I figured I'd start this since early demo access begins on Tuesday. Steam now has the ability to pre-load the demo available. I don't think many have noticed yet since I'm downloading at around 800kb/s. Anyways, figured I'd give you guys the heads up.

I didn't particularly enjoy Left 4 Dead in the first place, I don't particularly await for the 2nd installment.

L4D may be one of the best co-op games made. That being said, L4D2 (demo) really doent feel the same, it is the 2nd one so I guess it shouldnt be the same as the first. But so far (to me) its just not as good. It should be, but it so far i prefer the original. I have a preorder for the 2nd one, and right now I'm disapointed. I'm pretty sure I wil be in the minority on this but so far the new infected are pretty much boreing to me. The spitter i like and wish she could be put into the original. When i play it the "feel" just isnt there, and the new infected (specials) really feel like they had run out of ideas and just added some so they could have something new. I really hope the new levels make up for my -percieved- lack of fun. I may change my mind but an hour or two with the demo online and im done.. back to L4D.

I feel the same way and this is how I see it. The original L4D was dark and dreary ... it gave you that feeling of where the fuck are they going to come from. The updated graphics and the level design in the demo for L4D2 though doesn't have this feeling, I feel like I'm Bugs Bunny trying to jump on the head of Daffy Duck. In other words I think the graphics are what did it in for me so far ... just looks to cartoonish.

I tried the demo for the first time last night, and I have to say that I'm a little disappointed in how it turned out. It seems less gritty and focuses less on the horror movie aspect in order to bump up the FPS experience.

I do like the new special infected (as well as the changes to the old infected). At first I thought the charger was a waste of ammo, until it managed to grab me...

I bought the first for 360 and now that I've built a PC I was still shocked at the silky smooth frame rate and graphical effects. I was wary on the game but it managed to blow me away even if the demo didn't showcase any of the more extreme moments that I'm sure are in the game. 3/4 characters are great and the weapons are very cool. I feel pressured to pre-order but I'm not too sure whether I should wait on the game since I'm juggling quite a few right now.

Did anyone have an unusual issue where friendly fire on Normal was almost completely incapping survivors on the PC version? I had huge trouble getting 60 feet away from the start point.

I have yet to even play the first one online yet (though I've only had it a few months), but I'm still interested in this game. Probably going to wait for a sub $25 steam sale though, unless I jump on a 4-pack with some CAGs.

I've already done the 4 pack deal with some buddies so I got early access to the demo.
Anyway the 2 levels they chose for the demo were OK. But I've heard some of the other campaigns will be mostly at night the Parish is the only day campaign (quoted on the website I linked below).

Any of you guys try the vs mode hack yet for the demo? it gives a taste of what playing as infected will be like
here's some video I recorded http://www.xfire.com/video/18093f/

Anyways I can't wait to play this on Nov 17th so add me to your Steam list if ya wanna play!

Also, I found a really good website that has a lot of great info on L4D2 (including spoilers).

I read somewhere that the game might have a random day/night cycle, is there any truth to this? It could be kinda cool playing The Parish campaign for example, and then have it turn to night time halfway through one of the areas.

Did anyone else experience shutters while playing?

On the original you could turn off multi core rendering then the game would play fine.

I turned off multi core rendering thinking that would help but it was a no go, It runs like shit for me

I dont have shutters, but it seems kind of jumpy when I'm crouch walking. It seems like it lags behind for a second and then it catches up. It doesn't do this all the time either. I'm on a fresh install of Windows 7 too, so I don't think there should be anything conflicting with it.

Not sure about day/night but zombicidal.com mentions about controlling the weather
The AID2 can also control weather and other effects to completely customize the experience. This is especially true for the third campaign, which takes place in a marsh-like area. A lot of the map will be relatively open, so to make things more difficult, the Director can suddenly bring a harsh downpour that severely limits visibility, making it almost impossible to spot Infected and even teammates. Outlines won’t appear in the rain. According to Chet, “We’re giving it control over the weather now. Now you go from [a sunny day] to holy crap man, I can’t see anyone around me.

Turning off multi core rendering stopped the stuttering for me, however, I don't know if it's a bug or what, but the darn thing turns itself back on randomly. For example, I was at the menu screen and turned it off and then adjusted another video option while I was at it. Before starting the demo campaign, I then went back, and sure enough it was turned back on! I've gotten to the point where I turn it off, and then go back and verify about three or more times that it's still disabled since it loves re-enabling itself on me. I've noticed it's always enabled every time I launch the demo now, and sometimes it enables itself again after I've started the demo campaign too. Very annoying. Not sure if that's what's happening on your end, but figured it was worth mentioning.

Interesting, I guess day and night time doesn't really count as "weather" but that still sounds like a neat feature nonetheless!

Yep that was it multicore rendering was turning it self back on.
Wtf is up with that setting I hope they fix that and I wish the demo was longer .

Got the game pre-loaded and ready to go. If anyone wants to add me on Steam for the impending release then add adamska2020 to your steam friends. I have zero people on there and would like to play this with cags.

Been playing the Demo, SP-n00b style. Is it me or this game a bit harder than the first? I mean, it's a nice difficulty upgrade on normal, and I like the idea that witches are now free-roaming. Maybe I just suck royally and I just never noticed...

When L4D2 will go live:
• Monday, Nov. 16, 9 p.m. Pacific Standard Time
• Monday, Nov. 16, 10 p.m. Mountain Standard Time
• Monday, Nov. 16, 11 p.m. Central Standard Time
• Tuesday, Nov. 17, 12 a.m. (midnight) Eastern Standard Time
• Tuesday, Nov. 17, 5 a.m. Greenwich Mean Time
• Tuesday, Nov. 17, 8 a.m. Moscow Time
• Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2 p.m. Japan Standard Time

Apparently this is unlocking tonight at midnight. I figured Valve would open it up tomorrow in the afternoon like they usually do with games. This should be fun to play while taking a break from MW2.

Managed to snag this for $25 at Amazon! Unfortunately, my prime trial ran out and have to use FSSS instead, so I won't be able to play right away :( Oh well, I got TONS of other shit to play anyway.

Well, it's fifteen minutes late so that usually means it's going to be a couple hours late. I hope I'm wrong though because I really wanted to play it tonight.

Ugh, if it doesn't release within the next ten minutes I'm going to bed. Sucks, too, because I've got class all the way up until 5 PM tomorrow.

Ugh, Valve is terrible.
It's not midnight for me yet.. I have another hour left. :p
Nope, you should have gotten it. Valve said release times were at the same time, with EST being at midnight and those behind it (PST, for example, would be 9PM) would release simultaneously.

The end of the first campaign was awesome. Escaping on the
"General Lee" was great and I liked the getting to know each other dialogue in the elevator. Felt more natural than the first game. So far Ellis and Nick are my favorites.

Liking this more than I thought I would. The maps feel larger/longer which is nice. I also enjoy that for the most part, it seems like rushing in versus will no longer be a viable option due to that.

Aww, but rushing was half the fun in pubs. :\

Guess it doesn't matter since I have no plans of picking it up anyways.

Sweet Jesus I wasn't planning to get this game for at least a month but Goozex just matched me up with a copy today. I wasn't going to buy it right away since it seems a little weak for a full priced release... but Goozex has it at 600 points for some reason and with all my half-off points I only paid $15 for it. Apparently someone just bought a copy, lost the box and manual and then decided to sell it on Goozex. The guy has good feedback too.

Now I just have to get my replacement motherboard back on Thursday, rebuild my computer, and hope that was the problem in the first place. That or accept the 10 frames per second I get on my laptop.

Wait, this is for the PC version?
Umm I was not aware you could trade PC version of Steam games on Goozex because the Valve retail games are tied to your Steam account.
Still, if he has good feedback it's possible that happened, but I hope he didn't already activate the game and is trying to resell it..

He has 55 positive feed back and no negative so I'm guessing he isn't doing this. But yeah if he is I'll have to bitch to Goozex about it.

It's possible the guy just bought a 4 pack and is selling off extra copies in it, unless you are getting sent an actual game disc.

It's hard to pick a single great level in the game because they are all so good. I like the setup to Hard Rain with the backtracking and limited visibility but Dead Center is probably my favorite right now.
And I sent you a friend request on steam sinistar under adamska2020.

I've only played Dead Center and Dark Carnival so far but I am a big fan already. The additional variety with guns and special zombies are really nice and I loved the Dark Carnival finale. I played one game of VS also through Dead Center and while I already loved playing infected in the first game, it's now even better with all the extra zombies. Lining people up with the Charger is an art... I saw someone manage to charge someone through a window and off the side of a building which was pretty damn hilarious.
