That's a lot of Gex merch. I wish the steelbook was more than just the standard cover art. Lazy. Has there been any word on how these games run? Like, Switch vs PS5/Xbox?

I'll probably grab standard Gex and Bundle up with Gradius and something else this Sunday before midnight deadline..

I'm really looking forward to Gradius and I might get all 3 Cover Variants.. I got all 3 variants of from LRG of Castlevania Dominus Collection as well as the Konami Variant

So people do get duped into buying all the covers lol

It's be nice if they just sold each cover separately, or in a bundle with all covers instead of having to buy the game multiple times just for paper covers.

I never understood why you would need three copies of the same game with a different cover sheet. That just makes no sense to me at all.

Is that extra cover worth another $40?

I remember when they used to let you just buy the alternative cover sheets separately for a few bucks each. Remember they used to do that. The good old days lol.

I mean... do you NEED video games at all?

This isn't a question of NEEDs... this is a question of wants. Some people want 1 copy and buy it. Some people wanted 4 copies and bought 4.

I bought all the variants, and I often buy variants/multiple copies of something- LRG or otherwise. I just like having stuff, I find it neat to sort, organize, track, etc... dunno why. I'm sure plenty of people will question it, that's fine. I don't see the issue, me buying 4 copies of the game didn't take anything away from anyone and sure I might be fueling a bad business practice but it's not like it's a secret anymore as to what any business does.

I free like Gradius Origins is a good example of something I wouldn't want physical, but rather digital once it goes on sale for around $10. But hey it's good there are options. I'm just past feeling like I want everything physical. Certain games, yes... but not every single game. If the eshop dies in 10 years... ok... I can just emulate these old arcade games on pretty much any pc or laptop without even needing a special videocard.

I see that the Gradius Origins Classic Edition includes the other Alternate Covers.. so instead of getting 2 more physical copies I could just get the Classic Edition..

Hey man it’s your money do what you want with it. I was just trying to point out that they used to sell us the alternative cover sheets separately for a few bucks each back in the day. I’ve been here since the start and I’ve seen everything they’ve been doing all these years.

As someone mentioned you can buy a version that includes the separate cover sheets. They do that now in collectors editions. But they did at one point just sell you the variant cover for like an extra $2.

I don’t have any issues with how you or anyone spends their money or how they collect.

I’m here buying games I want too. I just don’t find a need to own multiple copies of the same game for $40 because the cover is different. To each their own.

You realize trading cards are worth like a penny each of labor and material, but a salamandorzon card (I don’t know, whatever) that sparkles a little is worth thousands. Companies in this sector, especially ones run like LRG, are obligated to create perceived value and extract it where they can. In this current cultural and political climate, that’s all that is left.

Theres also a unique code for 40% off drop 3 stuff in their email. They got me for Contra Anniversary PS4 and Floppy Knights Switch with that, $21 each isn’t too bad I guess.

Saw some tempting stuff for drop 4 like One Step from Eden and the admittedly dumb GBA Night Trap cart, but I’ll just wait and see if those make it to the next drop with a coupon code now.

I'm not going to use my 40% off drop 3 code, so here it is:

Replace the question marks with the initials of Walmart's main house brand. (Hint: this brand has products everywhere throughout the store but are primary in the grocery and beauty isles.) If you're stumped or too lazy to figure it out, just send a DM. No promises on how fast I'll get back though!

PAX East 2025 News: Limited Run Clears the Air on Switch 2 Physical Games

When speaking with their marketing representative at PAX East 2025, they confirmed that any Limited Run numbered release for the Switch 2 will contain the full game on the cartridge, aka. a true physical release. Game released as a partnership (and therefore, not a numbered release) may be published as a game-key card, leaving the decision to the third party.

Part of me wonders if this whole Raidou situation was them testing the waters to see if they could get away with game cards.

Still though, with the full-capacity carts costing ~$15 more (not an official number, just what's been floating around) I wonder how much demand there's really going to be. Embracer/LRG's not going to eat tariff or production cost and I question how many people are lining up to pay like $70 for another re-release of Shantae or a copy of something like Gex or Plumbers Don't Wear Ties.

I wouldn't underestimate the craziness of people buying the same game a generation later. Look at the people buying PS5 versions of those Shantae games even when they have ps4 versions that easily play on their ps5's.

I could see some also being tempted by a proper Shantae Collection with all the games on a single cart (including Advance). I skipped out on the Switch releases other than what came to retail. It might even tempt me back. Not that I have managed yet to lock down a switch 2 preorder. It's probably going to be similar to Switch 1 for me, waiting until the local walmart gets the first restocks in. But, that's cool too. I don't need it day 1. It's nice to see feedback on new tech.

I think it's justified if the new(er) release is complete on disc/cartridge.

Otherwise, yea, dunno why you'd buy it twice unless the game has some sentimental value to you

Yea definitely... I'd easily buy Breath of the Wild for Switch 2 if it included all the DLC and has the quality Improvements etc etc..

Lately I've been tracking down all Complete on Cartridge Switch Games and I think it's worth it owning a definitive physical edition

Dilema...I have Tomb Raider 1-3 already and on the fence about getting 4-6. Mainly becuase it's LRG and I have said that I was "never" going to order from them again.... (I have stuck to the "never" trading into GameStop again since mid PS4 era)

So do I break that so I can have the set or do I stick to the notion of not supporting LRG.

I was disappointed when I heard the news they were going to make the physical version of 4-6

You can also buy a copy from VGP in the future and avoid dealing with LRG. This may also see a retail release like the first set of games. This is a distribution title and may get a regular retailer release.

Unless you plan on getting it on Xbox. This will mostly likely and unfortunately be like the first game and be a LRG exclusive for the green platform.
That is a good point Tomb Raider 1-3 didn't get a Xbox retail release either.
One of the reasons I bought the Xbox Soul Reaver collection direct from LRG.

I wish the Thing Remastered got a Xbox release but it didn't so I preordered the PS5 version.

I think anyone wanting to collect physical XBox, there's so little market for xbox physical games you shouldn't bank on them showing up elsewhere since they just aren't selling. Heck the system too has nosedived in sales.

XboX Series X basically became a PC, of which more and more consoles are becoming like PCs (PS5 seems heading this direction). No need to own a console like that when I have a good PC already. Switch and Switch 2 don't really look or feel like a PC too much, so it's its own thing. Just my opinions of course. If PS5 didn't have console exclusives and some niche games, I would be out of that system too.

The worst type of PC...one that limits what games you can play and requires you to pay a fee to play online.

There are a few hardcore Xbox collector, but the mainstream stuff are a hard sell. You got Dead Rising, Metaphor, and Star Wars Outlaws getting bigger Xbox price drop before the PS5 version.

Hate I kind of want the Gex Trilogy. I liked the games enough (especially the first), to want to play them again, but I'm guessing it's probably just smart to wait till it releases and get it digitally. I don't love the series, just like it, so it's not a must have. Now if they put up Tomba 2.....

I know for myself the end result of LRG was to really limit what I buy. To never collect for a system again (which I was for Vita before LRG watered down the library). It helped me give up chasing physical copies of a lot of games I would have bought at retail, and just gome digital. FOMO on limited print stuff sucks the fun out of collecting.

It’s not just LRG either..l it’s all the limited shenanigans even in retailthat push FOMO. I makes me want to actively just miss out and go more digital.

I'm certain that cutting those costs resulted in better product and faster delivery than what an international publisher with substantive supply chain connections already in place.

In the contracting world, people think that lowest bid wins the game. Well it does for those who don't care about the outcome. Usually best-value is a better determination. I can see how a Konami went with lowest bid for this stuff, since they make their money from pachinko. But LRG does not offer the best-value proposal by a long shot.

Castlevania fans will put up with a lot, it seems.
