Let's discuss Magic (the Gathering)!

Alright, here are the prices (all of which include shipping) of the highlights of my collection:

3x Birds of Paradise (8th Ed.) - $9 each, $25 for all three
Masticore (Foil) - $35
Rukh Egg (foil, 8th Ed., prerelease) - $4
4x Troll Ascetic - $7 each, $25 for all four.
46x Unhinged cards (total, 30x unique) with cards from all colors and Ass Whuppin' (foil, prerelease) - $6 (add $2 for shipping due to bulk)
Wrath of God (one 4th Ed, other has no symbol) - $8.50 each, $16 for both
Yosei, the Morning Star (Foil) - $15

I also have tons of common and uncommons which I will be willing to sell in bulk.

 
Ill take the unhinged cards for 6$. Also, how much for the bulk? I wanna buy the bulk how much is that?

Also, if no one wants the rare's could you put that in hold I have a friend who could be interested.

As for the rares, which might he be interested in (of the ones I posted, by no means are those the only ones)?
 
What sets of uncommons do you have? I have a lot of old ones and I was hoping if you had some like some mirrodin and above sets.

The last set that I bought from was Fifth Dawn, btw, so I have nothing newer than that.

haha this became a buy/sell thread.

anyhow, i was really into the tournament scene when i was playing. i started way back during the dark or so just because my friends played. i started playing tournaments during mirage block and played PT Chicago '97 and Nationals '98. After that I'd just play for money and sell my seat if I got to the finals of a PTQ.
 
Dang what type of deck did you play with ? Dont take every common/uncommon.. he has :cry: I want some mirrodin ones and some onslaught :bouncy:.
 
well i qualified for PT Chicago with a sandsipoise (sands of time + equipoise) lock deck in mirage block constructed. there wasn't a way to break out of that lock in that format really.

then at chicago played a R/U/w control sort of deck with frenetic efreets and a rainbow efreet being the main offense and blood moon from the sideboard. that was the first extended tournament. that blood moon owned a ton of europeans including 3 members from team netherlands and jakub slemr. i made day 2 with that deck.

i won regionals in 98 with a 5 color red deck. that was the year everyone was playing 5 color green with like tradewind riders and birds of paradise and stuff. so 5cr owned them because it gets granger guildmage online more consistently as well as using stuff like the the goblin you can sac for 1 damage to a target. the secret tech in that deck was firestorm, since you could ditch your hand to wipe their board since tradewind riders are so creature dependent. also ran barrow ghouls for heavy damage since you have so many creatures in your grave all the time. and of course you still have river boas and other good creatures that 5cg draws from. disenchant in the sideboard for prospbloom which was pretty big that year too.

I'm quite terrible at draft, so most of the time we play constructed. (My first and still primary deck is a squirrel deck.)

For draft, it's hard for me to go between sticking with good, consistent cards for my draft deck and taking neat-o rare cards for keeps. Luckily, my friend got a box, so we're going to draft with his cards, so hopefully I'll do better since I won't worry about keeping any of them. I used to just buy packs to open, but now I've learned to use them for other formats (mainly sealed). My coworker (who's hardcore into drafting and whose box we're using to draft this weekend) hates it when I just open packs. He usually rants about how this booster would have been good for draft. Now I usually play sealed with new packs, so he's happier that I don't waste the opening of the packs, I guess. As a result, I'm getting better at sealed, and hopefully I'll eventually get better at draft.

Okay, I've been out for a while, what's draft? And what are they new cards that have fungus like the old thallids from fallen empires? I got started in Revised and wished I kept those cards.

Can any of the old stuff be used in tournaments or are they still dicking around with that? What I hated was when you weren't playing a tourney against someone new and they'd complain you were playing with a band card. Sorry, I bought the card, I'm gonna play with it, and we're not in a tournament!
 
(booster) draft is a fun format where you have (usually 8) players each open a booster pack of cards. you pick one and pass it to your left until you have drafted 15 cards. then you repeat for the next pack, passing to the right, and then passing to the left for the third and final pack. then you add whatever land you want and make a 40 card deck.

the strategy is in balancing between forcing certain colors that you like to draft and playing what's passed to you and also weighing any bomb cards that you might open in your pack.

there are several legacy formats where you can play your old cards and they're not 'band' haha.

I used to play but got out right after mirridon. I still have a 1800 rating in limited and played in the TS prerelease. If I did start playing again it would just be on apprentice since it is the cheapest way to go about it.

btw, have you guys ever drafted the Un-sets? We drafted Unhinged once because it's uber cheap (like $40 for an entire booster box), and it was really hilarious and fun (but man, fucking Cheatyface). We still have half a box left for when we get sick of regular MTG.

Thanks. And thanks for checking my grammerz. When did drafting come around? Also, is there anything special you have to do for "legacy" or is it depending on where you play that'll let you play that way?

Yes, I bought 2 boxes of unhinged which I drafted with my friends...
They don't want me to buy anymore of it. :lol:
(I tend to build weird draft decks based around some sort of combo or other weirdness, so playing a set that directly caters to that oddness makes me do somewhat obnoxious things)
 
Does anyone wanna sell the unhinged lands? I want some they look awesome. :bouncy: Also, anyone with some commons and uncommons from ravnica and up?

as far as "legacy" is concerned, if you play casual then you can play with whatever cards you want. the most casual players tend to be at schools. i've seen guys playing in my cafeteria with all kinds of crap cards from now and years ago. if you go to a local card shop, they're more likely to be more "amateur" than "casual."

"legacy" and "vintage" are tournament formats. you can search for them here:

but be warned, these will be people playing serious decks that will kill you before you've drawn your first card about 30-40% of the time.
 
When I was playing, I had some crazy combo... I forget what it was. It revolved around Megrim and some other Black card, forget what it was. The basic idea was to mess with how many cards the other person had to draw, making them get so many they had to get rid of what they had before, then doing damage to them for discarding, and I think something for the cards they kept in their hand. Kind of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" combo.

It was really good. I won a few choice cards for it back in the day, and some nice prizes. For like a week way back, I wanted to go to Magic camp. Oh man, I was a nerd... Who am I kidding, Guild Wars is like a live-action Magic... I'll never be out of the nerd woods.
