Rob Van Dam: One of a Kind, Backlash '05, Royal Rumble '05, Royal Rumble '04, No Mercy '04, Armageddon '04, and No Way Out '04 were also shown - I just forgot about them. Other DVDs that have been confirmed (but that I didn't see during my one visit last night) are Billy Graham's DVD for $4, Tough Enough 4 for $4, and Before They Were Superstars for $. I really want the Graham set, so I'll probably check a few stores out this weekend for it. I'm absolutely giddy due to this DVD sale. I cannot believe how much great wrestling is available for so little money.

Also, Andre kept wrestling until September of '92 - 3 months before his death. I almost cried the first time I saw it because you could tell Andre was in agonizing pain throughout it.
I tried the Walmart closest to me today, and was pleasantly surprised that it was one of those newer/cleaner Walmarts. Oh sure there were still plenty of inbred people there, but at least the store itself wasn't as dirty as most. Even had a Subway in it.

Anyway, there were hardly any wrestling dvds at all at this store. Maybe they bundled all the goods together and put 'em next door at Sam's Club, who knows. Either way, all I saw was Vengeance 2006, WM 22 & Rey Mysterio package, Vince McMahon, I want to say Unforgiven and Hogan's 4 disc collection. All at regular prices. That makes me a sad panda.

There's one other Walmart about 10 minutes away from me that I may try tomorrow.

Billy Graham is alright, but I watched that one right after Jake and they let him off really light. It is amazing that someone who legitimately tried to ruin McMahon gets treated as well as he did.

I just posted this on Ruckus's myspace.

yo i saw you at the mcw show in dundalk. good match w/ sabin. congrats on getting that wsx gig but personally i'd rather see you in the x-division one day. good luck with everything man, and of course, keep blazin :]

I feel so cool.
Here's the first trailer for WSX; it features Teddy Hart doing a shooting star press off of a very high place, and someone spearing someone through a car window - http://www.mtv.com/overdrive/?vid=127565
That's fucking SICK... this is what ECW should have been all along.

Was that Vampiro?? And X-Pac?
Was that Vampiro?? And X-Pac?
Yep. The trailer looks fun, but a little heavy on the "gimmicks" (shit exploding, for instance).

Yep, both were confirmed to be part of it.

where the fuck did this wsx come from?

and yea way too much boom and shit.. why cant they just wrestle...or atleast "old school ecw" type wrestling.. not fucking playing with electricity type of shit

reminds me again of backyard wrestling game
Yep. The trailer looks fun, but a little heavy on the "gimmicks" (shit exploding, for instance).
I'll take gimmicks over shitty storylines... admist all the gimmicks there was some insane spots and moves too.

Electrified steel cage? YES.

One of the commercials on MTV has a guy getting body slammed into a ton of tacks as well.

And please, there are already 4 shows with just wrestling and shit storylines, I'm glad this one is going over the top, in order to differentiate itself.

QFT

I'll at least give the first episode a shot because the trailer looks pretty good. I'm not going to expect much since it's an MTV product, so hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Ehh...I'd be hard pressed to say there is "wrestling" on TV at the moment. The good matches are just too far and few in between, IMO. WSX could change that (it has a feel of ECW, but ramped up a bit, and as guyver pointed out, a backyard essence as well), but I won't hold my breath. I look forward to it, sure...but am not (ever) without reservations.

WSX only has 30 minutes to work with - don't watch this expecting good, long wrestling matches. It has New Jack on MTV - that's reason enough to watch.
Hmm...are the CZW videos any good?
Depends.

You can't really go wrong if you get a Cage of Death, Tournament of Death or Best Of The Best.

As reported earlier, World Wrestling Entertainment has chosen to discontinue the pay-per-view press conferences effective immediately. One source said that the reason for this was that too many people would come to the events to chant "TNA", not to mention "VKM", during the conferences. This problem was especially evident at the New Year's Revolution press conference last week as there were several loud, audible "TNA" chants during the event. To make matters worse, Jonathan Coachman acknowledged the chants by saying, "that like Kansas City, TNA is inferior." All of this was audible on the live webcast on WWE.com, but it was edited out of the subsequent post of the video.

Anyways, the chants at the New Year's Revolution press conference irritated Vince McMahon so much that he decided to cancel all future pay-per-view press conferences effective immediately.

Also, WWE has really been clamping down on fans' signs in recent weeks. For instance, at the 12/26 house show in Hershey, PA, they were confiscating several signs at the door. The current policy calls for anything lewd, anything TNA related, anti-babyface signs, not to mention anything plugging a website, to be confiscated by sercurity. Furthermore, the term "VKM" has been added to the banned list of signs that fans aren't allowed to bring to WWE events. There have been several reports in recent weeks of security confiscating signs that show the initials of everyone's favorite WWE Chairman, Vincent Kennedy McMahon.

Good going, asshole fans.
Good going, asshole fans.
The fans are innovative; this will not stop them. Let them get under his skin, because god knows 5 hours of bullshit programming every week gets under my skin.

Moreover, the press conferences were silly and unnecessary, and perhaps costly as well. Like every pro wrestling press conference ever, the only cameras and microphones set up are the ones brought by the wrestling company promoting it.

WSX won't last, but they do have some good talent for those of you who have (or have yet to) watch ROH. Matt Sydal, Jack Evans, and PUMA are all in WSX, as is Colt Cabana (though he's under a mask, I think).

So, why ruin things for fans?

I don't like TNA but that doesn't mean I'm going to drive to Orlando and start WWE chants while holding a Cena sign like a giant douchebag.

The press conferences were just a silly little thing they did for fans and the local media.

Now because some fucking retards they not only got rid of them but are cracking down on any negative sign brought to live events.

That's WWE's decision to make, not the fans. I can't believe I'm defending smart fans, but they choose to do what they want. If they want to see a better WWE product and choose to voice their displeasure by chanting the name of the competition, that's their choice. Of course, the irony is that we all know historically the only way to get WWE to change is to stop watching the show - a ratings drop of just 1 point (into the mid 2's at this point) on Raw would be a MASSIVE cause for alarm and change of vision at the company. Instead, stagnant ratings put Vince into a shitstorm of a different variety, one in which he tries anything and everything stupid to see what sticks (see: Rosie vs Donald, angles and gimmicks from the 1995-6 WWF era).

So, sure, it's counterproductive, and it does nothing to change what they want to see change. But it's WWE's decision to duck its head and cry like babies about it, instead of trying to adapt the product, or not shove the Bobby Lashleys of the world down our throats. Blame the WWE for lacking the balls to face up to its own mistakes and challenges in the program, not the malcontent fans who grouse about everything.

What's interesting is that this is *crystal clear* evidence that he is afraid of TNA, and he is bothered by VKM. In other words, it is *working*. Precisely what they had in mind.

At any rate, TNA now has about 85% of the ratings of ECW; one show has been growing in the ratings trends very slowly, while the other has been shrinking, also very slowly. I don't think it's gonna take coming up to Raw's ratings level to get Vince and company to panic - it'll happen the very first week TNA beats ECW in the ratings, which could happen as soon as late February, IMO.
Speaking of Rosie/Donald, I didn't see ANY media covering it afterwards...anyone else?
It's because no one cared, it doesn't matter though, as they're just building the gimmick up until they can put the real Trump on TV. Supposedly it's going to be some cross-promotion in order to remind people that the Apprentice is starting.

Edit: Actually, I just saw this:
Today on The Howard Stern show on Sirius Radio, Howard played some clips from Monday Night Raw's "Historic" Rosie vs. Trump face off. Howard began playing the clip and immediately asked what happened to Vince's voice, JD (part of the show's crew) came in and explained how Vince was in his "Mr. McMahon" character. Howard played more of the clip where Vince meets Rosie in the dressing room, about 20 seconds in Howard stopped the clip and started going off on how boring the clip was and how he couldn't believe people actually watched wrestling. Stern then played another clip hoping it would be more entertaining, playing the clip where Vince was introducing Rosie to the ring and you could hear Jim Ross commentating as Rosie made her entrance. At this time Stern finally stopped the clip for good, again asking how people actually found WWE entertaining. Some of the other studio crew started to make fun of how bad the WWE clips were and then JD went on to mention how the Rosie vs. Trump match was actually booed by the fans at the arena and how they were loudly chanting "we want wrestlers" during the "match".

The entire time Stern spent discussing WWE was about 2 minutes overall. You could almost sense that Howard was expecting funny material from the WWE clips and was very disappointed when he found it wasn't entertaining. I found it very ironic that even the "King of All Media" (who is widely known for his love and use of adolescent humor) was unable to find any kind of entertainment in WWE's current product.

Apparently Howard Stern watched it for the first time on air and went into a tirade, wondering how anyone could find the WWE entertaining.

Which is either amazing or ironic, considering that I can't bring myself to listen to Stern because he really offends my PC sensibilities with what he calls "humor."

The more I see Team 3D, the more I think that WWE made the right choice in letting them go. Bubba Ray looks like he wouldn't go to a gym if you put a buffet in the middle of it.

This doesn't excuse the WWE's preventing them from using their character names as the Dudleys, but they sure look like a "we had a legendary run, but now's the time to fuck off and take advantage of this company" tag team. They look, physically, like they don't deserve a title match, let alone the belts. And LAX is ultra hot right now; so, of course, 3D will win the goddamned belts because Russo didn't take his adderall.

I was thinking the same thing.

The Du-- ... Team 3-D lost it's charm. (Specifically, their weirdness.)

After a horrid show last week, I loved tonight's Impact. The first half anyway. Angle vs. MAVERICK Matt provided more wrestling than the entire show last week, and Raven's beak made me laugh. Team 3D showed more passion on a tank than at any other time in TNA, although when it first rode up with a pudgy, goateed white guy in it, I thought VKM was involved. Team 3D declared war on LAX, then they sang. This was great. The six-man tag was also very good considering how little time it was given (or chopped into by TNA's editing crew), and I like that AJ is now the chickenshittiest heel in the world. Mitchell's promo was fantastic, and he almost had me believing that Abyss could've lead one of wrestling's all-time great dynasties, but like Bullet Bob's proclamation of the 4 Live Kru becoming an iconic group in pro wrestling, it's a little too far-fetched to be believed. Other than that, it was a fine promo.

I was a little irked by the Borsah/EY segment, not for the birth control pills, but because Borash was waiting for Team 3D to enter the Impact Zone after they'd already come in, shown up on TV, and did... something to Konnan. The Tomko-Chris Abyss main event was an okay big man match, nothing was really done badly in it, and I was happy to see them protect Tomko so he can be taken seriously as Cage's bodyguard. The first half of the show was much more cohesive than the second, but it was a completely enjoyable show, even if a good deal of that was for all the wrong reasons. Reasons like Mike Tenay shifting through about 20 facial expressions in 10 seconds right before Don West said a single word to him, or the aformentioned Borash/3D thing.

Oh, and Petey turned face by showing himself to be a REAL HERO in Mike Tenay's eyes when he defied LAX, and they whipped his ass as a result. Also, Don West saying "THAT'S SO RAVEN!" ruled.

Apathy is what cause this...

And I was getting ready to do a Konnan topic anyway at the request of a few other posters.

I'll try to stop Guyver from doing a topic though, I hate Goldberg.

Ever since Russo came back to TNA it's been looking more and more like late-WCW. Seems as if the planets are all falling into orbit. Our modern day WWE's, TNA's, and WSX's are starting to look like our old WWF's, WCW's, and ECW's.

Edit: Actually I just noticed the irony in what I wrote... Seems as if the WWE of today is least like it's former version. :p

I'll send out my goons to spear you! Actually I think Goldberg should probably have a topic one day. If for no other reason, then how badly WCW mis-used him after building him up so much.

As we all know it really doesn't matter who headlines, just like the name of the OTT. Although, I'll make another topic if anyone tries to make an Umaga thread :bomb:

Alright guys, one of you needs to find the audio for this shoot with Angle STAT. Assuming it is real...

I was listening to the radio on the way home and Kurt Angle was on it. And lord, Angle was talking about WWE a lot... but this time it was awesome.

First, the guys who were interviewing him said that the Trump and Rosie segment was awful. Angle pointed out that the fans were chanting TNA during it.

Kurt Angle called Triple H and Shawn Michaels both long haired sissies.

Boogeyman was then brought up and Kurt said "Boogeyman eats worms because he can't wrestle."

And finally, this is the kicker. Angle said Batista is a horrible wrestler, and the worst since Ultimate Warrior.

And then the interviewers talked about Batista vs Booker and were saying how Batista couldn't even coordinate with him.

Kurt Angle brought up when they had a real fight backstage a while back. I'm sure you guys remember this. Well here's the nitty gritty that none of us ever got.

Batista was backstage in the lockerroom and said "I am the one carrying this company. I'm probably the best wrestler in this lockerroom. Booker is nothing." Angle said everyone was looking at him like "What are you talking about man? You suck."

So Booker finally goes up to Batista and tells him to shut his mouth or he'll fight him right now. And Angle said Batista just went out of the lockerroom and locked himself in another room for two hours straight while the rest of them cut their Summerslam promotion.

Batista finally came out and called Booker out... and Angle said Booker just knocked the hell out of him in a one sided fight.

The one thing that gets me is Kurt calls Batista the worst since the Ultimate Warrior. When I met Kurt we talked about how he hadn't watched wrestling at all prior to WWE's initial offer back in '96.

Kurt had no idea that Mideon used to be a pig farmer, he had to ask The Undertaker as he didn't believe me when I told him.

I just don't think Kurt would've seen anything that the Warrior did, so how would he know how bad Warrior was when he never wrestled him, nor did he watch Warrior? I know there's dvds and tapes, but still... can anyone picture Kurt spending hours watching Warrior matches?

Now, I'm not defending the Warrior here, we all know he wasn't a great wrestler, but what I am attacking is the credibility of this "radio shoot" so hopefully one of you can find it, and we can see if Kurt really doesn't respect HBK afterall, and assuming the shoot is valid Batista should probably start using Bitchtista as his in-ring name.

Hmm...perhaps. Then again, Warrior is a household name among non-wrestling fans in much the same way Hulk Hogan is. As much as I disdain the guy, *everyone* knows who the Ultimate Warrior is.

In addition, Warrior wrestled in WCW for a time after 1996, so some of his lousy work is contemporary with Angle. Lastly, the WWE does want newbies in the business to watch and study tapes as much as humanly possible, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Angle watching some Warrior tapes for pointers on intensity and...err...intensity's about it, I suppose. Angle, having a decades-long background in amateur wrestling, surely knows what a blowhard shitty wrestler looks like.

Besides, Warrior's poor wrestling ability is legendary...so what you're saying is akin to suggesting that guys today never watched Harley Race wrestle in his prime.

Then again, I think Batista is a big nothin' babydoll primadonna, so I'm bound by the alliance to my biases to believe the story. ;)

EDIT: Wanna play the slowest drinking game in the world? Take a shot every time Batista goes over the top ring rope. You'll be drunk in no time six and a half years!

I'm saying TNA and WSX seem to be more like WCW and ECW than WWE resembling WWF... (meaning current WWE is nothing like it used to be) I guess it was kind of confusing.

Playing with Fire?

That rules about the cancellation of the press conferences...although ANY time the fans force WWE to deviate from their tightly planned script is great. As stupid and weak as the VKM storyline is, if it causes more disruption and messes with Vince's head as much as it appears to be, all the better. I'm begging SOME company to force at least a little competition here. As much as TNA sucks, I can't wait for the upcoming night it's head-to-head with Raw if for no other reason than it will be great to be able to flip back and forth when one show has something on that I don't care about.

And just for all the "WHAT?!? Who authorized this?!?" posts about this topic being started, I'm going to do one.

SECOND HULK HOGAN ON BUBBA THE LOVE SPONGE REPORT: COMPLETE, DETAILED LIST OF WWE'S CLASS OF 2007 CANDIDATES FOR HALL OF FAME
by Shawn Ace @ 7:11:00 PM on 1/12/2007

I'm sure you probably got a lot of emails on this, but I thought I'd send another one. Hulk Hogan was just on the Bubba The Love Sponge show and was a bit drunk, and while he was on the air he got a phone call from Vince McMahon's secretary Ann Russo. She wanted to go over the list of names for possible induction into the Hall Of Fame this year. What she didn't know was that Hogan put her on speaker phone so all the names went out over the air. When he eventually told her she was on the air, she said she'd get in trouble and sounded rather shocked.

Anyway, the list of names were (I wrote them down as she
read off the names):

The Von Erichs
Ultimate Warrior
The Original Sheik
Ric Flair
Mr. Fuji
Nick Bockwinkel
Muhammed Ali
Mr. T
Mike Tyson
Howard Finkel
Jim Ross
Ken Patera
King Curtis
Ted DiBiase
Jake "The Snake" Roberts
Honky Tonk Man
Randy Savage
Dusty Rhodes
Dick Ebersol (NBC Executive responsible for creation of Saturday Night's Main Event)
The Wild Samoans
Big Boss Man
Bob Backlund
Rick Rude
The Bushwhackers
Rocky Johnson
The Brooklyn Brawler

Hogan was then asked to pick 10 names, and he said, "the names I pick go into the Hall Of Fame?" He then picked:

Big Boss Man
King Curtis
Dusty Rhodes
Randy Savage
Wild Samoans
Von Erichs
Rick Rude
Bushwhackers

Hogan then he picked Howard Finkel once he got off the phone.

He did say that was a "heat getter" and I can't imagine Vince will be too happy once he finds out. Anyway, it was great radio.

Shawn

Oh, Hogan. You're such a card.

What did King Curtis ever really do for pro wrestling? I only know him as Kevin Sullivan's "higher power," though I think he's from that same era as the original sheik who began the hardcore style.

If there's one person who I'd never ask their opinion of for the HoF, it would be Hogan. The reason why? He'd inevitably suggest Brutus "the Barber" Beefcake, which just shows that he has no fucking clue.

Interesting about the Warrior, though. I'd like to see that for the sheer comedy (which will happen whether or not he appears).

Part of me wants to recommend John Tenta...
