If that hapans that would be amazing news. While she is just a manager so you can take this with a grain of salt she said that her bosses have been telling her that the B&N company is looking to keep gamestop and ebgames as 2 seperate companies to encourage "friendly but controlled competition". Hopefully this is true and true to the extent that the people running gamestop keep their noses out of EBGames bussiness and we keep our CAG15/15 PPLay deals and EBEdge and SAVER stacking with it!

We can all dream but we won't fully know if this is true are not until after Labor Day because based on the news conference Gamestop had they were going to finalize the deal by then.

Not suprising.
If you were her boss, would you tell her, "put your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye?"
I highly doubt any decision has been made and even further doubt that anyone working at a retail EB location would have any relevant information on the merger.
Hahahahahaaha 'Friendly but controlled compotition'
Kayden, didn't sound right to me either. How the fuck can you have competition if you actually own both competitors.

no kidding...2 weeks ago, I asked an EB employee (one who has worked there for as long as I can remember...and i assume is a manager because of this) about the merger and he said he didn't know what i was talking about

It's called 'trick the unspuspecting populace'. Remember, your average person doesn't know about the merger. So when little Billy's mom goes to Gamestop to get his birthday present, and doesn't get what she wants, she'll go to EB and spend more to 'show up those Gamestop SOBs'- not knowing it's the same company. People like choices, even if the money goes to the same place. (Plus, now they get twice the Value card money, cuz we'll all need 2 for both of their stores.)

This actually happened at work awhile back... I was working framing, and a lady hands me an estimate from Aaron Brothers framing with the price cut out, looking to see if we charged less (and maybe to weasel a free discount out of us.) I tell her I'll be happy to check, but it's proably goning to be excactly the same, cuz our chain owns Aaron Brothers too. Caught her off-guard with that! (It was the same, too.)

*runs off crying let me hold onto my dreams*

As I said in the last post its obviously to be taken very lightly....but when it comes to really the only place to get reasonable deals now days ill hold onto any last thread of hope I have.

They may do the Macy's - Rich's thing. Macy's and Rich's were owned by the same company (Federated) and they still maintained stores at the same mall. Several years later, the stores were called Rich's/Macy's now it is just Macy's. At least here in Georgia.

Macy's owned Rich's? Wow, I never knew that. Rich's was an awesome store.

For some strange reason, I continue having dreams about fighting vampires in the toy section.

I could see them keeping them seperate. Blockbuster does that with Movie Trading Company. They would probably shut down a lot of stores though. The malls around here each have a Gamestop and EB games.

Hehe my mall only has an ebgames....but there is a gamestop 2 blocks from there, another gamestop 3 or 4 blocks from there and then a third freaking gamestop only a few blocks from that one.

This reminds me of a Bill Hicks skit about government.

"The puppet on the right is more to my liking" says Billy... , "The puppet on the left is more in tune with my beliefs" says Bobby...

But Buddy sees something different... "Hey! Theres someone holding both puppets!" Says Buddy.

"YOUR GOVERNMENT IS IN CONTROL" says the government.

It doesn't make any sense for a company to promote "competition" between two divisions of the same company in the same market place.
I seriously doubt the store manager would have this kind of inside knowledge.

But still, it is interesting rumor.

Also add to that comment the fact the B&N no longer owns GameStop nor has any say in what GS does.

I was talking to the manager of my local Gamestop recently and was told the exact same thing about the whole merger buisness... he said that corporate told him they wouldn't be merging for at least another 3 or 4 years if they did at all.

Take it for what you will, just passing on info...

Guys... its not happening for alteast 6 more months. NONE of this info would be spilling to the store managers, which are the lowest people on the food chain. At the most, its just rumblings the DM heard.

It's astouding to behold the amount of "information" available on this topic.
Unless you read it in a "legitimate" news source (i.e. CNN, Wall Street Journal, etc.) you should consider it random speculation at best.

And to the best of my knowledge, B&N is still the primary shareholder of Gamestop.

No, B&N spun off GS into a seperate entity many months ago. Since they were the same company then, B&N shareholders received GS stock in the split. Therefor, B&N as a company no longer holds any shares of GameStop, hence, GS is it's own entity. And yes, lots of B&N shareholders will have GS stock now, but that doesn't make them owned by B&N.

In the mall - we have a gamestop and EBGames.

Down the street? Another gamestop.

--------------

At another mall - a gamestop and ebgames.

Where you find eb, you find gamestop.

Keeping two stores open in the same place doesn't make sense - although, the first situation proves me wrong.

I actually have the opposite problem, the gamestops and ebs are very localized. There are groups of EBs in one area within a couple miles of each other, and then another area has a group of gamestops within a couple miles of each other.

Cause it's the most perfect thing ever. You are going to make money so why not alternate between awesome sales. For example

xbox 360 only 279.99 at EB while still $299.99 at Gamestop.
Then gamestop next week could have something better like all 360 games for 39.99 they would make so much money. Because no matter what they are not losing money to competition when their is no other national comp.

I use this analogy you list something on ebay and then you able to bid on it. to raise the price of it.
