Left 4 Dead - Gen. Discussion & Info
There are plenty of deals out there where you can get the game for like $50
Aye. If my connection wasn't such shit I would have D1'd this. It's not really that fun playing all the campaigns on single player but multi is a goddamn blast.

oh I can't stand single-player either... but then again I didn't pay full retail priced for L4D, and the price I did pay, imo, is absolutely worth the game.

If you don't have a good connection or just don't enjoy playing on-line.. then yeah this game is probably NOT for you.

The game lives and dies by the multi-player. I used some leftover credit and a gift card from erewards so I didn't really pay $60. But I'm happy with it. I enjoyed playing with friends and helping each other out as we're being butchered by special infected. The 1-player mode is OK for depth (probably 8 hours on normal difficulty....then add in achievements and harder difficulties if that's your thing), but it's not "go out and buy it this minute" good. That's all in the online.

And for the little bit of story there is, check out L4D.com. There are mini character bios on the survivors and little bits of information about the levels themselves. Not a lot, but I liked it.

Anyone up for some versus or campaign in about 1/2-1 hour (around 8 est)? I can't stand playing with random people. They never talk and always abuse FF.
So to the bottom line, is it worth $60 or not?
I think it's funny that there's always a argument about a new release game's value on CAG. That's why we have this site so we don't have to pay suggested retail.
Is it worth 60? Maybe for some yes, GS had a deal for 5 bucks off and I think there was an other deal that had it for 5 bucks cheaper than that (Maybe Amazon had it). So someone could of bought L4D for 50 which I think is a great deal.
The one thing that's upsetting to me is that there might be DLC and MS requires Valve to charge for the DLC when PC gamers get the expansions for free. Total BS. If valve wants to release expansions for free or at least at a reasonable cost (5 bucks or less) MS should let them.

I just played for about 2 hrs. Got through one of the 4 movies. Definitely one of those games that provides memorable moments in bunches.

Awesome and completely addicting game. IMO it's worth $60 even though I didn't pay that since i'm a cheapass :)

After playing this split screen co-op, I swear, this game can hear people talk.

On level with the train as the safehouse, we decided that the safehouse would be our fallback in case of horde, since the train yard so open. 10 seconds after we step off the train, cue tank music. We all haul back to the safehouse, thinking the tank wouldn't be able to fit in the door. We all get in, and see the tank coming. We all open up on the tank, thinking we're safe. Tank freaking busts through the door, into the train, we all die.

On the level with the boat finale...
After we cleared the inital neighborhood portion and started to move towards the woods, there's the big clearning. No one was in the clearning for some reason that time, and my friend says "No one is here... I don't like it. On three, leets just haul ass arcoss this field." He counts off, and I am the first to run. As soon as I take a step past the fence, a fucking hunter pounces on me.

And numberous other experiences.

Would anyone be interested in playing a campaign tonight? I beat the third one where you have to get to a plane so I'd be willing to play any of the episodes besides that one. I'll be on around 11est if anyone is interested.

Where can I get it for 50 bucks in Canada?

I was gonna hold off on getting it, but since my Walmart matched CC's ad with no restrictions, I got it for $20 (along with Gears 2 and Fallout 3).

Well worth it at that price.

Played some campaign tonight and I'm loving it. It's pretty nice that you can take a break and have the AI take over.

I'm sure this has been covered, but does L4D remember which chapters you've beaten?

I guess what I'm asking is can I play chapters in bursts (a chapter here, a chapter there) and still get the achievements for beating the movie?

No. You have everything unlocked from the beginning and there's no saving. You have to play it in one shot AFAIK.

I would be okay with companies developing more co-op-focused games, in the same vein as Left 4 Dead. L4D is perhaps my favorite multiplayer game this year. Speaking of which, when is the Crossing coming out? I expect it will also be amazing.

So do you have to be in the lobby to get an ach? Or like on Death Toll I joined right at the begining. Would I have gotten an ach if we were able to finish?

Weirdest thing happened to me on Versus last night.

I was knocked off the building on the fifth part of No Mercy and was hanging off the ledge. None of my teammates were around to help me back up since I was on that building that you get to the top of by ladders that overlooks the helipad. Suddenly, one of the opponents playing as a Hunter comes up and starts to attack me. So, I was pretty much screwed to begin with, but now this Hunter is going to town on me.

Here's where it gets weird. The guy stops attacking and the white bar on the screen for helping people comes up. He actually pulls me back up as a freakin' Hunter. So, I'm standing on top of that building, wondering what the fuck just happened and watching the guy run off to take care of my teammates. I know 100% that this guy was on the opposite team because all my teammates were friends of mine and he pinned me down about two minutes later when I ran off to help.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?!

Do you guys recommend playing this game in 1 or 2 hour bursts, or 5 to 6 hour periods?

I played the demo and seemed to enjoy it for 1 or 2 hours, then turned it off. The next day, it was fun for another 1 or 2 hours again, and repeat.

It depends if you're playing alone or with people. I don't think it's possible to play L4D with people for a mere one or two hours.
Depends on the company.
Indeed. A potential all-nighter can turn into absolute shit if the company is extremely poor or quiet. Hell... I was planning on playing tonight but I'm tired of randoms who either have no idea what they're doing or in their own little world with no interest whatsoever in teamwork.
which is one part of this game that sucks.. especially when your 3/4 through the chapter and the host drops....fuck that sucks!
That happened to me last night on Blood Harvest. I got dropped RIGHT as we called the rescue in...lame. I had to play the whole thing over again to get the cheese-mint.

Also, if you haven't beaten all the movies yet and you have good people playing with you, that could definitely turn into several hours and not just a 1-2 hour burst.

If you're playing versus with a good group of people, you could play that for even longer.

I really hope Valve "unlocks" the other two campaigns for use in Versus mode for free. No Mercy and Blood Harvest are fun, but I can only play them so many times.

This is the type of game where I would never play with randoms.

anyone up for a game soon?

I have been really busy and haven't got more than a couple hours logged in since the first few days.

Surprisingly enough I ran into plenty of worthwhile randoms during the demo and the first couple weeks of the game, but now? Tch... the luck well ran dry. ;'(

How soon? I wouldn't mind a campaign after Dexter (10 EST).

I always find atleast one person that is pretty cool when I play with randoms.
Its always 2 12 year olds and one cool dude.

I got a lobby up if anyone is interested>...

@eswat - rofl at the hip hop witch, I actually got that dvd, it's pretty bad except em's part.

I somehow always end up playin with people high out of their mind. I can never get anywhere on expert because people are too dumb or just don't talk or a combination.

Add me if you wanna actually make progress in expert, I know I do.

Ironically, I'm starting to not like playing versus with people I know. Shit gets way too competitive, and you end up spending more time bitching at each other after the game has ended than you've just spent playing...

Oh I am definitely adding you asap. I haven't beat Expert since the demo and that was barely the middle of the first No Mercy campaign. I took Gare up on his lobby yesterday and we got our asses handed to us on Expert because the CPU teammates are infuriatingly retarded (as I had warned him but we both couldn't pay anyone we knew to play with us). Random Tank and strategic Witch placement for the lose. Hell... after we had fought our third one the music for the fourth never popped up. He was just STANDING in the only exit out of the damn Dear Air office building where it's child's play to get pinned down.

Even after we switched to Advanced those idiots were STILL making our lives miserable e.g. reopening doors when we knew hoards were coming in and stealing health packs to heal themselves with. Ugh. I lost count of how many times I had to literally kill Zoey because WE needed the health more than her. :bomb:

I will NEVER play the single campaign of this game unless I'm bored out of my mind.

I've yet to play this online, but I'm definitely up for it - I probably suck compared to most, but I'm at least good for a shotgun and a pipe bomb to clear out a room. If nothing else, I'm pretty delicious zombie bait.

I can deal with sucktastic people because I'm not that great of a player myself, but I know enough of the basics to make for a well rounded support member of a decent team (always try to melee out of a horde swarm, melee special infected off of teammates for a quick break + to avoid friendly fire damage, melee hunters to dodge/avoid getting pounced, save secondary weapons + ammo for hordes/Tanks/Witches on higher difficulties, crouch when taking point to avoid FF DMG, etc.).

I plan on playing a few campaigns later tonight so if anyone thinks they'll be available today let's schedule a time and get a lobby going.

If anyone playing later needs another guy, feel free to shoot me an invite.

Gamertag: bergponch

i'm generally on weeknights EST if anyone needs any more ppl to play with. my goal is to beat expert difficulty so add me if you need some a reliable team-oriented L4D player on your friendlist!

btw - it'd be cool if someone started a CAG L4D account or something that we could all add to our friendlist. that way we can just invite those guys on the list to our games when we're looking for people...

Wow, i didnt know about CAGL4D account but I will definitely add it to my friends list

My wife gave me L4D for my birthday this weekend. Seems like a fun game even when I tried out the single player campaign on Normal. Hit me up if you want to play. I'm on most weeknights after 9pm CST. If you're sending a FR, please note that you're a CAG so I know who you are :)
