I have had a painful time trying to get a 360 from RCSS. I've felt like I was trying to get a Wii. I'm Sorry it's a long post but please give me some leeway to tell a Cheap Gamer Christmas Story.
I've been calling RCSS's everyday and checking the store to see if they had stock so I could get a 360 cheap. Last Saturday I called the Westboro Store in Ottawa, they said they had arcades in stock and were going to put it out on Saturday just before the sale started at 5PM. I asked the sales person 3 times to clarify this was the Arcade pack it's green etc. He confirmed.
I was very excited as this was going to be my Christmas/Birthday gift this year and I going to get it at a good price. I already some cheap games I've bought through the deals on this site; Perfect Dark, Viva Pinyata, Halo Legendary and Gears of War from Shoppers Drug Mart $35 just last week. I've been wanting a 360 since launch but first the price was too high, then the hardware issues started to appear and I decided to wait a while and get a Wii instead.
Last Saturday at 2 I call again to confirm they'll put out the Arcade Packs out at 5PM and they haven't sold them yet. He confirmed. I gave my two sons a snack and packed them up to go to the store with me and planned to take them out to supper after we get the 360. We get there just before 5:00 the electronic section is full of people and it's a mess. I see plenty of boxes and products everywhere. I look at the display case and see stacks of PS3 and DS's and one Pro 360, No arcades. My heart sinks a bit but I think they just haven't pulled them out of the back yet. I get one of the cashiers attention and ask if he had any Arcade 360 packs, "Yes, here you go" and hands me a Pro. "Ah no, I wanted a Arcade Pack". I would have got the pro but it was a low lot number and probably not a Falcon. Then he said "Oh, go ask that guy about them". I ask the electronics guy he says no we don't have any....I was terrible disappointed. I just stared at him for 10 seconds not completely wanting to believe what he said. I asked the usual questions are they in back are you sure. He replied they didn't have any. Now I'm getting a little mad and decided to express my displeasure of Driving 45 Minutes to the store called twice and had 2 confirmation they were in stock and available! He didn't know what to do and nether did I. So I asked if I could at least have a rain check... He said yes. I tried to get a rain check for the no tax sale price but No, I got one for the $250 sale price for an arcade good for 30 days.
At this moment my 5 year old son starts to cry and says his tummy hurts. I'm confused because he had been perfectly normal all day. I said "Okay, lets go home." I had planned to stop by ToysRUs and Zellers to see if I could get a price match on the $250 price or at least pick up the Hard drive at RCSS in Kanata for $68 but home we go. Just before we got on the Highway my son throws up, I pull into Home Depot clean up part of it so I can drive home with out getting sick my self. I'm thinking this day is terrible.
I get him home, clean him up, make him feel better by playng some Bugs Bunny cartoons and prepare myself for cleaning up the car. I grab my iPod to listen to the Gaming Steve Podcast, anything to keep my mind for thinking of the Cold or what I'm cleaning up. My husband comes home I explain what happened to our son and later on he asks me about the 360 I tell him my sad tale.
Sunday we get a big snow storm I can't got out to get price matches or buy the Hard Drive at least. Maybe I'll just give up on the 360 this year and buy a PS3 at least I can watch Pixar movies in HD or a PSP.
Monday the roads still aren't clear and the kids have the day off school I decide to play my Wii. I turn it on nothing happens, I push the button a few more times nothing. I just got a replacement Wii from Nintendo last week because my first one had a faulty GPU...Now, I really wanted to cry my Wii is broken again I have Mario Galaxy to finish.
I call my husband he has an electronics degree and is nice enough to trouble shoot things for me. Nothing worked so I call Nintendo with the problem and find out that I won't have a working Wii for Chrstmas when I have friends coming and the new games I bought for my Kids will have to wait till after Christmas. He offers to express post everything and even send me a new AC adapter if that's the problem. I'm pretty well sure it's not the AC but at lest I'll get a second AC adapter I wanted an extra one to permanently install in my entertainment center.
Around 12pm on Monday my husband informs me there's a fundraising raffle at his work for the food bank and the prizes are 3 Wii's and a Halo 360 with some accessories. He felt bad at how things were not going well and bought some tickets for me thinking he could at least get a working Wii for me. I said thank you and good luck. What a nice guy. Around 1PM he messages that he didn't get a Wii, I said thank you for trying and he's a sweet guy. I get an email from him a second later with a photo of him grinning holding a Halo 3 edition 360 with a copy of Halo 3 and an extra spartan edition Halo controller that he won at the auction.
I was floored, shocked and really grateful.
Merry Christmas everyone! If anyone in Ottawa wants a Rain Check for a 360 arcade at the RCSS on Richmond RD PM me.
