Did anyone play King Kong on the OPM demo dvd? I am really impressed with it so far. I am not sure if I will buy it at $50, but I would buy it at $40. What did you think of it?

Good game I have the demo I might buy from what I played. I like the switching between kong and the people. I would wait and see what the reviewers say about it. A very good game it played great. The only thing I think that could hurt it would be length and repetiveness.

Just got done with the demo. I was overall pretty dissapointed.

The first-person stuff looks great. i really like the idea of the game essentially being a series of scripted escape sequences with some light puzzle-solving. In that respect, the game looks like it could be a triumphant success.

The dissapointment lies in the Kong parts. Based on video clips beating up dynosaurs as Kong looks really cool. The graphics are good, it's well animated, and the presentation looks good. But the controls were really clunky. Dynos knocking you down as soon as you start to get back up, having to constantly protect the girl, and worst of all, having to rapidly hit buttons to perform a finishing move. I couldn't stand that crap. And the platforming isn't even actually platforming, but just the illusion of platforming as you cannot fall. If this were a small part of the game ala Prince of Persia it'd be fine, but from what I hear, about a third of the game is played as Kong, which sounds like way too much.

It seems that whenever a game tries mixing multiple gameplay styles one of them always fails. Like how Rebel Strike and Star Fox Assult let you play ground missions. What was that about? Kong looks to be following that same path, which is a damn shame since so much of the game looks so good.

P.S. I may also have a slight bias against owning it as it is based on a movie (as it says on the cover) and the movie looks like crap to me.

Both the movie and the game look great to me. I'll either pick up the Xbox 360 or PC version though. Lot of detailed will be missed in the current gen consoles. As long as the Kong portions of the game are limited to a third I'm fine. They serve their purpose I guess but the lack of control and the repetative play during those scenes bring the game down. They also don't have near the sense of excitement as the rest of the game with the running for your life, buring spears and starting fires.

Yeah i tried the demo myself , was awsome playing kong and beating the crap out of some dino,s

I rented the game, so far i've never been more bored with a game. Hey, a crab. Oh, another. Oh, another. And another. And another, another, another.. oh wait, here's a dinosaur, and they expect me to kill it with a stick. One dinosaur. Two. Three. Four dinosaurs, a centipede and a flying thing that annoys the hell out of you. Yay. And I have.. a stick.

Big thumbs down from me.

The demo was fun.. the full game.. not so much.

I just beat the full game, and here's my two cents:

Overall I'd say it was pretty good. The first-person stuff was mostly excellent (if a little repetitive), but the Kong stuff sucked a lot. He controls like a tank and you essentially just end up mashing your way through his segments. Thankfully, they are few and far between and add up to maybe 15% of the game. The full game took me about 7 hours and I doubt more than an hour of that was as Kong, so it's not a huge deal, but it does bring the game down a few points. And the game is a little reptitive, even for a 7 hour game.

Still, the sense of tension was amazing, and skull island flat out ruled. I would deffinitely say that King Kong is the greatest survival horror game I've ever played. That's actually not saying much, because I haven't liked any other survival horror game. I found the pre 4 Resident Evil games to be absolutely horrible, in no small part due to respawning enemies, but no respawning ammo or health. This resulted in unneccesary stress worrying about your resources over a 10+ hour game. But in King Kong, your health regenerates over time, so that's never an issue, and though your ammo is in limited supply, sticks aren't, so there's a lot of tension groping around for them while you and your crew are getting attacked. And if you're low on both ammo and sticks you can resort to the ingenious food-chain system and create a diversion to sneak past enemies. It's survival-horror that always leaves you with a way out, and in this aspect King Kong is just plain brilliant.

There may not be enough meat to the game to warrant a purchase, it's just about perfect as a rental.

Pros:
--excellent sense of tension in first-person mode
-simple, yet ellegent control scheme
-amazing graphics and even more amazing sound

Cons:
-Kong stuff flat out sucks
-too short
-a little too repetitive

overall 8 out of 10.

P.S. On a side note, the game does the thing it was created to do very well: make you want to see the movie. Before I had my reservations about a Jackson Kong flick, but I've somehow changed my mind. Maybe it was the music, which was excellent and I'm assuming was taken from the score of the actual film. And even Jack Black sounds better for the part than I had expected now that iihear him more.
