Let's predict games out now that will be worth $200 in 5 years.

As for games that will be valuable, I say:
Adventures of Cookie & Cream - PS2
Cubivore - Atlus, GC
Culdcept - NEC, PS2
Lowrider - PS2
Phantasy Star Online 3 - Sega, GC
Shadow of Destiny - Konami, PS2
Taiko Drum Master - Namco, PS2
Interesting list, I'm curious as to why Cookie and Cream will be valuable? I've never heard that one mentioned in any rare games discussions and I'm wondering why you think it will be valuable? I don't wanna come off like a jack-ass or anything, I'm just really curious.
I wish I could say I used some well researched, scientific procedure, but I didn't. I just looked at my games and picked a few obscure titles/possibly underproduced titles. Cookie & Cream is the definition of that. It was published by Agetec, stresses co-op gameplay and originality, and it's kind of quirky.
I've never even heard of it... as a video game atleast.
Kayden helps substantiate my hypothesis.
After a surge of popularity inspired by Kingdom Hearts 2, KH1 non-GH will skyrocket in value. I'm ready to get the first KH again, even if I don't have a PS2. The cover's droolworthy.

That's my prediction.
Yeah, that'd be my assumption as well. There are two versions, one with the SquareSoft logo, and the newer one with the Square-Enix logo. I have the SquareSoft one. I don't know about a tear though.

In all seriousness, a sealed Shadow Hearts. Scorch, I have three of those, sealed. :) I'm just waiting now.
Dont say that... I have a sealed on and I wanna play it...

For my bet... I'd say ZOE2... Disgaea, probably sealed... I doubt Suikoden III.

Probably the same SNES games... I wonder if they're are any sealed Chrono Triggers, FF3s, or Earthbounds...

Apart from that, I couldn't say.
Well, I had a sealed Earthbound. However, Earthbound never came sealed, so it is kind of hard to say you have an Sealed Earthbound.

I think it is because of this that the value of a brand new Earthbound is not worth very much. I have seen many brand new never used or opened Earthbounds and they don't get what you would think.
Thats why we are here on this website. But it has become a freakin flamefest lately. So get off me son and go fcuk yourself, asshat.
Well, you sure are doing your part to help, aren't you.
That's right, I said ""
And let me add a [-X as well.

Seems weird to keep sealed games as a collectible/investment. But I guess if you think about it, it's no different from people who collect action figures and keep them in their original packaging or people who scooped up the Beanie Babie making sure to never play with them and keep the tags mint. (Beanie Babies BTW aren't worth squat today. GF has a bag of them and the entire lot of 40 or so is probably worth less than $40.)

One thing you have to remember, games and other collectibles can be destroyed, plus you have to give up space to store them. Not so with true investments.

I'd say I'm a collector. I buy some games I know I'll probably never play, just to have them in my collection or because they're a good deal. I think a majority of CAG members do this, too. I also try not to open my games until I am ready to play them.

Games, if you think about it, hold their value better than almost any other collectible. For example, I can buy Persona 2 off Ebay for $50, play it until I'm satisfied, then turn around and sell it for about the same price, if not more.

It's also easy to find great deals out there, and turn around and sell them for a big profit, if you're so inclined. I've done this in the past, though usually I'd rather just build my collection.

I think my steel batallions will be worth 200,00 if not more. I am tempted to open them up every time I look at them.
Sheesh....I get tired of seeing statements like this. Games are to PLAY and ENJOY. If you are just going to buy them to try to make a profit, you would be better off using the money you bought those Steel Battlion(s) with and put it into stocks or bonds..or a savings account. I mean its a free country and you do whatever you like, but I just find it sad and a bit pathetic that you have games that you apparently WANT to play sitting there just hoping to cash in on them later.
Considering that I payed much less than the two hundred dollar price tag I am definately making my money back.

50 for the first copy (CC sale trade ins)
120 for the second copy ( friend in need of money).

Thats 230 profit if I sold it now.

And how dare you attack someone's character blindly like that. I have stocks, bonds and the like. I have a house, car and everything I need. I just have disposable income that I choose to invest in other areas. I am not going to pass up a deal like I had in the above example. Thats why we are here on this website. But it has become a freakin flamefest lately. So get off me son and go fcuk yourself, asshat.
Does it make you feel better to call names? Are you so insecure about something someone says that you try to attack with "words"? What a big man. It wasn't a character attack...now I find it rather funny that you have them sitting there and they taunt you as you walk by "Open me! Play me!' On NO..I can't! You are my future cash cow. Take some of that disposeable income and buy yourself a clue, friend. Thanks for the lovely PMs too, friend....Ive been waiting to reply all day just to make you sweat and wonder if I "got your message" hehe.

I would also like to point out that Kiosk discs for every platform will be rare or better. Nintendo calls theirs "Multigame Interactive Demo Discs" and it puts out a new one every three to four months. Sony calls theirs 'Kiosks'...

You can't buy them. You need to have a connection to a store to get them (which thankfully, I have). At least for the PS2 and Gamecube ones.

X-Box, on the other hand, the only way to get a kiosk disc is to have one personally delievered by a Microsoft rep, and once the stores get a new one, the old one walks out the door with the rep. So yeah, they're hard to get.

Speaking of demos, I'm looking for demo discs for PS2, X-Box, and Gamecube. I don't care if they were free from a store or came out of magazines. I want them. I'll do a five disc for one guide swap. In all likelyhood, most of you have such discs and never use them. They won't be worth anything, ever (the kind that you get for free from a gamestore or from a magazine) but I just like to have a lot of demo discs. PM me, and check my tradelist.

Here are my predictions:

- MGS 2:Substance - PS2
- Both Shadow Hearts
- maybe disgaea (sp?)
- maybe the .hack series
- i don't think suikoden 3 or 4 will be that collectible, tho
- ZOE: 2nd runner, BIG TIME maybe ZOE 1 (have you seen one new lately??)
- Gitaroo Man only for a small select group of people who really enjoy it. It won't be a widely known collectible game.
- Zelda Collectors Edition, maybe the OoT GC disc, too.
- Katamary Damacy, probably not, cause it came out with a lot of word of mouth good press. lots of people know about it.
- the thought on KH, non GH was interesting......could be.
- Non GH FFX or X-2........no way.
- FFXI and chains of promathia could be.....the thing is that they won't be as easy to play cause of the whole online thing. Then it's just something to sit on your shelf, but it could be collectible.
- Rez, never played but have heard enough about it.
- maybe alien hominid.......it was only for the hardcore crowd.

Now for a few far-out-there predictions.....
- KOTOR 2 - Reason: i don't think a lot of people like this one as much as the first, but I think KOTOR 3 will be great and people will want 1 and 2 again.
- Klonoa 2 - it was kinda sorta rare at one time, now it's pretty cheap if you can find it. if they put out another one that's good, this one might jump in collectibility.
- Halo 2 CE - yeah, you can get it anywhere now, but that will change in 2 or 3 years.
- Pikmin 1 and 2 non GH - good games that were under the radar. Not that far out on this prediction, me thinks.
- Document of MGS 2 - true MGS freaks will want it, can't find it in the store now.

What about GBA games??? I can't think of any that are really collectible now.

Umm, did I miss something. (I must have) but when did ZOE 2 become rare? Everyone seems to agree that it will be rare, but I can still find them at my local CC (at least they had a few about a month ago) and that's after I picked up 3 during the old CC $5 sale.

I have a sealed Squaresoft version, no tear. Got it from the CC sale 2003 for like 8.99

If you find copies of it, buy them. They can fetch for $60 on eBay.

A few more to add to my predictions:

Robot Alchemic Drive (Robot AD or RAD) - Enix for PS2
Baten Kaitos - Namco for GCN
Dual Hearts - Atlus for PS2

Halo 2 Limited Edition autographed by JimmieMac
Only a million of them were made so if you don't open them for ten years you will be rich.
You missed the part where he said it was autographed by me, there sure aren't going to be a million of 'em.

Panzer Saga tends to fluctuated. Although I own it, I wish it would be re-released somehow (maybe unlockable in another game). Wing Commander: Kilrathi Saga has gone over 200 a few times, and so has Leisure Suit Larry collection. I'm betting that Rez could get that high in a few years, but the fact that you can burn a bootable overseas version from a download online hinders that. In terms of collector's value, anything that can't be emulated or bootlegged is a safe investment.
In terms of collector's value, anything that can't be emulated or bootlegged is a safe investment.
Good point, and since 'cube games are a little harder to bootleg, they'll be worth the most! hahaha! (sorry, just killing time).
my predictions,
ikaruga,
ultimate muscle (cube - kinda kidding but its a good game)
katamari (maybe, maybe not)
rez (if not re-released)
contra: shattered soldier (since neo-contra kinda blew)
castlevania: sotn

There seems to be a limited supply of these GBA games:

-Bookworm
-It's Mr Pants

...they probably won't be $200, but perhaps worth considerably more than thier retail price.

Another one i don't see very often:

-A Dog's Life ( PS2 )

'Just a few that haven't been mentioned is all...

A lot of these games are indeed rare but not in high demand. I doubt anyone will want A Dog's Life in 3 years, much less five. Has anyone actually tried that game, though?

I definately agree with Moto GP2. That game is rare now.

You guys think movie licensed games like Van Helsing and Hulk will be rare? Hulk's not too common anymore, and I rarely ever see Catwoman anymore.

I think the typical gamer isn't as much into oddball games like that anyways, thus little demand for 'em..

Dog's Life isn't that great; i was able to get it cheap using TRU coupons... so i thought 'what the hey'.
It's chock full of annoying dialogue, and some of the tasks in the game require tons of back and forth traveling within the same area because the dog you control can only hold one item in his mouth at a time ( wuss ). On the upside, there are not many games where you can make your guy piss, crap, and toot on command. :p

Games I think will go up in value:

The Nightmare of Druaga
Cubivore
Rez
Disgaea
Tsugunai: Atonement
Gitaroo Man
Shadow Hearts
Skygunner

I think a lot of the games that will be worth the most have yet to be released

(it seems like the majority of rare games were late-release games)

Mega Man is almost 20 years old. The NES days were considered the Silver Age of the game industry. New games from this era can go for great money. While some recent games can hit $200 I don't think too many that have been listed here will stay at that range.

$30-$150 is the average of a rare game nowadays with a few exceptions...prices constantly fluctuate.
