Alright I was drinking Bacardi 151 and my laptop wanted a drink so I gave it to him but he couldn't handle it. So now I need a new drinking buddy (laptop).

If you had between $1500-2000 what would you get? I am looking at Alienware or Ibuypower. But up for anything and will be doing gaming on it. Before anyone suggests it I am not looking for a desktop right now because I will be using this for travel also.

Mods I wasn't sure if you wanted me to put this in the Build A PC thread, so you can move if needed.

Do not buy anything from iBuypower or Cyperpower PC. They probably pick up illegals from the street and get then to build their systems. Their systems are complete shit.

Check their reseller rating and their forum and you'll know what I mean.

If you want a cool laptop get a Sager NP9280, Sager NP9850 or an Alienware M17x.

You may want to compare prices between the 3 and see which one you'll like.

I would also dodge ibuypower, crap systems. Alienware is over priced by far, I'd suggest just buying something off Newegg.

Asus makes some decent machines, here's one from Best Buy. This one is also a good choice. Sorry for the cheesey looking graphics on the lid though.

haha I have a Cyberpower laptop and it works pretty well (bought February 2008). It's basically just a rebranded MSI laptop. It's pretty durable too, as it's survived two hard drops (while my roommate's Macbook Pro's screen cracks after a single drop onto soft carpet). Only problem is right now it gets pretty hot when gaming so I need to use a laptop cooler, but that's common among gaming laptops.

I have the one in the 2nd link. It's fantastic. Sort of wished I waited though since the the one in the 1st link has a gig of vid memory on the GPU and has a back lit keyboard (I'm a sucka for that).

Video Memory really doesn't add much. I have a Radeon 4870 and when looking up reviews found that the extra 512 megs I could get wouldn't be worth it.

I am drooling over those Sagers but they are out of my budget because this is an unexpected cost that I am already having a hard time swallowing the cost. The M17x is definitely in the price range but after seeing some of the other suggestions I would be paying too much.

I can't believe Best Buy even carries these laptops at these prices and I could definitely feel better about paying less and not dipping so much in my savings.
id check out newegg. with alienware youll just over pay. check out something like this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220538

$1800, if you can get a computer with alienware for that price and specs ill eat my socks.
You don't have to eat your socks but you would be surprised at how much the alienware laptops have dropped. I remember when you had to drop more than 2 grand to get even a decent one. That newegg one does look amazing and is in my price range.

Thank you everyone else that came to help out a CAG. I am still doing research and I will definitely look at these more closely and stay as far as way as possible from Ibuypower/Cyberpower pc after reading their ratings.

I would also choose Alien ware. You don't even need to look at anything but the prices and the brand names. (If your already spending that much cash on a computer your not going to be very happy if it breaks.) iBuypower has a terrible record for shipping broken or less than functioning computers. Alienware has been nothing but good.

So I went ahead and got the Asus one Hydro2Oxide (thanks again) suggested and it runs good but the only thing I am noticing the fan exhaust on the side is blowing out hot air. Is that normal because of the video card or should I take it back for an exchange?

That's normal and you pretty much get what you pay for.

I went to a couple of other site that had this laptop and they say it is common with this card and just get a laptop cooler so I will probably do that.

xcopy: other than the fan heat I have had no issues and tried Lost Planet with everything max and got a steady 30fps which I could only get with my old laptop at low settings and it had a 8400m what a joke.

I will be building or buying a desktop later this year for window 7 and the newer games coming out, this laptop was just a quickie to replace my damaged one.
