How about a game that I am now convinced is underrated: The Simpsons Game. I'm mostly interested in the 360 version.

And did anyone ask about Shadowrun yet?
Honestly, that Simpsons demo camera system really scared me off from making that purchase. Maybe when it hits that magical $20 mark...

Simpsons - 122k (360) 74k (PS3) 142k (Wii) 145k (DS) 167k (PSP) (!!) 210k (PS2)

Shadowrun - 167k [more than I thought there would be....totally the wrong price point for this game]

In the full game, I found the camera to be no trouble at all. They must have gone back and tweaked it or something because I thought the same thing you did during the demo.

Just my two cents.

Good to hear. The humor and imagery was so dead on, I'll have to give it a shot.

Wow, that is somewhat surprising as there are a ton of these at Best Buy. They've been $10 there for a while and I bought at least 6 or 7 myself for $5 using the GamePro coupon last year. I traded a few in to Gamerush and then sold a few more that I had left over just before Christmas. They seem to be in demand in other countries for some reason - no great profit, mind you, but at least people in Brazil and such want to buy them ;). I was just trying to unload a few as I found I had some hidden in my game closet that I never got around to trading in. I kept 1 for myself but will probably never play it. It is nice to know it is such a "rare" item though.

I completely missed all this great info! The thread title is very deceiving... And thanks DMK for compiling the lists. I think that is a great way to do it as well as it isn't so obvious that way.

As for the Simpson's game, I enjoyed it immensely - however, I beat it pretty easily (and nearly completely) on a rental (360 version). So I wouldn't pay $50-$60 for it.

Here are some random things for you to look up roland:

:psp:
Astonishia Story (another one that is everywhere but I'm guessing sales are very low)
Disgaea

:ds:
Age of Empires
Deep Labyrinth
Dragon Quest Heroes Rocket Slime
Dragon Quest Monsters Joker
Final Fantasy III
Mage Knight Destiny's Soldier
Yoshi's Touch & Go

:ps2:
Monster Rancher 3
Monster Rancher 4
Monster Rancher Evo
Rogue Galaxy

:gc:
Baten Kaitos
Baten Kaitos Origins
Skies of Arcadia Legends
Tales of Symphonia

I gots tons more - this is just a sample of what I see in my game closet (plus some others I'm curious about like the Monster Rancher series - only have the last one now. And I never bought Astonishia ;)).

Yeah, once the thread started taking off, I was tempted to change the title, but figured that might bring bad juju on me.

How's the Simpsons achievements on 360? Yeah, I'm a whore...

Astonishia Story - 34k
Disgaea - 40k

Age of Empires - 216k
Deep Labyrinth - 21k
Dragon Quest Heroes Rocket Slime - 85k
Dragon Quest Monsters Joker - 95k
Final Fantasy III - 567k
Mage Knight Destiny's Soldier - 12k
Yoshi's Touch & Go - 278k

Monster Rancher 3 - 90k
Monster Rancher 4 - 61k
Monster Rancher Evo - 32k
Rogue Galaxy - 143k

Baten Kaitos - 165k
Baten Kaitos Origins - 30k
Skies of Arcadia Legends - 151k
Tales of Symphonia - 465k

Cool, thanks. Much better sales for Symphonia than I thought. You'd think that would have meant a sequel for the GC instead of the PS2. Just look at Rogue Galaxy for example... Big dropoff in Baten Kaitos though, so that would argue the other side of it ;).

As for the achievements in Simpsons - that's what I mean by a nearly complete beating during the rental period. You can look at my tag but I got almost all of them. There are a few I consider impossible though - the key offender being getting perfect on the last "battle" which is impossible due to the 360 D-pad because if you push the wrong direction just once you lose that achievement, and it was registering all kinds of wacky input when I was doing that (it is a DDR-type "battle" where the D-pad is used for the arrows). Also, a couple of the time challenges where you have to float using "bloated" Homer are near impossible as the control is very tough to handle there under some super-tough time restrictions. But you can get 900 or so easily during a rental. You do need to spend a bit of time finding all the collectables in Springfield but I did that without too much trouble.

Oh and I should add that this is probably the only game that I've ever laughed out loud at - just wait till you hear some of the lines Mr Sparkle has in the "Big Super Happy Fun-Fun" level.

A sample: http://www.ea.com/simpsons/superhappy/ though my favorite line isn't in that trailer...
Actually, lets see Devil May Cry 1, 2 and 3.

PS2 DMC2 457K (20031228)
PS2 DMC3 281K (20051225)

Some of you really aren't giving some games time to build up sales either.
ie, series like DOA. we got the sales for a game that was out for 2 years and compare it to the predecessor which had been out for 6 years.
Why wasn't there a US release for the XBOX version of GGX Isuka if the XBOX version of the original game sold the most out of the series in the US?

That is a good point. But one thing to keep in mind is that, generally speaking, games tend to sell at least 30-40% of their eventual total over the course of the first 3-4 months (probably closer to 3 months). The shelf life of most games is pretty minimal.

435k of a fighting game over 2 years still doesn't make it hard to not imagine it hitting the same amount of sales as DOA3. The price of the game hasn't gone down much. I imagine when it really goes budget ($20) it'll pick up a bit.
I think the shelf life of DOA4 is good. I bet DOAU didn't sell well because of DOA3. Even though when I see Tekken tag compared to Tekken 5 it's not that much of a difference. you have Tekken 4 numbers?

I actually bought Bug Island used and played it for a bit. It wasn't good but it wasn't as horrible as the reviews say. Very bland. I didn't find it to be any worse gameplay wise than a title like Obscure for the XBOX or PS2. I truly think it was a game that was definitely hurt by the lackluster graphics. The gameplay was ancient but really not awful. If it had been on the 360 with better graphics, I think it would have fared better with reviewers.

A lot of games (as we've seen even in this thread) don't sell 400k period, let alone in their third and fourth years. Let's see if we can illustrate - roland, could you give us the sales for DOA4 last month?

Also, now that I'm curious as to how silly the closure of Clover was, how did the Viewtiful Joe games do? My mind is somewhat boggled at the fact that Okami is considered the final nail in their coffin, when the game has likely sold over half a million copies (400k in Japan + US).

I really don't see DOA5 coming out anytime soon. It's really only been one main DOA game per system, followed by a bunch of deluxe editions.

Sure thing....

DOA4 sold 9,631 copies in Dec 07. From its release in Dec 05 to February 07, it sold 369k. So in roughly the last 10 months, it had only sold around 70k.

Viewtiful Joe Rumble - 34k (GC) 36k (PSP)
Viewtiful Joe - 323k (GC) 116k (PS2)
Viewtiful Joe 2 - 148k (GC) 88k (PS2)
Viewtiful Joe Double Trouble - 58k (DS)

So obviously not a terribly poorly selling franchise, but for a company the size of Capcom, it's also not a viable franchise. Now, a publisher like Majesco or SouthPeak would probably take those numbers and continue the francise.

God Hand did 42k on the PS2 in the US. So really, Clover wasn't all that commercially successful, and it's really not a surprise for a larger publisher to put their money elsewhere.
Jewel Summoner is fairly uncommon. They must not have printed very much.
