Logitech Z-5500 -- any reason not to use for home theatre?

The only thing I can think of is lack of inputs, but I can just use optical out from my TV and have all the inputs in my TV so I don't think that's a big deal. Any reason why all reviews specify these to be PC speakers? They all say "The best multimedia PC speakers" or whatever.

I just sold my Onkyo receiver & two floorstanding speakers (2.0) system for $200... seems like I could upgrade to this for $30. Any other sound system recommendations for this price range?

Z-5500's would be a good choice due to their cheap price point, especially if you have a smaller room. They were designed to be used in a near-field configuration so they should generally perform better that way, but as a home theater set up they should still work fine. You probably won't find anything as good as them near their price point.

And yeah they don't have a whole lot of inputs if that is important to you. They do have a coaxial and optical, though. Also, the sub woofer doubles as the receiver so you can save a little space.

I have seen them going for much less than $250 before, too. Dell.com has had sales where they go for close to $150.

I use them for my home theater and I absolutely love them. I use it for my 360, Ps3 and my PC. They're fantastic for games and movies, I highly recommend them.

Thanks Dr. Foo -- since I'm not in any rush I think I'll wait a bit for a good sale (or eBay cashback to return). I'd probably have buyers remorse if I got em now at $230 and then read about them going for $150.

How are they connected (do you have to use an external switch)?


Edit: Man.. after shipping & tax it'd be around $325 from Amazon. Definitely gonna wait for a better deal.

You should check Dell.com from time to time. I got my Z-5500 for $219 + tax + free shipping about a year ago. The cheapest I've seen them on Dell is $199, though.
