Most of that is just because Christmas is the major western holiday--and it is so largely because of financial reasons/capitalism than anything to do with Christianity. It's just the time of the year that people traditional take a few days of work and spend time with their families regardless of whether they're Christian or not.
With the exception of your fiancee's jerk co-worker, of course, which is an example of what you're bitching about. But the rest of it's not directly tied to religious beliefs, but just x-mas being the dominant holiday.
And some's not related at all. I don't like tax money going to faith-based organizations either, but that has nothing to do with Christmas as that happens year round. Decorations in the white house don't bother me, it's the presidents house he and his family should be able to decorate it how they see fit. But I can see people having issues if tax dollars are buying a nativity scene rather than a christmas tree etc. I stopped worrying about stuff like that, "in god we trust" on money etc. years ago. Not worth the effort and many more important issues to worry about with separation of church and state.
It doesnt matter if Christmas is a Christian holiday or not. Its a religious holiday that is celebrated on a federal/state level which is wrong. It is also creates far to many work place problems. I understand that as you say its just the time of the year people want to take time off of work, I understand that its a tradition and all that other stuff. None of it makes it right nor changes the fact that its a religious holiday.
Also you say sorry bout the 1 bad co worker but thats hardly it. I have meet numerous people that were like that lady, my fiancee works with SEVERAL not a single person like that lady, there are the people putting out the Christ in Christmas signs then many others. Hell my own family who is not Christian and is pretty damn far to the left(my mom is even one of those goverment is watching us and putting stuff in vacines people)was pissed off when I told them this year that this was the last year I was going to celebrate Christmas. Even after I explained that I was still going to come and visit this time of the year and get together wtih the family for dinner, just not do presents because I am not Christian they were pissed.......and pissed would be an understatment for my fiancees family whom IS Christian and I thought was going to scream heathens then kill me.
Yes none of this bitching is going to make a difference, nor would bitching about stuff like the in god we trust on money make a difference. But the reason for it is because there arnt enough people bitching about it and those that do bitch are

ing hippies that whine if anyone even says Merry Christmas. Again I am not one of those people, I just dont want Christmas to be a national holiday nor tax money be spent on anything relating to it.
Its funny that I let out a short rant on my view on Christmas....and people since then have bitched about my bitching. I will never understand that kind of behavior....its easier to let me express my views then let the subject drop then to whine about my bitching.....which as I stated is an even bigger waste of time. I bitch here because as I said I realize not enough people(or reasonable smart people atleast)are upset about the issue. So I blow off quick steam...its kind of what the internet is for....
