Learning to Play the Drums

I've always wanted to learn how to play the drums and finally took the dive this Christmas with the purchase of an electronic kit.

I know basic drum beats and can keep time pretty well. I'm not very fast and cannot do double hits very well with both hands.

My question is, does anyone have any recommendations on how to progress from this point? I've tried to play along to songs or read drum tabs, but I'm not so sure that's the best way to go. I don't really want to get lessons from someone and ideally it would be some sort of video tutorial/lesson. There is some good stuff on freedrumlessons.com but there is a lot of it and I'm not sure where to start/what to use.

what do you mean by double hits? Ghost notes? That technique where you make an initial strike and let the bounce of the stick fall again to make another strike?

Speed is more a matter of stamina and strength than outright technique, which will just develop over time.
