Although all the reviews are saying that you have to finish this game in one sitting and that there is no save function, there is a hidden level select menu where you can start from the last level you failed to complete.

When you get to the title screen that allows you to choose either "Start" or "Options", just hold down right on the d-pad for a little while. Eventually the game will ask if you want to save (at least the 1st time I did this it did). Choose "No". After that, the "Start" and "Options" menu will slide to the left off of the screen and be replaced by a level select menu.

This should help those of us who can't really sit down to a game like we used to!:bouncy:
THANK YOU! Does this exist for Contra ReBirth as well?
I dunno...maybe you could find out and get back to us?:D

Tried it..no such luck. Apparently in the European version you can access a debug menu by pressing Plus, 1, and 2 on the title screen.

Wow. No save in Contra Rebirth? That pretty much eliminates any interest I had in picking that game up. I never have time to complete a game in one sitting any more. That's taking old-school way too far. The hidden save in Castlevania is nice, though they should just have made it available without any hiding. Alas, I've not really been that crazy about an Castelvania game I've played so far (I've only played DS ones), so I'm not sure if I'll ever pick this game up. I find myself drawn to it anyway for some reason, though, so who knows....

This game is great...I'd go so far to call it the proper pseudo-sequel to Super Castlevania IV.

It's funny to see so many people complaining about games that lack a save feature. I mean, these aren't exactly epic titles that take you hours to complete - we're talking, what, 45 minutes or less start to finish? Retro games are a breeze to finish once you have the right skill level and experience... but require time and effort to learn the skills you need to survive until the end.

For me, no save is a selling point for these retro-revival games. It sets skilled players apart from wannabe gamers. I'd definitely rather play something that rewards practice and skill than just acts as a time-sink - otherwise any joker could pour a couple hours into the title and beat it without trouble.

Obviously some people have different tastes and opinions though.

Okay. Thanks for that...I guess you won't be using this level select option, then.;)

practice and skill that you described is a grind, so coming back to something instead of failing again and again is better rewarding of ones time than having to go through 1-7 again.

If you already mastered said 1-7 what's the point of doing that all over again to get to 8 to beat.

grind and a waste of time. ultimately a failure of a game.

Nope, but it's nice it's there for others.

Depends on what you're looking for. When going through levels 1-7 is fun and only takes 15-20 minutes anyway, doesn't seem like such a waste.

Otherwise why bother playing Tetris (or any puzzle/score-attack game) where you do repetitive actions? Why bother playing any game that is going to challenge you, or have any possibility of failure? Why play any RPG or MMO when you might be forced to grind? It makes more sense to just go rent a movie instead!

I know it's a matter of opinion though.

For example, I thought the Bit.Trip games were brilliant and (if anything) easier than they needed to be. Still haven't beat the last boss for Beat and expect that Core will take me a while to master... but that's all part of the fun for me, probably because I grew up playing games in a different time. Different strokes, as they say.

Sheet, I miss him too LOL! School is kickin' my ass, but I'm hanging in there. I plan to pick him back up when Super comes out. Once I grad in August tho, it's gonna be ON!:bouncy:

You're still playing often? How is the online competition nowadays?

Yeah I am still on it now and then, not as much since BlazBlue has come out. Comp is still good more people know what the hell is going on now so you are not always kicking the hell outta scrubs which is nice. Seems more and more people are going to PC though, not sure why.

I am amazed that people are clamoring for game saves on this type of game. I understand that real life can interrupt gaming, but this is extreme. This isn't a portable system, where you power it on for 5 minutes while you are in line at the post office. If you don't have time for a short game, then I do not envy your life. Do you even get time to sleep or eat? Does your concept of "leisure time" consist of the time spent taking a dump?

Just got this tonight. Its pretty good. I saw this thread a couple of days ago I missed the game when it first came out. I didn't know it was released. How many stages are there total?
