first of all, I am not talking about you in particular. I am talking about the majority of white America. second, i think you are wrong. It is CRITICAL to acknowledge that racism still exists before anything can be done to put and end to it. Ignoring it is the worst thing we can do. That just makes it more acceptable. I am not finding any racism "where there is none" as you have said. It is very much "there," admit it or not.

Lets see how much money the Red Cross brings in from this from personal donations. I am %100 sure this amount would be the same if it were a %70 white area. I see the problem with the "black people" believing that white people are bigots. But I have not seen one news story about the reverse racism about the blacks turning on the whites being racism. This is happening. Are a few black people being racist? Yes. Are all the black people in NO racist? No.

I am probably going to be flamed for this but it needs to be said. If any racism is going on during this whole thing it is not "whites not helping blacks," it is "blacks trying to rape, kill, harm whites."

I hate having to bring all this up but it needed to be said. Natural disasters don’t discriminate race, wealth or any other factor. We are helping and why is it the national governments fault and not the local state and city government. The picture of all the busses in the parking lot that is flooded made me sad and upset that more help wasn't given before the destruction.

People NEED to be aware of that so that IT CAN STOP. It needs to stop being a taboo issue and become something we AKNOWLEDGE and work towards ending. My claims might seem bold and outragious, but if you look at our country, there is a lot of truth to them. Thats the problem with this country. People are too content IGNORING the real issues as long as they dont see an imediate impact. Id be more then eager to shoot people who had looted all the weapons, alcohol and tobacco in town, who have been shooting officers trying to help. Id be more then eager to shoot people who have raped others and kill others who are defenseless and just trying to get out.

Agreed. And last time I checked you can't swim with 5 pairs of Nikes in your hands. I don't think these people who are looting and harming others really want to be saved that bad if stealing things that are essentially useless is their highest priority. Maybe if you want to be buried in that new Michael Vick jersey you just stole. Hell, they had a week to try to get out or at least make some progress towards it but they chose not to. 5 days of walking can get you pretty far if you're not carrying stolen electronics the whole way. It is a shame that a lot of weak and sick people, hospitals full of them were unable to get out and unable to get the assistance that they desperately needed, but a lot of the people you see doing all of the stealing and complaining at the side of the roads when people are coming to save them look perfectly healthy. START WALKING if the help isn't good enough for you. Yeah it could have gotten there faster, but the helpers could also work faster if they weren't being shot at. Think of how incredibly hard it must be to go into a disaster area and try to save a few people, only to find out that they are doing well enough to want to kill you for not bailing them out faster.

Blame gravitates to where the influence is. Right now, it's gravitating towards Bush. Because for the past 5 decades, government on the national level has held substantially more influence over governments on the local level. Bush has pushed that influence even further with the NCLB and Patriot acts.


Am I saying that the Governer wasn't responsible? Hell no. But I'm saying that blame ultimately falls on the President, because he was the one declining foreign aid, and at the same time pulling rescue crews out of NO. While he finally accepted the aid, and sent rescue crews back in, it's too late. Way too many people have died. Blame can be sorted out later. People's lives will always be more important.

Kanye spoke from his heart, despite what all these "just for publicity" pundits keep spouting. You could tell from how disjointed his speech was. If he was reading from a teleprompter or had rehearsed, it would have sounded more like how he speaks on his albums. That being said, I also hold to the belief that what Kanye said was wrong. Bush doesn't hate Black people. He's apathetic to the plight of the poor. It's proven by his adherence to Reagans idiotic "trickle down" economics. But that's a convo for the VS. board.

I give credit for Kayne West for speaking his mind but I disagree with him.

I dont think Bush is a racist and but I do think he's a terrible president. I dont really blame him for the slow response time to Katrina but I do blame him for the Iraq war mess.

If Bush doesn't care about black people, then why has he appointed more blacks to high level cabinet positions than any other president? Why is minority home ownership at a level higher than it's ever been before (http://www.whitehouse.gov/infocus/homeownership/). If Bush was out to get the black man, he's doing a really bad job of it.

What is Kanye doing on the other hand? Wow he pony'd up a million for victims. Big deal. What is he doing for blacks on a day to day basis? He's just like Rev. Jesse Jackson, show up when you can make a big deal out of something, but be strangely absent when things are status quo.

Things aren't going flawlessly in the aftermath (though who expected a city to be completely flooded and some thugs to use the opportunity to rape and pillage) but to somehow make the leap and say "Bush doesn't care about blacks". Give me a break.

The bottom line is that now is not the time to make this a race issue.

To put things in perspective, an ENTIRE CITY was wiped off the map. There has never been anything even CLOSE to that in American history.

Too many people want to affix "blame" for this-- they need to WAKE UP. As mere humans, we are entirely at the mercy of nature. And sometimes nature hits HARD. Just because America is the greatest nation to ever grace the face of the earth doesn't make us immune to nature.

Situations like this are heartbreaking human tragedies. Guess what--- IT HAPPENS and we are UNABLE to always stop them.

Nature doesn't care about race OR Kanye West's cheap punk attempt to smear George Bush in this time of need.

Those are REAL people that have had their lives turned upside down, and these are REAL people that are trying to help their fellow humans out.

Piles of human garbage like Kanye West, that use such tragic circumstances as a political football for taking stabs at politicians they don't like, should be ignored in this instance- period.
