Last Presidential Debate: Oh, why bother?
Just because you serve in the military does not mean you will be a good teacher. Those tests are there for a reason, old man. :bomb:
ya that was b.s... As the rep from troops to teachers told us when I was getting out.. its basically they help you get a job after you get your teaching degree.. Of course the places they want to put you in are all low income areas.

Awright, I'll say it: I think McCain won by a hair. Aggression plays well and it overpowers substance. It was great Obama didn't immediately answer McCain's "I'm not Bush" line with "You're shorter, but on paper, it's hard to tell the difference," but the turn-the-other-cheeck method doesn't look as good as mudslinging.
I call fiddle!
When I was in Philly earlier this year, a friend of mine was in the restroom when an unknown woman approached her, threatened to cut her throat, and then asked her if she wanted to be in her punk band (where she plays fiddle).

Still haven't been able to wrap my head entirely around that one.

My biggest problem with Mccain is that he would state the opposite of what Obama had just said...and act as if no one had heard what Obama had just said. He wasted his time during much of his campaigning repeating himself and attacking Obama, while Obama reiterated his plans and policies. I've already decided to vote for Obama but it's quite sad how Mccain has run hi scampaign thus far.

Wait, she joined the band?

I bet they put on a great live show.

I realize this was a typo and I'm not picking on you for it. That said, I really like how you stumbled into the word 'scampaign' and I think I'm going to run with it from now until the election.

'fraid not. The threatened cutting was a bit much, it appears.

You are quite welcome :) Be sure to quote/credit me ;)
aaah... didn't even bother to watch these guys doing the same s#!t.
I was in the same boat as you. I'd rather have some entertainment through video games. Which coincidentally, Obama said I shouldn't play anymore. Listen Mr. Obama, people like you are the reason people play video games. To get away from the shit.
Did Obama just ask kids to put the videogames away? WHY must he pander like that?
He uses this line in every campaign speech.
He uses this line in every campaign speech.
It's just because it's one of the only industries that hasn't contributed a ton to his campaign. I'm sure he's bitter about it.

Kids should put the videogames down. I don't consider it pandering. I never had time for gaming when I was a kid because I was always outside. It wasn't until I had my own place and a job that I started gaming again.

More or less. Nothing to get offended about.

Y'all probably wouldn't have skipped a beat if he said "put the big mac down, fatty arbuckle."

Y'know, it's not like he single handedly slandered all games or all gamers, but identified it as a risk factor in obesity. Which it is.

I find it funny that all of the negative ads from McCain were because Obama didn't participate in the town hall debates like McCain wanted too, poor baby .

And about the video game remark. All Obama was saying is that teachers can't teach a child everything at school. Parents need to owe up to the responsibility of raising a child by turning off the tv and put down the video games and teach your child something. Its become such a norm since tv was invented that parents just put their child in front of the tv put a movie in or turn on the xbox or nintendo and let the media be their parents or babysitters.

Now I'm not saying I don't like video games, I love them. I'm actually a video game desinger. However, I think that for children from grade school through middle school video games and tv should be a reward. I mean would'nt it be cool if a parent turned off the tv and sat down with their child and painted something or wrote a small story and then in turn let the child play some video games and told the child that if they work hard enough with those skills that they could make video games too.

So what I'm trying to say is that for too long our society has been stuck in a selfish "me first" state. We have to break free of this and think of the bigger picture.

McCain knows a lot about what he's talking about, and I think he could carry his campaign on issues alone (though I disagree with him on just about everything he says), but always slips into misleading and questionable rhetoric. Did you notice how condescending he got when talking about foreign policy and free trade in Colombia? Obama gave plenty of reasons why he took issue with the free trade agreement with Colombia, and McCain ignored all those points and repeated his same criticisms.

And the VP question as to why their VP's would be good choices, I've never heard so much BS about a candidate. McCain basically said he respected Palin and she's a hard worker, oh and by the way she popped out an autistic kid and so you can trust her to do a good job. Her children have NOTHING to do with her ability to be a good leader, or president, or anything else. That was one of the most important questions relative to his campaign and he completely avoided it. What a load of crap.

Socialist! Bigger picture? Not focus on the individual! That's gonna lead this country to ruin!

Ok, I can't keep that up anymore. I'm so sick of people saying "But that's socialism!" as if it's a 4-letter word. Bring on the free health care!

Is anyone here really caring about what Obama said on video games? Sometimes it's hard to tell if people are being sarcastic. Though it is ironic that he has ads in Burnout Paradise...

I think people are overreacting to the video games comment.... I can only imagine the backlash McCain would have gotten if he had said that same line. I agree with Ramza's point that all Obama was really saying was that parents need to step the hell up and be more involved with their kids, and I agree with him. Plus, kids focusing more on schoolwork than video games means less goddamn kids on XBL :)

I watched bits and pieces of the debate.

The wife got upset when I forced her to listen to one of John McCain's responses on health care. She just didn't care.

I was disturbed by John McCain referring to "transplants" as "gold plated" medical coverage. If my heart gives out in my 50s due to a congenital defect, I'll just fork over $500,000. If not, will McCain's kids dig my grave their father put me into prematurely?

Roe V. Wade. If you're deciding your vote over Roe V. Wade after more than three decades of no real change, you're an idiot. Hey! The Dow is dropping again and the economy is tanking. Is it really more important to ensure every child regardless of their birth defects or mother's health is born?
I knew Joe was real, but I don't know plumbers made over $250,000! I figured unclogging toilets was a lucrative trade, but not to that extent.
He was not telling the truth although he thinks he will soon.
Huh? Please do elaborate.
COURIC: Well, he supposedly will raise taxes only on people who make over $250,000 a year. Would you be in that category?

WURZELBACHER: Not right now at presently, but, you know, question, so he's going to do that now for people who make $250,000 a year. When's he going to decide that $100,000 is too much, you know? I mean, you're on a slippery slope here. You vote on somebody who decides that $250,000 and you're rich? And $100,000 and you're rich? I mean, where does it end? You know, that's - people got to ask that question.

----------

There is also a rumor he is either not registered to vote or a registered Republican and possibly not a licensed plumber AND he is related to Charles Keating via marriage.

This guy is clearly no brainiac and follows the same belief system as any other con drone, that combined with his asinine "Sammy Davis jr," comment makes me angry this guy got more mentions than Iraq in the debate.

I would bet that the company Joe it talking about makes 250k a year but does not turn a profit anywhere near that.
Businesses are not taxed on the gross, but on the net.

If he is taking $250K out of the company, how many millions is that company making per year?
Maybe we should ask Joe, although I doubt he has a clue.

Joe the Plumber is the perfect patsy for the next phase of the American theocratic oligarchy.

"To be honest with you, that infuriates me," Wurzelbacher told "Nightline." "It's not right for someone to decide you made too much -- that you've done too good and now we're going to take some of it back."
"That's just completely wrong," he added.
Wurzelbacher conceded today that he is not in danger of being hit with the higher tax rate. He acknowledged that he wants to buy a plumbing company for $250,000 to $280,000. That wouldn't be how much profit he would make from the firm.
He would make much less, he said.
Nevertheless, the plumber said people shouldn't be "punished' for success even if you become a billionaire.
"I don't like it," said Wurzelbacher. "You know, me or -- you know, Bill Gates, I don't care who you are. If you worked for it, if it was your idea, and you implemented it, it's not right for someone to decide you made too much."

So what's his feeling on these AIG execs wining and dining at hotels and spas on the government dime? What about all those people who create nothing and yet make billions and billions in NYC, only to be bailed out by the govt because they're too important to lose?

Bill Gates - Bill Gates! That guy stole his first OS and used a government-sanctioned monopoly to print money ever since - only recently has this started to change. Don't you hold up Bill Gates - how dare you!

The government does all sorts of things for rich people and their businesses from a swiss cheese taxation code to favorable bankruptcy protections. Damn right they should start paying more of their share, at a greater percentage then Millie from the Dollar Store who is rubbing her pennies together and trying to decide whether to dine on cabbage or catfood.

I'm going to make $250K a year SOMEDAY. I better vote for McCain so I can pay taxes on my health care all those years before I make $250K that first year.

EDIT: Wait! McCain is going to GIVE me a $5K check per year to buy my own health care. It'll cover everything unless I need something frivolous like a heart or kidney transplant.

So successful people should have to pay more? Even if they're taxed the same percent as you, they're still paying more just from that. Why would anyone ever punish success? When my kid learns to tie his shoes, should I slap him in the face?

As far as the government 'doing all sorts of things for rich people' get rid of them too. The government shouldn't be giving money out to anyone, individuals or business. Everyone should be perfectly capable of taking care of themselves, and if not, too bad.

So you're suggesting the government (in otherwords, taxes from everyone) should pay for those? So while I haven't been to see a doctor in 5 years, I'll be paying for everyone else's great healthcare? Ok, yeah, that seems fair.

I am really just getting into politics, I will admit that...

The McCain plan for health insurance is going to seriously hurt the country if it were to be put into place. I sell commercial health insurance for a living. I know that if I were given $5000 refundable tax credit that my own agency would flat out drop everyone off the gorup coverage.. The mentaility would be why pay for it if you can go get it for free.. the downsides and potential impact of that would be huge though, and in a negative way.

Clone? Drone? Chatbot?

No one takes you guys and your cut and paste little screeds seriously you know that right? Newsflash if you have not been to a doctor in 5 years (probably because of near poverty) there is little chance of you paying for someone else to go and gasp you might be able to go to see one and then I do not have to deal with you spreading anthrax around ala pigpen from the peanuts.

I might be wrong in this, but I think everyone's taxes should go up. Scaled according, of course, to compensate for the poor class being, well, poor. But we got ourselves into this deficit and it needs to be fixed. I don't know why we have such a high deficit. I thought we were supposed to be one of the greatest countries on Earth, not some slutty housewife who doesn't know when to stop using her husband's credit card.

Ok last update I promise, Joe the non plumber is also behind in his taxes by about a thousand or so and is being taken to court over it.
