Whenever I turn my 360 on, my laptop turns on. Very annoying. I know it has something to do with the media sharing function. Anyone know of a fix?

If this is in the official hardware thread I apologize. I didn't want to sift through all those pages for an answer. I also didn't post in that thread because it has more to do with my laptop.

BTW the laptop is running vista.

What do you mean? The two are connected via the same network, but that's it. I still want the media sharing, I just don't want my laptop turning on whenever I turn on my 360.

go into your laptop bios(or nic settings, one will have it) and look for the wake on demand or wake on activity option. Disable it. What is most likely happening is when your nic card notices activity on the line, it turns on the laptop.

might I note that is an awesome feature I didn't even notice existed... but will probably never use.

WWWTTFFF.

I swear to god this laptop won't let me do anything with the bios outside of setting up boot sequences. I have a HP dv6000 series laptop with a Phoenix BIOS if that helps anyone. I swear I've hit every damn F button and no go.

I am having the same problem. Every time I turn on/off my 360 using the remote, the laptop comes on. I have a HP Pavillion dv6105 running XP if that helps any. I also am not using the media share function or whatever (my laptop and 360 are not hooked together or sharing).

Is it possible your laptops have a remote sensor that is the same frequency as the xbox controller? I have an hp laptop that is also turned on by an HP tv remote, but I think that is IR.

Or if you are using the media remote, that is probably also sending a signal to turn on tv's etc... that happens to be the same as your computer's code. You will probably have to tape over the receiver on your computer because if it is the same as my HP, there were no options to disable the receiver internally. If the remote has the option to change the signal it sends out, you could probably try that first.

Windows XP Media Center and the 360 use the same remote. There are lots of laptops (HP is one of them) that have Media Center features built in, one of which is the IR receiver. You might be able to disable the IR port in the BIOS if you aren't using it for anything, or if that fails, go to the Windows Device Manager and disable the port there.

There is probably an option somewhere in Windows, or in the Media Center app to change the behavior of the IR with respect to the remote, but I don't know where that is.

HP didn't put in an IR option in the bios, and the system devices don't show anything that sounds like an IR port, at least on my laptop. Plus mine didn't come with media center. That's why I had to tape over it.
