I've heard that I can give my character to another player, or sell it... I don't want to do anything illegal, but I'd like to make money or have my character live on.

Unless you have a close friend you'd like to have it or it's stuff, I say just leave and don't look back. I had to drop it dur to lack of funds and it was just less of a hassle to just look away and hit the delete key on my computer and then move on with life.

I'm quitting because the game just isn't fun... people tell me to hang in there until I get to later levels, but after 80 hours I'm sick of waiting.

A scant 80 hours and you are sick of waiting?!?! Jesus, never played an online RPG before eh? Hell, the least amount of time I ever spent on an online RPG was 160 hours and that was years and years ago with PSO. I've only got 23 days (i.e. over 550 hours) spent on FFXI and I've only barely scratched the surface of much of the later half of the game. Seriously, how could you not have known about the gargantuan time commitment required to play not just FFXI, but any mmorpg??? 80 hours won't get you anywhere in any of them.

The problem with ANY MMORPG is the difficulty involved in getting anywhere. Yes it has thousands of hours of play time but unless you're willing to spend that much time to advance it's kind of a waste.

When you find yourself struggleing for 4 hours to find a decent group with just the right mix so you can advance one level because there are no monsters to fight that give decent experience in your current level range you start getting fed up a lot faster if you arn't already predisposed to the riggors of the exp grind.

In Ragnarok Online I could at least explore dungeons and get new jobs after a short amount of time.

It's more of the fact that for 13 $ a month, I could be saving for better games that give me a more fulfilling experience for my money.

With your 550 hours you could have experienced 11 or so RPGs with unique gameplay and storylines... I knew what I was getting into, but I thought the long ride would be fun.

That is why I quit the game. Everything in that game involves WAITING or competing with other players for limited farming space for little amounts of cash to buy overly expensive gear.

The fact that you can lose experience and delevel when you die from a simple mistake while you are partying is just stupid.

I've heard people over and over again rave how "great the FFXI community is", when in fact I found the community as a whole to be rather boring...all everyone wanted to do was grind, grind, grind for exp or farm for money earning items...no one wanted to just explore anything. Or quest and actually see some of the background story in the game. Plus half of the community is made up of japanese players who have no interest in partying or communicating with American or European players. Plus SE rarely bans anyone on that game...the servers are filled with higher level players who like to kill off lower level players by exploiting the game and training groups of monsters to them.

One of my favorite ingame minigames, fishing, was nerfed so that my main character can only fish for so many hours aday. It seemed like everytime someone found a way to make money crafting or fishing in that game, SE would nerf it so it became almost profitless and way too time consuming to do.

I've finally gotten to the stage of my life where I actually have the TIME to play MMORPGs that are timesinks, but this one is so blatantly awful I couldn't bear it after a couple of months. I have no problems with games that are timesinks...as long as they are FUN. But sitting on my ass in a town "looking for game" all the time is just a waste...and I played a White Mage, one of the highly wanted classes in the game! I don't see how some of the poor dragoons, darks, etc. managed it.

FFXI has got to be one of the most beautiful looking pieces of shit ever made by video game developers.

It's hard to ban people because it's not easy to prove malicious intent. If they banded people for training they'd have killed off half the population.

Leveling down is far less annoying than a corpse run. Also not as bad as experience debt. I think I got so screwed in City of heroes it was going to be easier just making a new character and starting from scratch than trying to wrk off the debt I had just because I couldn't find a mission I was strong enough to take and grinders/rare hunters didn't care if I got killed helping THEM on a mission.

I think every MMORPG has the grinders it dosent matter what you;re pplaying the longer it exists the more likely you are to run into these people, they've seen everything and read the strategyguides end to end, they have no desire to "explore". The japanese players don't mind playing with you most of the time but communicating with the ingame chat is a total bitch for them so the best they can do is just emote, emote, emote.

I personally think I'm done with fee based MMORPGs until I become retired and actually have the time for them, of course by then I'll have 5 - 10 new game systems and a crap load of cheap ass games to play through so I won't care at all.

Technically you probably can. I mean I haven't logged on for maybe 2 or 3 months but it knows my account is still there and asks me if I want to reactivate it. Supposedly your character will survive for 6 months after the point where you stop paying. But you might have to go through a few minutes of reentering information

I have to change my creditcard number a couple of months ago and I never bothered to tell them or formally deactivate my account so when I checked my playonline account had been suspended... I assume for non payment, dosent matter since I hadn't played for 3 months before that point anyway and their customer service takes for-freaking-ever to connect you so you can ask for a suspension in person (though I think if you still have the game installed you can cancel from the user interface)... but anyway it asked if i wanted to reactivate the suspended account.

I'm leaving FFXI as well, because it's just getting to expensive. What I suggest you do is sell all of your items and give the gil to one of your good friends in the game. That is what I did. Now I'm gonna wait until the month is almost out and just delete my characters.

My plan is to delete my content ID, and resign up every 3 months (that's how long they say their holding time is) to maintain my character... I can spare a dollar every three months, but I can't spare 39.
