.99 at amazon right now, which is the same price as just the live membership if you were to buy it monthly.

You could always try sears for a clearanced out old style xbox live card for 15ish. They work on the 360 and give you a year of gold.
