OK, So I went to K-Mart to check out what they had left over from the big sale and it was a good reminder of why I hated that place so much in the first place. Here's why I hated that place in the first place. About 2 years ago I walked in wearing my backpack because I bike around and I need it to carry stuff around when I buy it you know. I walk all the way to the electronics section after battling my way through a bunch of freakin little kids running around and some piece of shit security guard says I have to check my bag in to the service area. That's like 150 feet away... with a wall of little kids running around basically making it a 5 minute endavor. I said well can I just look in this area, which was the electronics area and he did that thing where he would step in front of me so I couldn't get through thing so I went to the service area to leave my bag and I asked for a ticket or something so that they would know it was my bag but they didn't do that there. They just keep your bags and I gurantee that if someone else would have ask for my bag they would have got it so I just asked for my bag back and left.

So I keep away from that store for about 2 years. The next time I went into there was for an interview because I quit my job and was looking for another one and had gone in to get an application (without my backpack) . When I turned my application in I got a call that same night for an interview the following Monday. I show up to the interview. I go to the service area and let them know that I had an interview and they called who they needed to let know and they tell me to wait a few minutes. THen I wait a few more. Then I wait a few more. I waited 45 minutes for the fuckin interview and I was there on time, in fact I was there early so that they would know there was someone waiting for an interview. I finally get into the intervies and other than greeting herself these were the first words that came out of her mouth. "I'm sorry but when I called I didn't really read the applications." The whole interview was about 5 minutes and she told me that the person in charge of hiring wasn't working and she told me to come back when he was so she schedueled me an interview with him in 2 days.

I come back for the 2nd interview. Tell the service desk again and this time I waited only a mere 30 minutes. Eventually I end up with the same lady that interviewed me the first time and she totally forgot who I even was and that I even had an interview. Not only that but the time my interview started the hiring guy was already off for the day. I didn't even make it into the office this time. That was roughly late last August. I didn't step in there until Yesterday just to check out the "sale".

I go in there with my backpack on of course, after all I plan on buying stuff, and once again I make it to the electronic department and I was checking the games for about 5 minutes then this plain clothed "security" guy tells me that I have to put my bag up front and he even gets 2 other employees to watch and follow me. Now here's the thing. I walk in with clean clothes, bright colors and easily noticeable. The "security" guy looked more like a theif than I did. There were a bunch of people that had dirty clothes that looked like bums walking around with heavy coats on when it was like 65 degrees outside. They let women walkaround with purses on their sides and they don't get any shit but it's way easier to steal stuff by hiding it in a heavy coat or stuffing it in a purse on your side rather than having to take my backpack off of my back and unzipping it to put something in it and put it back on my back. But anyway. This point I already have some games in my hand and pretty much everything good is gone so I just said can I check out. So I check out and for some reason they are more eager to ring me up than the 3 other people that are in front of me... As if that wasn't bad enough, when the cashier starts to ring the games up one of them didn't scan as 50% off but it was in the bin. It was Dragon Ball Z Budokai 2 for the GameCube. In my mind I knew that the game was most likely not on sale but it was in the bin so I'm getting it for sale price. It scans as $29.99. I tell him that that's supposed to be half off (note: I work at the R-Zone in TRU so I know what games are generally going for ) then he tells me that it did and now I have to make him look bad. I start raising my voice when there are a bunch of people in line, and I tell him that that's not half off and once again he says that that's the sale price then I say "you telling me that that game is originally $60.00 when all other new games are $50.00 at most?" he shut up, tried to do a price change but needed a manager to do so but he just sent me to another register up front to get the price change.

Even with the sale the prices are just OK at the best but it definitely wasn't worth all that. I was just int the store for about 15 minutes too. All I can say is the next time I go to K-Mart is when they close down.

I usually get treated like shit at TRU, whether its being asked to show ID in order to use my credit card, or being carded wben trying to buy a game rated T, just to make sure I'm over 13, when I can go next door and buy a case of beer and a carton of cigarettes. At more than one store. I'll never shop at a TRU again.

wahh...you get carded to use your credit card...thats for your own benefit...unless of course you'd like anyone to be able to use your credit card if it ever was lost or stolen

I have had stores make me leave a backpack at the front counter before. Most recently it was CVS and FYE. While it is annoying it doesn't bother me as much as it should. Usually they'll have a sign up that says check bags at the front or something like that. As for the interview, the same thing happened to me when I applied to Best Buy a few years back. I got a call saying to show up for an interview. I got their and waited half an hour. I even had people over at the CS desk page him. The guy never showed so I just left.

It seems that all K-Marts are just extremely disorganized and the employees just don't really know what's going on. Your interview experience is a perfect reflection of that.

I've never, ever, ever been carded before using my credit card. Except by TRU. Others in line used their credit cards, and were not asked for ID. Just me.

And its not for my protection because I'm not liable if the card is stolen and used.

well im not sure what the policy is at TRU, but i know that most of the places that i shop (and have worked at in the past) say that its policy to check for ID if you're using a credit card.....a lot of times, i'll hear the customer in front of me being asked for ID say, "thank you"...simply because it prevents anyone from being able to use your credit card....if you're not liable, i'm not sure what plan you have or what card you have, but i'm sure i'm not liable either...of course thats after i notify the police and file the paper work for my money back...id rather be asked for id than have to go through that process...also, ive noticed that a lot of young women will ask for my id and than look up at me and smile, saying "thank you, bryan"...i think its kind of a way to get a little more information about me...see where i live, how i look under my hat, etc....so i dont mind either way...my wallet is already out, why not just flash them my ID as well? and the whole world judges on looks, whether its how you dress, your facial hair, age, weight, etc....so depending on how trusty or suspicious you look, you may or may not get asked for ID....yes, its wrong, but we all do it...though with this situation, they should be asking everybody...yet they're too lazy or don't want to go through the hassle of asking

my girl used to wear her bookbag all the time since she decided after coming to a few shows, she liked the "hip hop" style of it (shes from the burbs, what can i say). we went to the flicks at a regal cinema, they are quite the sticklers about bringing in bags, unless of course they are purses. they asked her if she could check the bag at the service desk and she said that it was a diaper bag. they look dumbfounded when we had no baby with us and asked "well, wheres the baby?" to which i replied, "in the bag". dude had no idea what to say, just telling us to go, not making her check the bag and i was able to eat all the candy she had snuck in there in her bag.

I was carded a couple of times for using my credit card, then I just stopped using it when I got my debit card with a little picture of me on it. The one time I did get carded I just told the blind cashier to look at the upper left corner of the card.

I do want to say something about the K-mart I went to in Kendall. Why is Mario Party 4 and a wavebird selling for $70? The only thing available for 50% off was Swingerz Golf. I was not happy, but my wife was since jewelry was 70% off

It's sad but true, no store I ever go to asks for ID when I use my credit card. Old Navy asks my girlfriend to see hers everytime but that's it. I'm not sure why they ask to see your ID, but there's probably nothing you can do about it. If you try to ask why they ask they'll indeed tell you it is for your protection. You don't by chance have shifty eyes do you? J/K

Well, I'll just say again, I was never asked before or after for ID, ever, only from TRU. And I use it for every day, I don't carry a lot of cash around. I ended up just going to the bank and withdrawing money to pay. I didn't have a picture ID on me at the time. And asking me to prove that I'm over 13 is just bullshit.

I don't expect to have to identify myself every time I make a small purchase. In fact, I'd rather not identify myself to anyone. I could see how they'd check if you were making a large purchase. But my total was $10.

maybe its a maryland thing :?

Uh, I personally like it when they ask for ID when I use my CC. Shows they actually care about preventing thieves from using a stolen card. This happens very rarely though.

If you don't want to identify yourself, pay cash.

Though I can understand being a little put off by it if you watch other people in front of you use a card and not be asked for ID. That is a little fucked up.

And OP, nice not letting them cow you into just paying the $30 or passing on the game. Fight for your right to be a cheapass.

The security people wear clothes like that to blend in.
The back pack thing is something you'l understand when your older. When a store has heavy theft, they will do whatever they want within reason. Not letting you walk around with a backpack is within reason. Making everyone take off thier jackets at the service desk is not. Having every woman leave thier purse is not.

Get over it and grow the fuck up and learn how the world works.

As for the Credit Card thing, On small purchases i dont see too much of a point, unless it says "see ID" on the back. They have every right to see your id, or tell you to get out of the store. Checking your id is for protection, even with no liability, because that info will become part of your credit info and thusly effect your credit rating in the long run.

Yeah, seriously, you're not supposed to walk around a store with a backpack. That's the rules, at least they are at my TRU. Still, they were kinda an ass about it, in your experiences, but the fact remains.

And the guy whining about getting carded...grow up dude. That's policy as well. When your card gets stolen, you'll be thankful.
Why do you think they're closing so many stores?
Because the higher ups were stealing money left and right as they let the ideals and quality of thier stores go completely down the crapper. Right now, and this will surprise many, but they are on an upswing. They are remodeling select stores, and even making sure thier managements trained right (including department heads).

My local K Mart had no section for the sale when I went yesterday, and since I didn't know what games were part of the sale I didn't get anything.

It all started with the fact that they didn't understand competition and they didn't know how to run a business. K-Mart sat high for many years without harsh competition. I know in Vegas, where I grew up, they did very well, until Wal*Mart came to town. Wal*Mart was 24 hrs. But K-Mart thought they could survive by continuing to open at 10 A.M. and some stores closed as early as 8 P.M. on weekdays! They just didn't understand. You could easily PM at WM, not at KM - it was a hassle, if you could even get them to do it. WM was the first place that would take returns on things without a receipt. You could even return something to WM that they don't sell, they'd just look it up in the corporate system and give you the MSRP back (in cash!). It was like pulling teeth at KM to return something you had bought just the day before and you had a receipt for. These are just a few examples. It wasn't six months after WM rolled into town that KMs all over the city started dropping like flies. And it wasn't because of anything malicious WM did (mind you, these were the days where WM was just trying to get a foothold in the market - in the west). It was because of blatant negligence on KM's part. And this was over twelve years ago. Bad management is just in addition to their lifelong bad business sense.

Sad part is that I was in one store at 8:30 and waited for 15 minutes for someone in electronics to check something in the case, before giving up and hitting the road.

DD was probably referring to the thread title and not your post.

"K-Mart sucks" is probably the most memorable line from the movie.

Like I said, I haven't seen the movie. And so many people can't use quotes, that sometimes I assume a post right under another one is a reply, when it is so vague... Sorry.
