List of 8.99 2-disc titles at Amazon (12.13 update) + a few others

It would be nice IF amazon actually matched what Best Buys is doing.

The $8.99 in store Best Buy price tag is correct, but with the on-line pricing, it's actually buy 1 get one free.

Example:
Buy "Dark Crystal" + "Casino Royale" for a combined total of $8.99 (so $4.50 a piece) at best buy online, then do a in-store pick up.

Remember, as already pointed out in the other thread if I recall correctly, you must do two titles per order. Adding four DVDs to your cart will only give you 1 movie for free.

not sure about the buy 1 get one free as i just tried to do it at bestbuy.com and its still 8.99 each both titles in my cart.

Edit: nvm, i see the free offer in my cart now but casino royale does not apply to a free dvd

and add them two at a time

in-store pickup is the best way to go so you avoid shipping

most stores in my area are out of stock so the amazon option is a good backup...

*edit*

u r welcome freek

:)

There are some gems in there...

If ANY of you hasn't seen The Shawshank Redemption, you should REALLY, REALLY, see it. Oh, and Dr. Strangelove is another must-see.

Oh, by the way, if you buy that Robocop set, you can get Robocop 2 for three dollars off, so both movies together total 18.98

Yeah, i like 2. A lot of people don't.

after that though, things get shaky imo.

and congrats to MGM for managing to milk the shite out of the original, while still managing to not make the fans feel TOO taken advantage of.

i think Robo and Blade Runner have both reached their limits though.

Fortunately that's not correctly. :)

Add ANY two titles to your shopping cart. There's over 540 titles to choose from. "Buy 1 Get 1 Free" I believe it ends on 12/8/07 but not sure. Do it quickly before the deal is over.

You must remember the rule though. Only check out two at a time, so by the end, you'll have lots of best buy.com online orders.

Adding 2 to a cart = you're buying 1, getting 1 free
Adding 4 to a cart = you're buying 3, getting 1 free
Adding 9 to a cart = you're buying 8, getting 1 free

Bottom line, only add 2 to a cart and proceed to check out. Rinse and repeat. Til 12/8/07 I think.

Wow Taxi Driver for $9? Great deal there. Titus is a good one if anybody is into strange yet stylish Shakespeare movies.
u gotta get Tae Guk Gi. One of the best war movie EVER!!!
i really considered it b/c that looks like such a nice DVD

i'm interested in seeing the Korean view of the war, from the soldier's perspective as well as the Korean civilians.

prob rent if first tho

it did get an 8.1 at IMDB and dvdtalk has this to say

What's most effective about this critical look at the war is the perspective we're given on it. The two brothers are affected by the war in very different ways: while both start out as passive victims of the draft, equally horrified by the mayhem around them, one of them becomes increasingly seduced by the war machine while the other remains keenly aware of the larger perspective of right and wrong. Since we've come to see both brothers as decent people, and because their relationship remains central to the story, it's disturbing (yet all too plausible) to see how one of them gradually becomes more and more brutal. While the graphic battle scenes hammer home the visceral hellishness of the war in simply physical terms, it's in this psychological dimension that Tae Guk Gi makes its stronger and more frightening point. War crimes and atrocities aren't committed by a select few, psychopathic individuals, but by ordinary people in circumstances that twist them into behaving in ways they'd never have thought possible.

While the chaotic battle scenes are an essential part of Tae Guk Gi's main themes, at times the graphic violence and gore goes a little over the line. There's a fine line between strongly emphasizing a point so that the audience is deeply affected, and overdoing it so that the audience becomes inured to the effect. For the most part, Tae Guk Gi handles its material well, using it to show how truly desperate the situation is, and to illustrate the way the war affects the characters, but it's occasionally too much.

Another yes vote for the movie - it's pretty good. I liked it enough to get the Japanese LE version of the movie a year or two ago (I'll have to pick this US version up so that I can finally understand the extras! edit: the funny this is that they show a picture of the 5 disc limited set at Amazon). The battle scenes were filmed in a Saving Private Ryan-ish manner (very much so), although a little more chaotic.

However, be warned that Korean movies tend to side on the melodramatic, and some of the dramatic moments might be groan inducing for some American based audiences. Still, the story revolves primarily around 2 brothers, so it's a little more personal than your usual war movie.

Anybody know if Taxi Driver is coming out on Blu-Ray? I already have it on DVD (1 disc only) and let somebody borrow it. Unfortunately, they returned it with a bunch of gunk on the back of the DVD and I can't wipe it off.

If it's not coming out on Blu-Ray, I would love to get in on the $8.99 2 disc price point. :)

No love for The Lost Boys 2-Disc set? Amazon SORT of matched it at $12.99. Best Buy has it hidden in that stack in-ad, but it is indeed the 2-disc version for $8.99 on the BB website.

that's a good price for Lost Boys

i got that one during BB's bogo screw up last year

:)

PLEASE UPDATE, OP:

I got my Amazon order in the other day, and my Robocop 20th anniv was NOT a steelbook! :oldman: It has a slipcover and then a regular 2-disc keepcase. The UPC is the same as the steelbook. I was planning on buying the steelbook at Wal-mart and returning my non-steel version, but they sold out of it a week after release.

This was going to be my very first steelbook, and Robocop is the best possible DVD I could think to have encased in steel. I'll still be searching for a B&M location to buy the real steelbook from until the end of the year...If anyone does receive the steelbook from Amazon, please post or PM me. I'll call Amazon and request it if I know they have them.

FYI: Lost Boys 2-disc is at Sam's Club for ~$9.26 or so, I picked it up earlier this week.

I didnt get the Steelbook either :(

Im doing the same as you and trying to find a copy of it to exchange, most likely, Circuit City should have it...if you can find it on those so called shelves....
Best Buy wasn't the steelbook either, so I returned it!
I was just wondering that, thanks. I saw an eBay listing of the non-steelbook with a Best Buy sticker on it tonight...

UPDATE: I found a steelbook copy (Robocop) at FYE for the special over-msrp price of $22.99. I'll wait until after the holidays to return my Amazon copy (unless FYE has a short return timeframe).
