I noticed on the forums some people got banned for flipping games at gamestop. Haven't heard an issue with Bestbuy because they take 3 of the same title per platform/household only.

Not that I intend to do so but..I was wondering how much of the same item to gamestop (game, accessories) before they flag your account?

Also do you guys actually take the time to take off stickers when trading them in?

While there is no "official" system of banning anyone, there are several cases in which a gamestop might, mainly for I have had to do so in the past.

Scenario 1 - GS store managers can refuse trades from anyone , its their call, even if they simply don't like you
Scenario 2 - GS tracks all trade ins etc as you have to provide information when doing so, if they system notices a lot of trade ins from one person, possibly same titles etc around the same time, the system will flag them and bring to DM"s attention, DM can cut that person off.
Scenario 3 - Items are suspected stolen, had this happen to me personally when i used to work at GS with people stealing all the PS2 greatest hits and trading them in, was nice for my store trade in wise but had to stop them as tired of police coming in asking.

As far as stickers etc, I know GS's usually don't let you trade in sealed items and personally I usually try and remove any other pricing etc. However personally I haven't flipped too much at GS lately, even with promos trade in values are meh and not making much off my investment. Rather wait for games to drop in price shortly after release lol

Banned for getting ripped off at Cheapstop??? You must have got some really good deals if youre gonna "flip" there.

Yeah I noticed that recently, some guys walked in the store with sealed wii accessories and lamestop said they couldn't take sealed items. This was at the store where they actually fingerprint you for trade ins. Funny thing was it was during the buy2get1 free recently.

So I went down the next gamestop and it was the same guys only they attempted to open the item this time. They had a license but they weren't 18 so they couldn't do squat. They were pressing their luck when they were asking people to trade in for them.

GS once refused me a trade on more than one copy of Resident Evil 4 on the gamecube (I had two); and if you think about it, this can make sense if they're about to do a price drop and some, er... entrepreneur has a whole warehouse full of shovelware that they have to dump.

As whole though I haven't had problems with gamestop since the majority of what I trade-in is from yardsales and is not uniform (the exception being Gamecube controllers, they take those in four at a time no problem). Though on the buying end one of the associates started getting suspicious when I was up to my 15th copy of Tales of the Abyss--sometimes you just have to know when to let things cool down.

Do you really think that contributes anything to this discussion?

It probably depends on how much stolen merchandise a GS store gets, or how much inventory they have. If they have 20 Gamecube controllers or 30 copies of Madden in their back room they may be unwilling to take more merchandise. If the store sees a ton of stolen merchandise that is coming in they will probably be very strict about what they take in. If you are coming in with GH games 2-3 times a week or games that the store knows are right out on the shelves of the other stores with cases in pristine condition then its also going to be obvious.

Controllers shouldn't be too suspicious as its common for someone to own multiple controllers. I probably have about 8-10 N64 controllers alone.

I would avoid trading stuff in right from the package, especially if you are taking it out of the package and going right into the store, that new item smell is very obvious. Maybe try to put a few scratches or scuffs on an item and let it sit a day out of the package before you take it in.

Though there are plenty of pawn shops here that would likely take the stuff without blinking an eye. The flea market here will take ANYTHING if you find the right vendor to sell to.

it probably takes a LOT for the average store to ban you.

I was at one while doing the ps2 best buy flip that showed me a copy of deus ex that had come out the day before that just got traded in.

It had all the redbox stickers and everything, and the person traded it in for cash. They said they couldn't do anything about it and had to take the trade. They said this happens almost every week that they get multiple copies from redbox traded in disc only for cash..

Ha. That reminds me when the GS manager was telling the employee to not take no more then 1 copy of the same game. He was saying that the guy came in and try to trade 3 of the same game stating that dude probably stole it from a store.

 I've had the employees at Gamestop stores remark how nice my items were when I traded them in, as if games/controllers are SUPPOSED to be traded in looking like someone skipped em off the ground or threw them against the wall a couple of times.

But once you look on their used game shelves and realize what a good 80-90% of their shit they're trying to sell looks like, then you realize why they made the comments.

As for being banned, I think folks here already know my story of multiples(mainly HDMI cables) and how GS marked me persona non grata because I was obviously not one of their usual customers.

What do you mean, not a usual customer? They probably recognized your face every time you came to trade in games

By usual customers I mean the people that buy a new/used game one week n trade it back in the next week for 1/5th that price.

That's actually a different situation than in your op though.

It's actually in Gamestop's trade-in and corporate policy they're not allowed to take in any New/Unopened/Sealed games/accesorries.

They do it sometimes for the people they know, but they're actually not supposed to take in anything that is still sealed. And if you unseal it in the store, they'll still tell you they can't accept it.

Basically you just have to make sure to unseal new stuff if you intend to trade them in new and sealed.

Yeah, I've been complimented on the few things I've traded in there on the condition. The best part is when the employees step up and tell you if the best disc of a game looks bad. Happened to me when I went to get the original Saints Row. I ended up picking up Crackdown instead as all the SR discs looked like coasters.

Then again, the manager at the local store is incredibly nice as well. He's regularly out on the floor helping customers, makes sure parents know the rating systems, and tells people if there's a deal coming up for it in the next week or so.

Theft isn't a problem here to my general knowledge, but they do ask a good bit where the trade-in stuff came from and on occassion why its being trading it in. They don't really seem to care as long as it's not stolen. I told them about getting Scene It? controllers for free from club.live and having multiple sets of them.

What I meant was they opened the item beforehand when coming to the 2nd store. But they still failed...

I was blacklisted from the greater Omaha region of GS in the PS2 days during their "Trade 3, get an extra $10" promotion.

I bought about 12 of their $1-$2 games (mostly Power Drome and Gran Turismo 3) to use as filler with some games that I actually wanted to trade in.

After a few rounds of trading sets of 3 (PD+GT3+my game) to 4+ stores later, there was a memo in their binder with my name on it stating not to take trades from me.

What I've learned is that they don't ban/flag your account, they blacklist you as a person. I was still allowed to shop there, but I was told no more trades allowed "indefinitely" with no specific time frame set.

I think the only time I've ever traded in anything disc only to GS was during the 3/$10 dealie last gen back when I was getting the :xbox:Tom Clancy Triple Pack for $4 n change from Kmart in multiples and trading the three seperate discs in each package towards the $10 bonus dealie.

On average I think each triple pack would net me $18 per package and I only had ONE instance where the jerkoff employees at GS tried hitting me with refurb fees for being disc only.

I can't count how many copies of Jak II for the PS2 that I traded in during the Kmart sales of last gen. One time I walked out of Kmart with a massive bag of games, opened what I wanted to trade in then walked right into a GS that was across the way from the Kmart and traded them in. I never got in trouble for it and no one suspected anything.

I don't think they were being as strict about it then as they were now, over the last few years slickdeals and fatwallet have gotten a lot of attention, and likely making the GS employees all the wiser. Also deals where you can buy games at one store and actually make a profit from them by trading to GS are extremely slim at this point since even the major retailers have gotten smarter about marking games down so that they are cheap enough to do that with.

Normally when it happens at one store, they generally call the other stores in the area to give the other stores a heads up that the customer might try it at their store too, so that's probably why they failed again at the other store.

So as long as I space it out I'm good? I've traded in a total of 3 Black Ops' and I've got another one I got today for $13 I can flip for $28 (30% bonus + PUR), I bought a $15 copy of Dance Central today that I flipped for $28 also (and I bought another copy for $13 too).

You do know that if those Black Ops were for PS3 or 360, you could've received $23 base for them at BB before the 50% bonus for pre-ordering Gears 3 and the 10% bonus for signing up for the Gamer's Club Unlocked(their version of PUR), right?:booty:

You do know that cool story bro I got like $33 for them anyway at the point I traded them in ($40 for my first copy) :D

Plus Best Buy is about 10 miles away, GS is 1.5. Save on gas money at the loss of what, like $3? I'll take my chances anyway, hopefully since they're spaced out it won't be a problem if I go to GS.
