Licensed sports games on the Virtual Console?

Is it possible? I don't know the logistics, but I'd really want Ken Griffey Jr.'s Winning Run on my Wii ASAP.

Possible? Absolutely. Likely? Not really, especially for the one you are talking about. I highly doubt that the original license included digital distribution, and therefore, the license with a Griffey or whoever would need to be renewed, which means money. Will only happen for games that the publisher knows would make significant money on the VC.

In that specific case, the publisher was Nintendo.

If anything, they might strip out licensed aspects of a game when releasing it on the VC.

Ken Griffey Jr.'s Winning Run becomes simply 'Winning Run', etc.
