KOTOR or Ninja Gaiden?

Ebraum

CAGiversary!
New Xbox owner who can't make a decision here. I Like action games but get frustrated easily, I'm a Star Wars freak, but have never played an RPG. There is also a $20 difference in price. Should I just get KOTOR now and get Gaiden on the cheap in a few month's? Is either game right for me? Both of these games really look good .....help?

If you want to read a novel who some people seem to say is addicting, than get KOTOR. I personally was happy with one hour of playing and never picking it up ever again...
It has as much reading as Xenosaga has cutscenes, I thought it was pretty bad, and I don't get why nobody mentions this in reviews...
Ninja Gaiden is pretty good, but the music is TERRIBLE, and to me almost ruins the game, I'd say get Shenmue 2, you can find it for 10-20 dollars and to me it's by far the best XBox game out there, it does move rather slowly, but the story is engulfing and doesn't require reading everything, people actually TELL you the things you need to hear, you don't have to read 7 pages of text every five seconds...
Armed and Dangerous and Toe Jam and Earl 3 are very fun games as well, and if you haven't gotten Beyond Good and Evil for another system, XBox is the way to go on that one, and it's a terrific game...
But if you absolutely MUST have those two games, I'd go with Ninja Gaiden, but you do mention the price difference, and if you think KOTOR is worth picking up then go for it, I just think it's VERY overrated...
As are most XBox games...
The system is great and any multiplatform games that are released for XBox like the Suffering and Max Payne 2 always seem to be a LOT better...
But personally I haven't gotten excited over an exclusive since I've heard about Fable a year and a half ago, and now that's starting to look pretty whack too, but I hope I'm wrong...

I've got Beyond good and Evil for the Cube, and it is a great game. Basically I just want to take advantage of a few of the Xbox exclusives that I have been missing out on, ( I now have all 3 systems ) Had Shenmue ....snore.....for the......Dreamcast.....snore......oh...umm and Armed & Dangerous does look good, but I just picked up Halo and it kinda looked like more of the same( with cooler weapons ). I can get Gaiden for $39.00, so I guse that's just $10 buck's difference. Thanks for the input guy's.

A little off topic, but you must pick up Panzar Dragoon Orta. For the longest time, this and Dead or Alive 3 were the only reasons I held on to it. It took a long time before good games finally came out. Anyway, PDO is a definate must-buy.

Actually Armed and Dangerous is completely different than Halo...
For one it's third person action, and you have buddies fighting with you, a robot and a mole...
And it's just a silly game, lots of comedy and the weapons are great...
I'm a big fan of the Land Shark gun, where you shoot Sharks into the ground and they go around searching for enemies on the screen and eat them hahaha, a lot of people say the graphics are outdated, but they're fine by me...
I personally hate Halo, to me it's boring and there are hardly any weapons, and everytime I play with friends I get sick from the camera movement, I never took the time to play the one player game because I hated the multiplayer so much, and that's what everyone says it's all about (but to be fair, I've always hated FPS)...
And like hohndog said, PDO and DOA3 are good pick ups, for the 20 dollars you can find them at...
I still think DOA3 is the best fighting game out there...

It really comes down to whether you want an rpg experience(KOTOR) or a action game (ninja gaiden), both were really good

KotOR, by far. I spent an obsessive 50 hours on my first play through, then IMMEDIATELY started a second game when I was done. Ninja Gaiden is twitch gaming with a side quest in frustration.

i hated star wars for a long time
i really really hated star wars
then i borrowed KOTOR from a friend and played it
now i like star wars.
conclusion: KOTOR is amazing.
however, i haven't played ninja gaiden yet. and i'm pissed off, i was just at an auction and saw that and Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow for $35 each, but didn't have enough cash in pocket to buy either :x
This is easy - KotOR.
Agreed. Even if you've never played an RPG before, KOTOR is easy to pick up.

If you want a great game that will keep you occupied for a couple weeks go with KotOR. If you want a great game that is challenging and will keep you occupied for a couple days then go with Gaiden.

well after you get HALO and if your into rpg's (must get ) KoToR if actions your thing wait for gaiden to drop

Honestly there really arent too many good Xbox exclusive titles.
The only ones I can think of that are must-have Xbox exclusive games are Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the first one, it is pretty damn good) and Gunvalkyrie.

Aside from that, it is all pretty much meh.

The really good "Xbox exclusive" titles aren't really exclusive, except for their content:

Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams
Genma Onimusha
Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance

So yeah. It is kind of sad that there aren't too many good Xbox exclusive games out, even though I usually go Xbox when I am choosing a multiplatform game (unless it has special features available on only one system).

Honestly, the really good exclusive games are on the Gamecube (pretty much anything from Nintendo) and PS2 (Capcom, Square Enix, Konami).

Are you kidding there are lots of great xbox-exclusive games. Also, the same versions of Silent Hill 2 and MGS 2: Substance were released on the PS2 later.

Ok, Here's the deal. I traded in Need For Speed Underground and 2 crap games, 1 of them a Gameboy game and got $55 in store credit at GameRush. How that place stay's in business is beyond me. Then they had buy 2 preowned get one free and I got KOTOR, Armed & Dangerous, & True Crimes for $4.00 out of pocket.

Well you did a good job of pointing them all out.

Uh, Genma Onimusha is a horrible game. You can't even use the analog stick to control your character for Christ's sake. It makes you remember why they went away from the DPAD in the first place.

I totally agree wih you Go with KOTOR it's one of the best if not the best game for the Xbox . I also spent atleast 55+ hours with this game it's just that good .

Genma took me a good hour or two to warm up to the control scheme, but in the end I think it allows for somewhat more precise control. Your movements are relative to your character and not to the camera. So pushing left turns your dude left and if he happens to be facing the camera that will be to your right. So you can precisely back off and move up/circle around your opponent irregardless to how the camera moves. Although I guess you could also say if they had created a decent camera system they wouldn't have needed to use such a bizarre control scheme. (But this is one of those games with pre-rendered backgrounds and static camera positions, so changing that to fully 3D would have been like a completely different game.)

Don't get me wrong I do prefer a fluid camera and having the control stick move your guy relative to your view (as is the case in almost every game). But I gained an appreciation of Genma's control scheme (eventually )

As for KOTOR vs. NG. You already made your purchase, but I would have gone with KOTOR as well. They are both good games, but with KOTOR being almost half the cost, it becomes a no-brainer IMO. (There are quite a few Xbox games I would pick up for cheap before plunking down $50 on NG BTW.) My only hesitation would be that you aren't an RPG fan. Hopefully this one will do it for you.

KOTOR and Armed and Dangerous both sound cool, but a friend tells me that True Crime turns into a crappy survival-horror action game near the end.

They are both awesome games. I would say KOTOR because you'll want to beat it two or three times so you can get the full effect of the game...and it's like a different time each time. Ninja gaiden is very good though and not a bad choice.

If you get frustrated easily then don't touch Ninja Gaiden, I had no real problems with the diffuculty but tons did. KOTOR was amazing and worth a play, i'm on my second play through right now. I'll second, Crimson Skies was pretty good.

Get KOTOR now since it's cheaper...and I'd say the better game of the two.

Armed and Dangerous? That game is very funny, but I beat it in a day. A day. I'd estimate between 3 and 4 hours. If I didn't have it on that month-long Blockbuster thing, I would have taken it back and said it wouldn't work on my Xbox and could I please switch it for something else.

I have not played KOTOR but would recommend picking up NG.
I found NG a little difficult at first, once I got accustomed to adjusting the camera angle the game became a lot easier. I paid full price for this puppy and have no regrets. In my opinion this game lived up to the hype and deployed a thoroughly enjoyable gaming experience.

As far as Armed and Dangferous goes I'm playing this now and think this is also a good game. My son beat this in like 3-4 hours on easy. This may be better off as a rental because I do not really see much replay value in it.

The Land Shark gun rocks!

KoToR definately especially now because of the awesome price point..I saw it going for 24.88 at my local wal-mart. I bought my Xbox because of KoToR, I paid $50 for it and I never once have regretted it, it's awesome! I also was starting to really hate the franchise because of the new movies...but KoToR gave me a reason to like Star Wars again.
