I agree, LRG should make copies of "insert name of game here" because... fuck digital.
This post can't be liked enough. Ooh I wish they could do AAA digital only releases, like Fatal Frame (which I heard they're trying to do, supposedly?) and maybe older ones like Megaman 9/10. When is Shantae expected to go up?

I hope that's not the case... the thing I like about LRG is that there are no surprises. I know when a listing is going up and how many copies... I really hate when stuff goes on sale at random times.

It's hard enough to try and shop while at work, it's another when you have to check regularly.
This one isn't going to be limited though. They are basically going to open up preorders because it's a PC game and there aren't really minimum order quantities or the same extended turnaround time to get through Sony. I guess if you care about getting a super low number, a specific preorder open time and date is helpful, but otherwise, you shouldn't have a problem preordering.

Oh, I see. Curious to see how this is going to go then vs a standard release with a fixed production run and also, how is a PC game going to be received by LRG's audience. I feel like there aren't as many PC game collectors as there are console game collectors.

I don't think it'll be accurate to judge how PC games will sell based on this release. I'm buying it because I'm a sucker for VNs and it being a Suda51 game is a very nice bonus. If it were some random indie game, I'd likely not buy it. It coming with a steam key before the physical copy is delivered helps a lot too, as I'll most likely redeem the key and play it on Steam. Anyway, it's still a limited release.. just limited to however many copies are preordered rather than a preallocated amount.

I imagine it'll be fairly successful based on it being a Suda51 game alone. Oh, and for the record I almost never buy PC boxed copies unless they come with a steam or battle.net key and are some kind of clearance deal. I think the two exceptions would be The Silver Case, and the recent $4 IndieBox promo.

Most PC games don't get physical releases honestly anymore. VNs seem to hold their value well, such as Jast USA releases, and really never get that much cheaper. I will pre-order The Silver Case in a heartbeat and play it on Steam while keeping that one sealed up likely.

This is exactly why we're doing preorders. We have no idea how many people will jump on it and if we had set numbers they would have likely been way too conservative. :)

As a heads up, we don't plan to do many PC games. We're leaving that up to IndieBox. When we do them, it will be reserved for heavy hitters (and I might do Saturday Morning RPG because it's my baby and I'm biased). Since minimum order quantities aren't a concern on PC, we'll probably do all PC releases as open preorders. Anyone going for a full set of our PC releases should have an easy time.

Also, helpful protip: we'll ship PC games out in a box by default. No need to add a shipping box to your order.

As a note on the longterm value potential of One Way Heroics: not many people realize this but OWH is a licensed game and the license for it expires in two years. As is always the case with licensed games - it will eventually be delisted from PSN and Steam, it's just a matter of time. At that point our release will be the only way to get the game outside of piracy. Considering the wealth of Danganronpa and Mystery Dungeon connections and cameos in OWH, I can't imagine this becoming a forgotten game.

Again, always expecting huge immediate increases in value is kind of silly but these will rise with time and as other factors kick in.
It will be a forgotten turd that game sucks soooooo to each the own rare or not

What are the chances we'll get reissues of past games? Specifically breach and clear? Came late to the LRG party and missed pretty much all the last releases and really don't want to help scalpels make money.

Highly unlikely. I believe they have to go to the company and make a deal regarding how many copies get printed. The last game I received had a loose disc...oh well.

Have you tried this method? I got a few floaters last week from Best Buy and Amazon and it worked perfectly every time.

Whoa, I gotta try that too...  Loose disks don't really bother me though, I don't sell my collection and frankly, it's kinda cool to know there's a disc in the sealed case.

That technique is much easier and faster than the one I was doing. Every time someone complained about a loose disc LRG should just link them to that video.

Does the back of the case show the "imprints" from the teeth using this method?

I'm definitely trying this the next time I get a loose disc. I used the other method without the hard surface but it left some marks on the back half of the insert.

I agree, it's likely to be forgotten, much like Dragon Fin Soup last year (which released with horrible load times, bugs and so on). Weather it's valuable or not though, only time will tell. But it's not looking too good going by the user feedback on steam that people will remember this for years to come let alone want to remember this.

Of course being valuable is a trickier subject, especially since anyone currently collecting had a lot of time this go around to get the games and it's this batch of people that are the initial ones to jump to dealing with a reseller due to how fast the games go. Plus if they patch the game to improve it, none of these physical copies will be preserving that patch (if it does somehow make a fairly mediocre to bad game legitimately great).

Not for me it hasn't. I think the hard flat surface evenly distributes the pressure and really, you're only pushing down on the one spot about an inch from the hub once the disc is floating on top of the hub.

Got my order in before 6:01 so I'm happy about that. Surprised by the price though. Expected it to be $39.99 not $49.99. Ehh it is what it is, excited for the game

I think I'm going to have to draw the line at boxed PC games. I buy everything else from LRG. Steam works well enough.
In this case, I think it's more about the game itself. It's a Suda51 game which, in and of itself is exciting enough, but it also comes in the nice numbered box, with physical soundtrack and the comic/book thingy. That's why I'm getting in on it. Love Suda

I'm normally the same, but there are a few PC boxed releases that hold value. This will most likely be one of them, especially considering it's by Suda51..

So I see silver case comes with a digital key. Does that mean it's for steam? And if so can you just buy it on steam? If it's a lot cheaper I'd probably just buy it on steam, I don't collect pc games.

LRG release comes with a steam key and a drm-free disc. The game on steam costs $19.99 for standard version and $29.99 for deluxe

I love Suda 51, but couldn't care any less about PC games, so this is a pass for me.  I hope it sells well and would love to see a console port down the line.

Bring on Shantae!

In case it helps figure out what order numbers were mine was 47795

e: Just noticed it'll be on sale til October 20th? Does that not seem like a really long time from now to anyone else? I understand leaving it up for a little while but that seems surprisingly long.

Mine was 47903. Gmail shows my order confirm as of 5:02 CST, and I placed my order as soon as it popped up on my phone at 5:01 CST.

When exactly did the listing go up? I'm guessing those running scripts or whatever likely got their orders in the earliest.

They said the game will be manufactured to demand so it won't sell out.

It went up at 5:59 EST, I don't remember the exact time in seconds, but I know it went live before 6:00

Yeah I get that. Still doesn't change that it's a pretty long time for pre-orders to be open. I'm not complaining since it doesn't really matter either way to me, I'm just surprised.

Just over two weeks is a long time?  People go on vacations for longer than that.  Also, every other made-to-order game I'm aware of (Summon Knights, Rez Infinite, Shovel Knight Vita, Ni No Kuni CE, etc) have/had been up for preorder a lot longer than that.

$49.99 is a bit rich for my blood...even though I did buy Funbag Fantasy for a bit over $40. I will think about it. Already missed low numbers anyway.

Yeah, seriously. Summon Night 6 is gonna be up for over 2 months.

Odds are, there was a surge in pre-orders when it went up and for the next day or so (the people who really want it) and when pre-orders end (the people who wanted to think on it and pre-order last minute). Just b/c something is up for a week/month/year doesn't mean it's consistently being pre-ordered throughout the entire period.

I had to Google what that was... I'm not entirely sure what it's about but the title definitely seems accurate.

Was it one of you guys that posted this on Facebook, "Well looks like they are trying something new to make more moola. If they expand into bigger print releases like this then I'll probably stop buying. I know they are a business that wishes to make money but they need to do a separate project with a different name. Limited run needs to stay limited. And printing as many copies needed to fill how ever many orders they get is not limited."

What a joke, people like this are what's wrong with collecting. Technically this release is limited as they won't produce it forever. Also, do people like this actually play games anymore or are they too concerned with how rare their games are.

It PC tho... LRG used to mean limited copies, now for the first time it really means limited run (not necessarily limited quantities, depending on preorder demand within two weeks or so).

Didn't you guys argue the shit out of preorder model or something like that? You got what you wished for...

I actually prefer this method for pre-orders of limited stuff. Course I go more for the limited edition and not oh man will this be OMGZ Rarezzzzzzz eventually. Gaijinworks has done this for a while now and are still doing it with their newest LE. Nothing bad at all.
