Left 4 dead warning

CAGiversary!
most of the time when i play for awhile it says warning OS or OP Paged Pool memory low then like 30 minutes later it exits the game, how i get more memory. i tried one thing and my computer almost crashed good thing i saved it but what do i do?

Quit downloading porn in the background?

Seriously, it sounds like either:

1. Your PC doesn't have enough memory (RAM) for the game. How much RAM do you have and what OS are you running?

2. You have too many things also running alongside the game that's taking away from the available resources. Try closing all unneeded programs while you play and see how much that helps.

i have nothing open and where do i find RAM memory? and where i find what OS?
i have a Dell
and how i clean up to get more RAM is that to just remove programs or what?

To figure out what OS and how much ram you have go to your start menu (lower left corner), press run, type 'dxdiag', and press enter. It should list it out for you. To make more ram available you have to close programs or lower the settings of the game. Uninstalling programs won't do anything.

That used to happen to me on tf2, the paged pool memory error. I had to cut out a few things from my startup to get it to go away. What are your computers specs (from dxdiag)? I am able to run the game fine on my somewhat dated machine.

Most likely you are bottlenecking your computer

Post what Dell you have most of those use slow ram and integrated video
You need to feed it more megahertz. Use the DVD-ROM drive to put some more in.
how...

Maybe run msconfig under run under the start menu and disable a few of your start up programs such as quicktime, any aim program, etc. Be careful here u can f-up yr pc if you dont know what your doing

Don't run instant messenger or annoying tabbed media players that are down in yr toolbar.

Defrag your pc

What sort of video card do you have?

turn off your antivirus when playing a PC game...espcially an offline one

i have Norton, where in there does it say turn off?
i have Dell
Microsoft Windows XP. Dell Dimension DIMC521
says i have 960 MB of RAM.
how i get more!!!
Okay I think I see a few problems here. My girlfriend has the same computer, and it is nowhere near up to snuff to run newer games, such as L4D. You might have a dedicated video card, but you probably have the model with the integrated video on the main board. Even if you could get the right parts to run it (memory, new video card), your PSU is only 280 watts.

Your best bet is to save up your pennies and get a reasonably priced gaming PC rather than dump money into this one.

when i turn on my computer aim comes up and msn and i exit both of them and i'm not signed into them at all do they still interfer with the game?...i think the only think that runs is prob norton...

Try installing your copy of the game in your toaster, it probably has more power than that POS computer you're using.

NORTON?????

Well, there's your problem there....that bloated POS!!!!

usually you can right click on the icon in the tray and it'll have some type of shutdown command...

i put my paged pool memory to medium in l4d it was usually at low, now i think it goes all laggy, should i keep it at low or medium
and how i turn off my norton?

also what is film grain?

Wow are you pc illiterate? J/k Go to your control panel and uninstall Norton. Then go to download.com and d/l AVG anti-virus or Antivar, both of those are good and aren't resource hogs. Also did you run msconfing under run in the start menu, click the startup tab, and post a list of programs so we can tell u which ones to disable when your pc boots up

just go to amazon and buy new ram.

Or save everyone the trouble and get an xbox

otherwise just hit ctrl+alt+del , and then end task and close out anything youre not running as well as kill any processes affiliated to those apps you just closed.

If you already increased your pagefile/virtual memory and cleaned out your tasks and still crashing then you're just going to have to buy more ram. Its relatively cheap these days and it looks like you NEED IT anyways. Good Luck

No, it will only close out the item you have currently selected.

Film grain is exactly like it says, think about watching a vhs tape on a vcr.

Just buy a new computer. You have less then 1GB of RAM for heavens sake. For about $400 you can get a cheap one on dell.

That was pretty cool haha :)

I think you need to buy a book on basic knowledge about computer. Many of the processes outlined in this thread are just basic knowledge.

Is it odd that when I read the Op's post I hear:

Op: You need to learn about computers. You dont have a gaming machine. I would suggest getting an xbox and do your gaming there. You will have much more success that way.

dan it makes me sad to know you have this problem to get more ram u have to go out and buy a new ram thing i use a 2 gig urs is very low which is y u have this problem
