kotaku, what in the world does it mean?

does anybody know if the word kotaku means anything or is it just an acronym or random combination of letters? I did a quick google for it and couldnt find out anything, so i decided i would ask some knowledgeable CAGs.
 
as far as I know, it's the word "otaku" (hardcore anime fan in japanese) and the letter k.

Why is it called Kotaku?

Because Matt didn't get his way. Otaku is a Japanese word meaning unhealthily obsessed. In Japan, otaku are further sub-classed into being creepy crazy for either video games, anime, manga, or idol singers. In the U.S. it's been mostly associated with fans of anime and manga. We are told that using "ko-" at the beginning of the word instead of "o-" adds an additional connotation of small, but Matt is 5"10", which in Japan is lavishly vertical. So you see, it all makes sense.

I'm more interested in figuring out what the hell "hit the jump" means. Kids these days and their crazy lingo.

Except if you used the circle thing, it would not be a word at all. You can only use the circle thing for h/f sounds. So:
Without any symbols: "h/fu"
With the ": "bu"
With the circle thing: "pu"

Well, I figured THAT out, but... why don't they just speak English? I can't figure out where it came from, it makes no sense. I'd feel old if I wasn't positive that the writers are older than me.
