LET'S MAKE FUN OF THE SPIKE VIDEO GAME AWARDS!

I mean for Christ's sake, like the general populus doesn't already have an skewed perspective on video games. Then this gayness comes along and further degrades video games in the eyes of the general public. SHIT this seriously pisses me off.

Sorry, just venting.

I really think they ran afoul by not cutting the audience microphones when showing the game previews. It's just absurd to see the Brando-clone reciting his famous Godfather monologue while drunken buffoons hoot and holler throughout.

I think we can infer that the audience is jazzed to be there; we don't have to hear it every second.
Roy Jones Jr is on again!!!! This is great!
I sort of hoped the GTO would have ran him over this time.

EA is making a Godfather game!? Nothing is sacred! Burn, EA, burn!!! Francis Ford Coppola, you better not have approved this. (I'm sure he uses this site).

He uses it all the time he was very active in the CC $5.00 game thread.

We're all cracking jokes about this vulgar display of crappiness, but it genuinely pisses me off. It promotes a, for lack of a better word, gay (not in the literal sense) image of videogames. A whole bunch of second rate pop culture asshats raping the REALNESS out of something I hold dearly, videogams. Most of these jerkoffs don't even know a damn thing about games. The only game they ever played was pong. God this is gay.
I totally agree. But what's done is done. Let's send a message to these fucktards that we as the gaming community DO NOT agree with their representation of us. Any ideas???
I'm tempted, I would if I thought it would even get read. Glad to see that you're also upset by this travesty.

Unfortunately, this sort of display is just a byproduct of the mainstreaming of gaming as a culture. As a hard(er)core gamer, I'm also miffed by some of what I'm seeing in this show as a depiction of what 'gamers' are. But you've just got to let it slide sometimes. The same is true of anything, music, movies, media in general; there is far, far more money to be made by appealing to the mainstream in any medium than there is in catering to the hardcore.

The Oscars prove it every year, and we'd be foolishly naive to believe it would run counter to that line of thinking with videogame awards.
Man I'm glad I didn't watch it tonight. It probably would've made me sick to my stomach.
I'm sure it would have, that's what it did to me!

Yeah, I understad what you're saying, its unavoidable at this point. I just wish they would have the decency, not to mention the sense, to make the whole production a bit more professional, so they don't offend the real gamers, and also turn off those who know little about gaming.

Un-Intentional comedy update

Right at the beginning of the presentation for Half-Life 2 as GOTY nominee.

"I like Half-life2 because it's a continuation of Half-Life"

OMG! So, that means TY 2, Tak 2, and Backyard wrestling 2 can be GOTY nominees too?!?

At least Danny Masterson did a passably natural-sounding reading of his TelePrompter. He didn't sound like he was reading; I wish more of the presenters had followed that idea instead of just coasting.

what a promotional sellout. I bet that less than half of gamers like rap. I didn't like any of the GOTY's nominees they had. and GTA:SA won everything, big whoop. they interupted it for like 5 minutes to show some stupid movie preview, uh it was about this super hero woman, I forgot the name, it looked really bad

Raekwonthechef, Funkmaster Flex's intro of Danny Masterson speaks volumes of the mainstream view of gamers and their priorities:

"While his costars on That 70's Show were out dating Lindsay Lohan and Mandy Moore, HE was playing VIDEOGAMES! It's Danny Masterson!"

I'm going to guess Funkmaster didn't write that intro himself. Just going out on a limb there.

exactly, and because of this, games that that might be highly praised by the cag community may become overshadowed, because of the little exposure that they get to the mainstream.

Honestly I ended up falling asleep while watching this, they kept promoting MC up next, over and over at each commerical...so luckally in addition to missing the first hour, I got to miss some of the 2nd half too :)

Why isn't there a crying emoticon. It's the only appropriate one at the moment.

This is true, Firebrand.

I don't mind that, though. As long as it evolves and improves from year to year. To their credit, SpikeTV seems to be taking suggestions from gamers on what worked and what didn't so they can tailor future shows to better meet all tastes.

With the exception of the poster who wanted David Spade back instead of Snoop, I've yet to read that anyone liked last year's show over this one. Which means it's getting better. No, it's not GOOD yet, but it is BETTER. And that is something, no?

I think I just pinpointed the best acting of the entire show, and it belongs to Mr. Sam Jackson himself.

Allow me to explain:

While the bigtime award shows (Oscar, Grammy, et al) have enough clout and industry cache that all nominees show up in case they win, these smaller shows make a point of tipping off winners so they'll actually show to collect and give a speech (MTV pioneered this, wherein you can tell winners just by cataloguing who you actually see on the red carpet pre-show).

Roy Jones flubbed the announcement of Burnout 3 as the winner of some award, never even actually saying the name of the game nor the developers, and yet the smiling faces of the Burnout 3 team came bouncing up to hug and high-five Jones.

Meanwhile, Kelly Hu announces Sam Jackson as the winner in his category (not to mention our quickly cutting to the view from the camera that's already been in Jackson's face for just this moment), and he looks genuinely surprised to have won.

Give the guy an Oscar; bravura performance.

(to avoid confusion, etch 'Bad Mothaf***a" on his statuette at the Oscar ceremony)

Wow. That Michelle Rodriguez, the way she speaks at a normal volume, and then screams random words and phrases of her intro for Halo 2...

...she's so hardcore. What anger. Yawn.

Ol' Vin Diesel's acceptance speech could have been much shorter had he just gone with his original draft:

"Welcome to the Xander Zone!"

...plus, he owes me a six-second car.

Maybe this is just my differing tastes, but...

Game Informer? GAME INFORMER?!?

The fan choice for favorite game publication is Game In-freaking-former!?!?

No thanks. I'm just assuming none of the "fans" who voted have ever seen a copy of EGM. Or of Black Tail.

Kidding, on that last one.

Still my heart.

Gabrielle Union is more and more lovely every time I see her.

Man, oh man.

Shame that she has no idea what she's talking about when describing Snake Eater. But hey, at least she pronounced Hideo Kojima's name correctly. Score!

Ahh.... Gabrielle...

god i hae the reaction these ppl give madden....they are all brainwatched....the reaction to 2k5 was kinda lame.....ita funny how they had that recording ready..

blow me madden

Is anyone still here other than Guyver and I? Shout out if you still feel like pitching petty bitching at the show!

I don't want to speak for you, Guyver, but it's more fun if there are more counselors at Camp Piss'n'Moan.

AAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! I just turned over to Leno and Celine Dion was singing! My ears are bleeding! Make it stop! MAKE IT STOP!!!

The "Drop It Like It's Hot" performance is so perforated by censored silent-blocks, I thought I needed a freakin' Miracle Ear.

Snoop and Pharrell changed some of the lyrics so as to avoid the censors; why half-ass it? Either sanitize it or don't touch it.
game informaer has come a long way....egm is not as good as it used to be...but i did vote for gi
After the whole Paper Mario 2 thing, it saddens me to hear that.

Oh. I missed the Spike Video Game awards? darn. Gee.... i shoulda done that instead of playing prince of persia on my new xbox. um... how 'bout no?

...1...

msdmoney, please elaborate. What Paper Mario 2 thing? Do tell.

Oh, and to Xtreme331: good point. I only watched to see if it was better than last year, and because I just needed a break from San Andreas.

Spike TV should have made the developers compete in MXC challenges to see who won the awards. I'd love to see those Burnout 3 guys competing on the Rotating Surfboard of Death.

WittyNickname how did you remeber your password after signing up a year ago? And how did the Spike tv awards motivate you to start posting en masse?

Each time I see or think about the ghastly, ghastly, ghastly Hot Girls Reading Cheat Codes segments, I know what it must feel like to be chemically castrated.

I want to see that bit again like I want to see the Snoop challenge Pharrell to a makeout contest.

Katamari lost!!! NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I refuse to watch it, but did they pronounce it right? What did it lose to, and in what category.
I think they pronouced it Kamatizzle for Damizzle ;)

One word sums up this boring mess of an awards show................................

CRAPTACULAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Howzit, Starman.

I never posted in any social capacity in my first year; I only went to the "Game Deals Wanted" and asked if anyone had leads on games I was looking for, hence only seven posts in a year.

I'll shut up if my sudden post-a-licious nature is annoying.

Otherwise, I'm just enjoying watching the show and posting random crap in tandem. Cheers.

Oh, and the word Frankie Muniz is looking for is 'menage a cinque.' BOOYAH!

...pretend that booyah isn't there. Please.

It's a commercial awards show? What were you people expecting? Things such as the hot girls reading cheat codes was meant to be rediculous... and even the academy awards have musical preformances, it just adds an extra reason for people to view the show.

Sure I didn't agree with all the nominees but for this is a show that is supposed to reflect the preferences and opinions of all gamers and for the most part it did exactly that. The other complaints about presenters who aren't prepared and stupid acceptance speeches pretty much apply to every award show... bottomline I thought it was entertaining to watch, but unlike most of you here, I didn't go into it with a critical outlook... so perhaps that's the reason for the difference of opinion.

I won't speak for anyone but myself, joeposh, but I'm mostly tongue-in-cheek with my rantings against the show. I can't honestly say I felt my time was wasted watching it.

As for the fact that the complaints about the nature of this show are true of most awards shows... also true. But that doesn't mean it isn't frustrating to watch, nor to realize how few awards show producers seem to care enough to push beyond it.

Try not to trip over my soapbox on your way to the bathroom.
