Maybe i will rebuy this now. I grabbed the 7 disc set from BB thru their kiosk in store pricing deal for like $30 but wound up selling it for $100 instead of watching.

That's just your way of showing off, isn't it? :p

Looks liek a good price, good series, ordered, thx OP

I would def. suggest getting in on that. I got the individual DVDs for $5 each and that was, and still is, a friggin' great deal for an anime of this quality.

gotta try right? i have also tried. anyone get canceled or anything?

Ordered one as well. I got it when it was on sale at bestbuy kiosk for $30 but sold it years ago for $80. Great series and a steal at $20.

Well just to give details. I believe this is the 4 disc rerelease that drops on may 5. The retail price is $40. So even if this is the wrong price, it won't go up too much. But half price still great deal, jump on it!

Any difference between this and the best buy pack that was selling at the kiosk for $30? Improved quality or anything? I already own the boxset but if this is any better i could probably make some money off of the old one.

If anything, the quality on this one may be slightly worse, since the original release was on seven discs, and now it's being compressed to fit on four.

Yeah, I was just wondering about that myself . . . At 625 minutes, that's over two-and-a-half hours of video on each disc, which is a lot for the DVD format. Could be a lot worse with that much extra compression, I would think.

Good find, great show. I got so far into it before but I think I either couldnt get the rest of the dvds or lost em or something. hope this goes through.

Yeah. I agree it will probably be compressed to fit about 6 or 7 episodes on a disc. But it shouldn't be horrible. Obviouly you won't be getting extra features but that is kind of the norm. This show is on netflix instant if u wanna watch it and not spend any dough.

I didn't realize that it was previously released with extras on more discs.

I'd be wary about 6-7 episodes per disc, so I decided to cancel my order.

They dont have to compress anything as a single dual layer disc can hold 240 minutes. Plus it is not like you are getting dolby 5.1 for audio

Funimation does good work on dvds, and they are probably dual layer anyway. Only time I've seen an anime company put more than 5 episodes on a single layer disc (aside from the 13 episode single disc releases like digimon) was with His and Her Circumstances. And there was some serious bitching about them putting it on 5 single layer discs, but that release ended up being not only excellent, but amazing.

10% off coupon: 138179

That's probably the best it'll get. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a free shipping code. But, it does mention that the 1.00 shipping isn't for orders soley comprised of Media. So... maybe there's some really cheap non-media filler to qualify for the 1.00 shipping.

Back to the 10% coupon, can anyone get it to work? It shows nothing when I input it, but if I put in a fake coupon code it rejects it for not being a valid coupon code.

EDIT: Found a stylus for my PPC 6700 and having it in my cart lowers my shipping to a 1.00. But, it's 2.99. I acutally need a stylus so I'm probably going to get this unless I find cheaper filler. It only adds about 70 cents to the order. It also showed 10% savings for the stylus, but not the DVD set. Sucks. There's gotta be a way to get this thing to 20.00 shipped. Thanks for the link, OP! This reminds me of when Overstock used to be relevant. :D

Um . . . All DVD video is compressed to MPEG-2, which is a lossy format. How much can fit onto a disc (and what the quality will be) is all a question of the data rate of the encoding. The more you try to cram onto a disc, the more it will have to be compressed and the worse it will look.

With a lot of anime, that might not matter. My biggest reason for concern is that Last Exile, in its previous incarnation as seven discs, had some of the best video quality I've ever seen on an anime DVD. Absolutely stunning in places. It would be a real shame if this version loses that.

Actually, Funimation has received plenty of flack in the past for sub-par video quality on their DVDs in comparison to their Japanese counterparts. Videophiles on the AnimeOnDVD.com forums have been complaining for years, and apparently their newer non-collection releases are finally seeing improvements in quality.

Well if you do decide to cancel it, you still can. The official release date for these sets is in May so there's no way they've shipped yet. They'll just refund you the amount that's already been charged.
Mine is processing and I've already been charged.

Not to worried about the quality though.
Mine was just cancelled. Already complaining to them as they already charged me the money and now I have to wait to get refunded from them.

my order just got cancelled . they took last exile off the site & said it'll be back on the site in 2 weeks. waiting for a refund.

After calling me up to cancel my order they have the audacity to send me a survey request:( I guess they forgot they called me.)

Regarding your recent contact with Overstock.com, would you please take a minute to answer a few questions? Your feedback will help us in our commitment to excellence.

I find it questionable that they charge you cc upon a pre-order and it takes up to 5 days to refund the money.

Hmmm.... odd, they haven't cancelled my order yet.
edit: I chatted with someone online, and my order has been "accepted", so I'm curious what will happen with this.

Thanks. I think I am going to buy it because of the cheap price, but still get it on Netflix Instant to watch it on my PC. ;)

I reported them to the BBB for the practice of charging you before shipping and then later cancelling and having you wait for refund. It's akin to the business taking a short term loan from you with no intrest.

Everyone should report them to the BBB for it just on principal. This is the 5th or 6th time they've done this. They are the only online retailer I know that charges you BEFORE they ship your items.

Lame. I guess Overstock is still irrelevant. Oh well. Sorry to hear your orders got cancelled, but at least I can stop being frustrated at missing out on the deal.

As shrike pointed out, there's not much we can do if it's in their terms and conditions. The best way to send them a message would be to just simply not buy from them until they get their act together.

I complained and they gave me a $10 credit. So complaining does work. Used it to order Darkness Comic Compendium for $30 :)

Besides just because they say they do something doesn't mean its legal. I can make a business and say I charge 40% sales tax. It's still illegal.
