Launch: The Airing of Grievances

Uh... what?

I wasn't being sarcastic. Also, when I posted that, I hadn't read the other replies, just the OP. I clicked the topic when there was only the OP, and then I left the page open for a while before coming back to it and responding.

Anyway, I just found it weird to see "you need the Classic Controller to play the virtual console games" when everyone else is saying you can use a Gamecube controller, and even recommending it over the Classic controller.

I've never held a Classic controller, but it would seem to me, from appearance, that the standard Gamecube controller would be better suited for N64 games than the Classic, and the Hori digital controller should be great for all the other systems (with the exception of Genesis games that needed the 6-button controller, but the Classic wouldn't be any better for those anyway). I don't see the Classic controller as necessary for anything, and IMO it's only there so people can have something to use that isn't "Gamecube" branded / will still be available after GC controllers are discontinued.

Luckily it seems this problem can be solved on the software end, so there might be a future online update to add DVD playback.

I doubt that will ever happen because then Nintendo would have to pay royalty fees for each Wii that downloads the update. I suppose that they could make the update something that you buy in the Wii shop, which would solve that problem.

I find it odd that a lot of you Nintendo fans were all "fuck graphics. It's about game play."

And than most of you are complaining about not being able to find component cables, which shows me that you do care about graphics.

Wanting the highest quality graphics the Wii can output and wanting Xbox 360/PS3 level graphics are two very different things.

I know that. But, if these people really don't care about graphics, than they should care less about being able to output at the Wii's highest quality graphics.

Lack of Weather and News on day 1. Sure I can get that info from just about every other media device there is a lot faster than I'll ever get it from the Wii, but I like little extras like that.

My problems:

-Should have packed in another controller at least. Maybe not nunchuck but at least another wiimote.

-Should have packed in at least 500 points for the virtual console to buy like the first super mario bros, which should have been available at launch. How many times have they repackaged this game now?

-Should have waayyyy lower prices for virtual console games. So we're expected to pay $5 per NES game when we could get Animal Crossing for gamecube and play all those games for the price of Animal Crossing? That's pretty weak.

-Virtual Console should have had more games. It isn't like they are developing new games, these are old games being repackaged. How hard would it have been to provide at least another 10-15 NES games at the very least?

-Needed more channels. So we get the Mii channel and the Photo channel and thats all? I'm sorry Nintendo but your shop does not count as a channel. If they were going to build up how cool all these channels are then they should have at the very least had the news or weather channels at launch.

-Pricing on everything. I am fine with the controller prices as they are, they don't really bother me as that's what all the time/money developing went toward. What DOES bother me is that the system is $250 for a short but good game and one wiimote/nunchuck. The system is barely an upgrade to the gamecube and that thing is like $50-$100 most places now. They've even admitted they are making a profit on the console. How hard would it have been to simply give us another wiimote and some virtual console points?

Anyways, all that aside, I love the system so far. Hopefully it won't have a lack of games coming up or I'll add that to the gripes list.

Bonk is red on my HD TV through my Wii through composite cables. Bonk shouldn't be red. Saying grafx aren't important is one thing. Saying Bonk shouldn't be red is another thing. The Wii's color palette is screwed up on an HD-TV using composite. That is a legitimate grievance.

No S-video, and being $50 more than the "sweet spot" price for me are the only complaints I have, and both are pretty minor.

Zelda is taking all my free time, so I don't care much about the otherwise lackluster launch lineups, or paltry VC selection for now.

Wanting boob physics, sweat, facial hair, and bump mapping != viewing something in the highest available quality

Is Mega Man a cool game? Heck yeah. Does it look like garbage running on an NES with an RF adapter? Yes. Does it look better running on a PS2 (Mega Man Anniversary Collection) with component cables? Of course!

Basically, stop trolling. Component cables, and the pursuit of peak visual quality, do not compare to superduper hi-def grafx.
The Wii desperately needs a Movie channel and a Music channel.
No, no, a million times NO.

That goes against everything that Nintendo is going for. The Wii is a cheap little thing that plays games and that's IT. Many of us love that, and hate the direction that Microsoft and Sony has gone.

It's got a fucking weather channel for christ's sake. Why do you want less features?

Who asked for boob physics, sweat, facial hair, and bump mapping in their games?

I understand that Bonk isn't red and Mega Man looks like shit with an RF adapter. If you feel that having the highest quality graphics a system to can output is good than this post isn't for you.

It's for the elitist assholes who had all this sigs like "I'll never get a HDTV" and "LOLZ GRAFX!" who act like if you want games to have good graphics that you somehow are less of a gamer than they are. My point is that graphics do matter, gameplay is what matters most, but shit graphics can make games less enjoyable.

Most of my complaints are with the things I was expecting. I was expecting to be able to find component cables in a timely manner, and I was expecting a better selection of VC titles. The news, weather, and web browsing will be bonuses for me when they finally arrive.

I'm also disappointed that none of the FPS games are using the nunchuk to control your view.

Lastly, I'm disappointed once again in the slow speed of Nintendo's interface to the internet. Checking for and downloading updates takes more time than it probably should, and I'm often shown an error message when I try to connect.

I predict that the weather channel is eventually going to be used more for integration with games than for seeing what the weather is like outside. I can figure out by myself what the weather is like outside.

Gamecube controller can be used to play VC games.
