All right so its really hard to convince my parents to get me an android or an iphone because they require a data and my parents wont pay for that and wont let me pay for it either. im on a family plan. att.

Long story short, i have decided to get virgin mobile for safety purposes and because it was cyber money and i got the motorola triumph for $127, which was a pretty good substitute for a SG II. it wasnt till yesterday when the phone was in transit i noticed that the coverage covers my zip code but not on my street :whistle2:#

Well i got it today and there was hardly any reception according to the signal indication. it was barely one bar too. Is there any way to make/receive phone calls through wifi with the same number or whenever i get reception from VM? (whenever im out that is)

im pretty much new to the whole android/iphone scene. i have heard ip groove and google voice. but im not sure if that would be tied around my VM number. i havent activated it yet though. what makes even my situation more complicated is that i also may want to transfer my att number to this service but i have no idea yet because i want to see how the service is.

i just want anyones opinion on here on the most efficient way to do it. on the personal side, i reallly dont wanna return it because i have fallen in love with this phone. i will move to orlando for colelge in janurary so i guess this is temporary

I'm on my VM phone now. I would look into Groove IP for the app to call via wifi. When I get on my comp ill type more. Pm me any questions

Even with 1 or no bars, you might still get good reception (i.e., minor distrotion) from what I've read. Remember, they use Sprint's network which usually has very good call quality even with a low number of bars (at least in my experience).

I just got the same phone and the same deal as you. I did the transfer over old number thing but my phone's still not activated, it's been roughly a day. It supposedly takes 2 hours normally but can take up to 3 days (I hope not- especially since they probably don't work during the weekends).

Alright so are you on the $35 a month plan? (300 minutes?) If so and what I use is the app I said above Groove IP which cost me around $5 to buy but has saved me a lot of minutes. Over Wifi the quality is great, but unless you port your number to GV which is a $20 one time fee the people you call will see your google voice number. If you plan on making a lot of calls via wifi that might be the way to go and is something I need to get going on.

Now, where did you get the triumph for $100? I am on the optimus right now

Also, because it's prepaid you can switch carriers at anytime, if service is bad for you T-mobile right now has a $30 a month plan unlimited text/data but only 100 minutes a month, with I believe a better selection of phones, that might be something you want to look into to, mostly again using the App listed to make free calls.

Vinny is right it is under sprints network and I have not had too much trouble making calls with low reception.

really? my friend lives about 2 miles away from me and she has sprint. it is not covered on her street and they still get bad service. maybe its different for everybody. but i am literally one fourth of a mile away from the coverage area  it blows hard (pardon my language) because ive been waiting for a smartphone but my parents bailed on me and this was the second best deal. although, i hear theres a way you can alter the "prl", which makes reception stronger apparently.

i know i can find it through search, but do you by any chance know where the "android" thread is on here? the search of me can not find it :bomb:

well that deal was on cyber monday and unfortunately, its over
but dont worry, i missed out on a samsung galaxy II for FREE and NO activation fees with contract. and now my control freak parents want me to get the galaxy because they were afraid me of using virgin mobile and paying on my own. (because ill be moving out soon) but thats besides the point. but i told them no point because its over.

basically, from the google voice and groove ip, i was hoping to keep one number. so friends/family wont lose track. its kinda hard if you have no reception -____-

but likewhat u and vinny said, i do get one bar or two on att sometimes. however, on VM, its usually 0, sometimes one bar. :whistle2:#
