I wish I had 8-10 hours a day to spend on gaming! I'll take all your old stuff off your hands! Adios from the gaming world!

Whenever I'm unhappy with gaming, I usually find that I'm just in the mood for a different kind of game. Of course, the OP could always just take a few weeks or months off and reevaluate the situation then. If gaming still isn't fun, he could always give it up for good later on, but making a decision today (without the benefit of some time away to think and reflect on the situation) wouldn't do him or his collection much justice.

That's like walking into a pyromaniacs convention dressed in oily rags. What did you expect?
:hot:

Do you really think that you "leaving" games is really topic-worthy? Thanks, but no thanks drama queen.
I think you're problem is the 8-10 hours a day thing...I mean that's a lot and it's probably why you don't enjoy it as much. Ask some game testers and reviewers and they'll usually tell you after they play games for awhile even they just get sick and tired of it and they get paid for it. If I were were you I'd take a little break from games, come back in a couple weeks (or wait for a game that will really appeal to you and only play like 1-3 hours tops each day. Liek others suggested grab another enjoyable hobby and use gaming as a side bar.
I'd have to agree with that completely. I've gone through phases where I feel burned out on gaming. The most recent one was over the summer, actually. Then school started up again, and I didn't have time for gaming anymore. This past week has been the first time in months I've been able to play even an hour of games a day, and the burnout is gone. Part of that might be the fact that I've got Zero Mission and a few other games to work through, but who knows? :D

Play casually... I follow games and read about them/ find out release dates constantly, but I only play about 2-4 hours a day.
Is it me or does this not seem "casual" to anyone else? I'm lucky to get 2-4 hours in a week... :D
Same with me.

Damn, I haven't played 8 hours in a day since the days of the N64. Now I'm lucky to play 8 hours in a week! Don't ditch gaming all together, just find other hobbies, a job, classes, and/or a girlfriend. Then you'll wish you had more time to game!

I am only able to get in a couple hours a week for gaming, i think that helps a lot with not getting burnt out. You should just give it a break for awhile.

Dude!

You game 8-10 hrs a day?! In the words of Jeffrey Leibowski: "Get a job, sir!"

^_^

Seriously, though...life is such a rich and varied tapestry...why not do what you love? If you don't love gaming, don't do it. If you don't have something to love, try something new. You won't like everything you try, but I guarantee you will find something to inspire you.
Honestly, I play less than 5 hours of videogames a week. I usually just watch TV in my free time, because to me games aren't relaxing, they're engaging. Here's the problem. My time breaks down to either working, relaxing and watching tv, or excersizing by playing DDR. Sitdown gaming doesn't have much of a place in my schedule, but that doesn't mean I don't love it. I love keeping up with the gaming news, and I look forward to a time when I'll be motivated enough to play through my stack.
That's nuts. I'm the same exact way. I love games. I buy em, but I hardly play them. I'm more into movies. Every year I go through the stage of selling off some of my collection. Right now I have a front loading neo geo and a Neo Geo CDZ for sale if anyone is intersted. My thoughts are that once you are a gamer you'll never quit 100%.

the points you make are somewhat valid, however..

We're cheapasses, we know the way around high prices! Patience! all price drops come in time, no matter the game.. (okay steel battalion and certain rarirites aside) Besides, if you say you don't have time, then you only buy the few BEST games, thus, less expense. Gaming doesn't have to be that expensive and with patience you can see which games are actually great and which are just hype. Also, playing less than 3 hours a day helps with longevity and value in games.

Good idea, I support you all the way ... I wish I had the strength to give up gaming. I'm sure I could have bought a new car by now easily with the amount of money I have spent. Also, the time I have spent on gaming would have probably been better spent doing something more productive.

I currently play as much as i can right now, which is around 10 hours a week. With a baby on the way here in about 8 months im not going to have much time for anything else after my child is born, at least for about 16 years or so anyway.

You may find that while you're awake at 3:30 in the morning after a nighttime crying fest, that it's a perfect time to catch up on that game you never finished. Then, by the time he's five, he'll be beating you at Super Smash Brothers...

I've had a few times when gaming left me, some times for years at a time. Having a kid brought me back to the gaming world after an 8 year hiatus. But, in the last year I've also become frustrated with the lack of originality and monotony in most games released today. I hope the next generation has some true suprises in store for us.
If all of those things are true then you definitely should give up gaming.
Agreed. If they're no longer fun, why keep at it?

I agree. You are wasting too much time playing games, especially if your not enjoying yourself, instead of doing other things.

Why don't you write?
 Well yes I do but I can't and don't write 8-10 hours a day which is about how much I game on average.
hey, just an advice, doesn't matter what you're doing, but if it is 8 - 10 hours a day, you will be bored of it, unless you get a financial compensation, but then that's called work, hehe.

also, playing games 8 to 10 hours a day means most likely that you're just locking yourself up at home. I think you're the one who just got out of a relationship a few months ago right? If that's the case then that should explain the extremeness in your situation.

anyway, cheer up man! life has a lot to offer :)

Well, in the begining the baby takes a lot of naps during the day, so there's some gaming time to fit in. We were lucky. After about 3 months I think it was, our daughter started sleeping through the night. Now she's 19 months and she sleeps from around 830 to 6 or 7 in the morning. I'm starting her early on games :) She likes to hold the ps2 controller and point it at the tv screen and starts to push buttons to see what happens. She's figured out that the start button brings up the pause menu on most games, and she'll stand there and pause and unpause a game, and that seems to entertain her. :)

I gave up gaming for pretty much 3 years, only playing games when I had 3 friends around for the most part. But then I decided, for no particular reason, to play Chrono Cross, something I had left on my to-do list for years. That game reminded me how much I loved playing games, I followed it up with Final Fantasy II (off of Origins) and then shortly thereafter I got a GC. From there Gladius became my obsession, and then I found CAG and the flood gates were re-opened.

It might be what you're playing. Try changing it up. I think the older Mario Bros. games can do just that.

Got frustrated the other day playing Donkey Kong 64 and popped in SM World 2: Yoshi's Island. It definitely changed the setting...
The reasons are that the prices are crazy (minus a deal here or there). The games in general suck (except for a gem here or there). Last and well first, games just dont give me joy, they really arent fun to play, I get more anger out of playing then I do entertainment. Its just not worth it anymore....now I need a new hobby I guess. :?
You could try reading the bible. Nothing gives you as much joy as learning about the Lord

This is why I thought you were mad... sorry if I misinterpreted.

I guess 2-4 hours a day is more than casual, but some days I don't even play anything with work/school/music, so I guess the true average would be 1-2 hours.

I think cutting your gaming hours at least in half will spark a lot more interest in playing.
